From a user’s perspective, the speed of innovation in the Internet age becomes particularly visible when looking at ever-changing hardware devices that enable instant access to information, knowledge, and entertainment, or when navigating the rapidly evolving social media space where new platforms and powerful services emerge periodically, like Instagram, Pinterest, and Quora. Many of today’s trends and developments in the ICT space are powered by a less visible and arguably more evolutionary innovation at the lower layers of the ICT infrastructure: cloud computing. It describes a multi-faceted technological phenomenon in which important aspects of computing (such as information processing, communication, networking, data acquisition, storage, and analysis) move from local systems to more efficient, outsourced systems where third parties provide aggregated computational resources and services on an as-needed basis from remote locations. Cloud computing is arguably responsible, at least in part, for the speed at which new social platforms are being developed and brought to market. This paper starts with a brief introduction to and framing of cloud computing as both a technological innovation and innovation-enabling technology – in short: cloud innovation. It then focuses on one particular aspect of the emerging cloud computing ecosystem by describing and discussing the legal and regulatory responses to cloud technology. It ends with general observations regarding the design of interfaces between cloud innovation as an example of an innovative and innovation-enabling technology and the legal and regulatory system. The paper builds upon and aims to synthesize previous contributions by the author and his collaborators on cloud law and policy issues on the one hand and pattern recognition in ICT regulation on the other hand. Against this backdrop, the paper seeks not only to distill and share insights about the interplay between cloud computing technology and the legal and regulatory system, but also contribute to a broader understanding of and emerging analytical framework for technology regulation in digitally networked environments.

This paper aims at examining the compatibility and flexibility of manufacturing firms’ AIS at Zanjan Province. Research method is of descriptive - survey type and data collecting tool is questionnaire. Manufacturing experts comprise the statistical population of the study. One-sample T-test is used to test the hypotheses and Kruskal-Wallis Test is applied to examine the uniformity of the views along firms of different sizes. To test the significance of the research variables, Friedman Test is applied. The results suggest that there is compatibility and inflexibility of AISs in response to future changes of the firms.

Substantively, however, they are catalysts for performance enhancement and consequently implicate the triggering of one element by another, namely that of improvement by stimulation. Any indicator deficient of any or both of these constituents ought not to qualify for a KPI status given the critical expectations associated with it being labelled as ‘key’. Once this litmus test has been successfully superseded, the question that beckons revolves around the criteria applicable in the KPIs selection process. This provokes affinity considerations in that the selected KPIs must be perfectly and positively correlated with the corporate objectives, that is, with the firm’s strategy.

Notwithstanding the impact of these emerging phenomena, performance measurement systems’ critical nemesis is the shaping and solidification of ‘involvement’ by the widest audience possible within the enterprise. Employee involvement creates a positive culture as well as a ‘buy-in’ effect (Sachs, I, 2011). This however requires further massaging mostly in the form of across-the-board motivation in order to maintain a healthy momentum.

Traditional content creators, such as newspapers, are witnessing their geographical monopolies dissolving into the globally competitive Internet and some of their most important sources of revenue, such as classified ads, migrating to specialized online marketplaces like eBay and Craigslist. User-generated content, such as blogs and online reviews, has increased the supply of content that often competes head-on for readers' attention with professionally produced content.\u0000 As if the previous changes were not enough, an equally disruptive transformation is currently underway in these industries. The overwhelming amount of content available online has increased the importance of curation and aggregation, that is, of interfaces and services that help readers filter and make sense of the subset of content that is important to them. Historically such functions used to be the realm of professional editors: editors not only commissioned the production of content but also decided what content would be included in a newspaper or magazine issue and how it would be organized.\u0000 Web technologies allow this important function to be unbundled from content production. Specifically, the web's ability to place hyperlinks across content has enabled new types of players, commonly referred to as content aggregators or web portals, to successfully enter the professional content ecosystems, attracting traffic and revenue by hosting collections of links to the content of others. Aggregators produce little or no original content; they usually provide titles and short summaries of the articles they link to (Figure 1). Well known aggregators include Google News, the Drudge Report and the Huffington Post. Table 1 provides a more extensive list of examples.\u0000 Facing severe financial pressures, some content creators have turned against content aggregators, accusing them of "stealing" their revenues by free riding on their content. Other market actors point out that in today's "link economy", the links bring valuable traffic to the target nodes. Therefore content creators should be happy that aggregators exist and direct consumers to their sites. Key aggregator executives, such as Google's Eric Schmidt, assert that it is to their interest to see content creators thrive, since the value of links (and aggregators) is directly related to the quality of content that these point to.\u0000 A central aspect of the debate focuses on the complex economic implications of the process of placing (for the most part) free hyperlinks across content nodes. The main argument in favor of aggregators is that, if links are chosen well, then they point to good quality content; as a result, they reduce the search costs of the consumers, which may lead to an aggregate increase in content consumption and to more traffic for higher quality sites. The main argument against aggregators is that some consumers s

The focus remained on the real industrial challenge of rapid constraint evaluation for designing and/or reconfiguration of Powertrain assembly lines to cater for a new/changed product. A methodology is developed to facilitate Ford Company to quickly model and re-configure new/changed assembly line for building new/changed engine. This is made possible with the help of modular approach and developing relationships among products, processes and resources. The model accounts for the problem of information leakage, i.e., the diffusion of information about the idea before and after the idea is implemented. We analyze the effects of information leakage on the distribution of rents within firms and the firms stability to the introduction of innovation. In the model, the distribution ofrents in a firm reflects the distribution of information about the idea. We show how the balance of power between the innovators and their collaborators depends on market conditions and firms size. The model also provides a formal link between the organization of firms and their stability:the model predicts that, a larger firm will tend to be less stable to the introduction of innovation.

Up until now, OSS adoption has been irregular, although it seems to be breaking the dominance of existing players in some market segments. In this paper, we contend that due to the particularities of its development process, traditional ways of explaining IT adoption -rational decision making, technology diffusion models, and the psychology of the decision maker- are insufficient to explain the case of OSS diffusion. We believe that the existence of a strong and diffused development community leads to a new role of the user community, as both are intertwined. In addition, new concerns for social corporate responsibility and welfare create a new context, in which "user gangs" may exert some degrees of pressure on the IT decision maker. By analyzing some significant cases we depict under what conditions significant OSS adoption may unfold, showing that in two of the cases studied user gangs play a significant role. The resulting preliminary framework will inform future work, in which we aim at validating the emerging insights gained in this research.
