DTW is used to finding acoustic similarities in the same speech sequence or between sequences or both. Its use is not limited to speech signals but it is also a key step in image processing as well. Despite being one of the most important and effective algorithms, DTW is computationally very intense. Processing of one hour of speech using DTW takes a few hours on a single processor, limiting its applicability to desktop and server platforms. Even on advanced platforms, DTW is used only in an offline manner and not in real time. Further modifications for improving performance in DTW make the algorithm slower. In this paper, we aim at extracting maximum thread-level parallelism from the process so as to accelerate its execution using clusters, multicore and multi-processor servers. Since the existing parallelism in this process in highly limited, we restructure the entire algorithm to extract maximum parallelism without altering the functional behavior of the algorithm. We implement the algorithm on a cluster of Intel Xeon processors running at 2.93GHz. We compare the results on a multi processor and multicore level to analyze the benefits of both versions. Our results show that it is possible to implement such a compute intense algorithm in real time which is a big boost considering that these algorithms are always done in an offline manner.","PeriodicalId":285986,"journal":{"name":"2011 2nd International Conference on Computer and Communication Technology (ICCCT-2011)","volume":"44 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-11-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116432841","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this paper, a fuzzy logic controlled, three-phase shunt active filter to improve power quality by compensating reactive power and current harmonics required by a nonlinear load is presented. PI regulator is replaced by fuzzy logic controller to improve the dynamic performance of shunt active filter under varying load conditions. The advantage of fuzzy control is that it is based on defined linguistic rules and does not require any mathematical model of the system unlike the other traditional controller. The compensation process is based on source current sensing only, an approach different from conventional methods. The performance of fuzzy logic controller is compared with PI controller under dynamic load conditions. Simulated studies show that fuzzy controller is found suitable for steady state and transient conditions of load.","PeriodicalId":285986,"journal":{"name":"2011 2nd International Conference on Computer and Communication Technology (ICCCT-2011)","volume":"66 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-11-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128642436","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

To assist the users to navigate in the result list, ranking methods are applied on the search results. Most of the ranking algorithms proposed in the literature are either link or content oriented, which do not consider user usage trends. In this paper, a page ranking mechanism called Page Ranking based on Visits of Links(VOL) is being devised for search engines, which works on the basic ranking algorithm of Google i.e. PageRank and takes number of visits of inbound links of Web pages into account. This concept is very useful to display most valuable pages on the top of the result list on the basis of user browsing behavior, which reduces the search space to a large scale. The paper also presents a method to find link-visit counts of Web pages and a comparison between VOL with the PageRank algorithm.","PeriodicalId":285986,"journal":{"name":"2011 2nd International Conference on Computer and Communication Technology (ICCCT-2011)","volume":"42 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-11-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129777824","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

I t was developed for an in-house designed force-torque sensor (FTS), which consists of a metal-frame structure, having three to six strain gauges (pairs) mounted in a certain geometrical configuration. The geometry of the FTS is such that certain linear combinations of instantaneous signals from all the strain gauges can be used to compute the force and torque applied to it. This basically requires multiplication of all the strain gauges' outputs with a special matrix, called a Jacobian. Now, the straight forward approach of using an A/D chip to acquire signals from the gauges and subsequent computation using a DSP has certain shortcomings. Firstly, the applied force on the FTS may change abruptly even before the sequential polling of all the six gauges are completed-resulting in wrong force computation. Secondly, the processor boards, complete with suitable A/D, D/A ports and memory are expensive and need dust free housing. In humid, noisy and dusty field situations, these components may easily get damaged. As an alternative, we have developed a circuit that not only reads all the strain gauges online in parallel, but also computes the force and torque components instantaneously, that too at a tiny fraction of the cost of a computer.","PeriodicalId":285986,"journal":{"name":"2011 2nd International Conference on Computer and Communication Technology (ICCCT-2011)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-11-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130007881","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Renewable sources of energy being the most suitable method to achieve the same, have taken the consideration to architect a house with the implementation of latest and current inventions. In this paper, the house is embedded with suitable sensors along with the equipments for the generation of power from solar and hydro modules that have been proposed to be used with maximum efficiency. Solar energy has been devised from the very latest form of solar panels that is solar paint. The architect has been so designed to achieve the maximum solar energy on painting the steel sheets on the two walls of the house which can align them according to the angle of maximum solar intensity. Hydro energy has been taken as the back-up plan for the adverse climatic conditions in which the roof is clad with micro channels which are in a glass disc. The principle of generation of electricity through these channels is charge induction by polar water molecules. The house is so programmed that it can switch between various energy alternatives available according to the present climatic conditions by the use of a decision making device. Along with this, spare power is saved and then used during unavailability of power from conventional sources.","PeriodicalId":285986,"journal":{"name":"2011 2nd International Conference on Computer and Communication Technology (ICCCT-2011)","volume":"62 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-11-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121649429","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The increasing usage of interactive internet applications in the areas of stock trades, medicine, weather forecasting, banks, businesses, education, defense, research etc. has induced a rise in risks and possibilities of misuse of computer networks. Over the last decade, malicious software or malware in the form of viruses, worms, Trojan horses, Botnets has risen to become a primary source of most of the threats used for scanning, distributed denial-of-service (DDoS) activities and direct attacks, taking place across the Internet. A number of solutions have been proposed in literature to defend against such threats from malware. Majority of these solutions uses the concept of inbound traffic approach for detection. The main goal of this paper is to work out a pragmatic solution to protect the network from the malware by exploring the feasibility of the concept of analysis of outbound traffic i.e Extrusion traffic only instead of intrusion traffic. Four different types of malware have been analyzed to check the validity of the proposed approach.","PeriodicalId":285986,"journal":{"name":"2011 2nd International Conference on Computer and Communication Technology (ICCCT-2011)","volume":"41 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-11-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115828056","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
