A hollow light guide with a diffusive reflection cavity (DRC) associated with edge-light LED light sources has been proposed to resolve the issues of weight, uniformity and efficiency simultaneously. The experiment shows an overall efficiency of 84.35%, uniformity of 90.5%, at the height of 35cm, the illumination is 1396 lux that only needed 3 watts of total LED driving power. Such grating structure is fabricated during a simple reactive-ion etch process induced by lag-effect. The sensing probe was fabricated by splicing two single mode core- offset fiber attenuators sandwiched a tapered single mode fiber. It is found that the straight probe was not sensitive enough for RI measurement. After bending it, the sensitivity was improved markedly, and the maximum RI sensitivity of 196.99 nm/RIU was achieved.
