In such websites, users can propose their content to the community. Since the data is user generated, a huge volume of content is published every day on a successful platform. An important problem arising in such websites is that users have to filter all the published content to find something interesting. This filtering can be assisted by the website, thanks to a recommendation mechanism. An even more important problem is that the context is adversarial: some malicious users try to trick the system in order to either publish their own content or make sure that specific content is not published. Therefore, users might not find the content they are interested in either because it is diluted in an ocean of spam or because it was maliciously blocked from publication. In this paper, we present Rocovo (RObust COmmunal VOting), a two phases mechanism that allows for the automatic management of the publication process in a robust and communal manner.","PeriodicalId":285655,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 29th Annual ACM Symposium on Applied Computing","volume":"79 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-03-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124527041","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The ability to provide on-demand IT-related resources either through the internet (public clouds) or private networks (private clouds) based on customer's needs, and the scalability they have to deliver resources horizontally, can be considered the main reasons for such popularity and have led such a CC platforms to a scenario involving the hosting of other types of systems, such as those that control large volume of data, like database management systems (DBMS).","PeriodicalId":285655,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 29th Annual ACM Symposium on Applied Computing","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-03-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125768257","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In real world applications, data streams have categorical features, and changes induced in the data distribution of these categorical features have not been considered extensively so far. Previous work on change detection focused on detecting changes in the accuracy of the learners, but without considering changes in the data distribution. To cope with these issues, we propose a new unsupervised change detection method, called CDCStream (Change Detection in Categorical Data Streams), well suited for categorical data streams. The proposed method is able to detect changes in a batch incremental scenario. It is based on the two following characteristics: (i) a summarization strategy is proposed to compress the actual batch by extracting a descriptive summary and (ii) a new segmentation algorithm is proposed to highlight changes and issue warnings for a data stream. To evaluate our proposal we employ it in a learning task over real world data and we compare its results with state of the art methods. We also report qualitative evaluation in order to show the behavior of CDCStream.","PeriodicalId":285655,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 29th Annual ACM Symposium on Applied Computing","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-03-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125860551","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It aims at constructing an effective interaction test suites, so as to identify the faults that are caused by interactions among parameters. After interaction test suites are generated by CIT, the execution order of test cases in the test suite becomes critical due to limited testing resources. To determine test case order, the prioritization of interaction test suites has been employed. As we know, random prioritization (RP) of test cases has been considered as simple but ineffective. Existing research unveils that adaptive random prioritization (ARP) of test cases is an alternative and promising candidate that may replace RP. However, previous ARP techniques may not be used to prioritize interaction test suites due to the lack of source-code-related information in interaction test suite, such as statement coverage, function coverage, or branch coverage. In this paper, we not only propose the ARP strategy in order to prioritize interaction test suites by using interaction coverage information, without the source-code-related information, but also unify the RP strategy and traditional interaction-coverage based prioritization strategy (ICBP). Additionally, simulation studies indicate that the ARP strategy performs better than the RP strategy, test-case-generation prioritization, and reverse test-case-generation prioritization, and can also be more time-saving than ICBP while greatly maintaining similar, or even better, effectiveness.","PeriodicalId":285655,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 29th Annual ACM Symposium on Applied Computing","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-03-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128705247","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

We employ statistic techniques to help mining patterns and trends from the analyzed data set. We identified a prevalence of purely theoretical studies in the surveyed period, where no more than 31% are experimental research. Also, the number of research works in \"Reliability Assessment\" has clearly increased since 2002, and especially during the last three years. On the other hand, works in \"Reliability Modeling\" and \"Fault Analysis\" have been gradually reduced during the last decade.","PeriodicalId":285655,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 29th Annual ACM Symposium on Applied Computing","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-03-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129310184","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Learning the successful experiences from existing MSN applications is valuable to both industry and academy. The paper aims at identifying the success factors of Instagram, a well-known MSN application. By performing a historical case study, rapid development and reaction, continuous focus on system scalability on demand, and creating a good external environment are regarded as the three important success factors. To achieve those success factors, 1) using existing mature Open Source Software (OSS) extensively and consulting resident experts at websites when necessary are the secrets to develop and react to new requirements rapidly; 2) monitoring the status of the system by tools and focusing on scalability in both architecture design and detail optimization are vital to guarantee the system scalable on demand; and 3) creating appropriate social networks for different type of stakeholders using right popular social media tools is important to create a good external environment effectively. Based on these insights, the development methodology of Instagram has been extracted, that can be used to guide the MSN application development. At the end, the validation, reliability and generalizability of the information gathered from the case study are discussed thoroughly.","PeriodicalId":285655,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 29th Annual ACM Symposium on Applied Computing","volume":"325 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-03-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129657705","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this paper, we target at user recognition based on sensor data of remote control, in which activity recognition determines a user's action that is in favor of collecting one's individual sensor data to identify different users. This new problem faces two challenges: first, sensor data is sensitive and constantly changing which is difficult to obtain meaningful features; second, streaming sensor data for online learning is usually imbalanced on which traditional classifiers are not well performed. To address these challenges, we introduce an efficient activity recognition algorithm by exploring the physical appearance of sensor data, and then an online incremental classifier to deal with imbalanced data streams by adaptively generating training data. Extensive online and offline experiments demonstrate that our proposed method outperforms state-of-the-art algorithms in terms of accuracy.","PeriodicalId":285655,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 29th Annual ACM Symposium on Applied Computing","volume":"64 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-03-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129738840","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Especially for severe emergency patients, the potential of such systems to reduce mortality is directly related to the response time, e.g., the time a patient has to wait for an ambulance. An efficient coordination of the ambulance fleet is crucial for reducing the response times of a service. And this requires complete, real-time information about the current state of the ambulance fleet. Such information is usually transmitted by the ambulance crew members. However, due to the often stressful work of those professionals, the information is frequently not sent in a timely manner. In this paper we present an approach that addresses this problem. We use a Complex Event Processing architecture to automatically identify and transmit incidents and changes in the operational states of ambulances. As a result, the availability of information in the control centre and, thus, the effectiveness of the service is improved. The system is inspired by the operational model of SUMMA112, the Emergency Medical Coordination Centre of the Autonomous Region of Madrid in Spain.","PeriodicalId":285655,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 29th Annual ACM Symposium on Applied Computing","volume":"28 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-03-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127098015","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Traditional studies on question recommendation on Q&A website usually presume that answerers are always instantly available for askers. They neglect the importance of timely response of answerers to question askers. Such negligence of time-efficiency leads to lower quality of recommender systems, namely the question starvation problem. In this paper, we focus on improving time-efficiency of recommendations on a large scale online Q&A website in order to boost the answer ratio of new posted questions. To achieve this goal, we design an answerer recommender system (ARS) that is capable of instantly routing a new question the potential answerers with the right expertise. We test our system on a real-world large-scale Q&A website. Experimental results demonstrate that compared with a previously used baseline system, in our system both the time-efficiency and the number of answers given to a question are dramatically improved. In addition, we find that timely response to questions can stimulate interactions between question askers and answerers. Such interaction can boost the answer acceptance ratio by askers since it encourages answerers to improve their answers actively and continuously.","PeriodicalId":285655,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 29th Annual ACM Symposium on Applied Computing","volume":"173 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-03-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131960918","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
