Patients and Methods : We present 5 cases with the most common clinical presentations of intraoral swelling and loose teeth. The lesions were located at the maxilla and mandible . One patient had an ulcerative lesion at the temporal region of the scalp. The radiologic view showed lytic lesions at the scalp and maxilla-mandibular area. All of the patients had an incisional biopsy with the diagnosis of \"Langerhans cell Histiocytosis\". Results : The choice of treatment was curettage in all patients and radiotherapy was combinated in one patient. Postoperative follow-up of the patients showed no recurrence Conclusion : Intraoral lesions located at the maxilla and mandible associated with the loose teeth should be biopsied for the diagnosis of eosinophilic granuloma.","PeriodicalId":284795,"journal":{"name":"The Internet Journal of Plastic Surgery","volume":"93 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2006-12-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125926428","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

These defects can be reconstructed with autologous or synthetic materials. Biomaterials are widely used with success in the reconstruction of the craniofacial skeleton, due to accompanying problems of autogenous bone grafts like the potential donor site morbidity, time consumption, need for experience and possibility of graft resorption in the postoperative period. In this report, we present our experience and long term results in reconstruction of maxillofacial segmental bone defects with bioactive glass (NovaBone, Porex Surgical, Newman, Ga.) in six patients in Adnan Menderes University Hospital, Turkey. The patients were followed for minimum 12 months post-operatively and the process of ossification was checked at 6-month intervals by means of clinical, radiological methods. Radiological examinations demonstrated conversion of the majority of the reconstructed defect to bone density within 6 months, new bone was palpable in first year of the operation. Only one patient was re-operated since her new bone was disrupted secondary to the trauma after first operation. In conclusion, bioactive glass is very suitable material fort the reconstruction of the bone defects in face. To the best of our knowledge the defect in the case with mandibular cyst presented in this report is the largest one which reconstructed with only bioactive glass in the literature.","PeriodicalId":284795,"journal":{"name":"The Internet Journal of Plastic Surgery","volume":"34 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2006-12-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129608962","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A 44-year-old male complained of a hard mass in the anterior fibers of the deltoid muscle, where the lesion was isointense to skeletal muscle on T1-weighted and hyperintense to fat on T2*-weighted MR images. This lesion, histologically and immunohistochemically confirmed as a nodular fasciitis of intramuscular type by an incisional biopsy, was excised in a simple procedure three months later. We hypothesized that repeated injections for bicipital tenosynovitis had triggered the occurrence of nodular fasciitis in this case.","PeriodicalId":284795,"journal":{"name":"The Internet Journal of Plastic Surgery","volume":"19 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2006-12-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130587521","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Twenty-three patients, 8-79 years old presenting with venous congestion of revascularized or replanted fingers, free or local flaps were treated by leech therapy. Of the 15 fingers, 10 fingers were saved (4 out of 9 replanted fingers and 6 out of 6 revascularized fingers), while 17 out of 18 flaps were salvaged (3 out of 4 free flaps and all 14 island and random flaps). Fifteen patients received 1-13 units of packed blood cells (average 2.9). The patients with revascularized or replanted fingers were treated in average of 2.5 days and each finger was treated with an average of 5.7 leeches. The 15 patients with flaps were treated in average of 3.4 days and each flap was treated with an average of 9.2 leeches.","PeriodicalId":284795,"journal":{"name":"The Internet Journal of Plastic Surgery","volume":"614 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2006-12-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131473936","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, if these lesions continue to progress, the potential for invasion of deeper tissues with incomplete excision, as well as locally advanced, recurrent, or metastatic disease, exists. Two cases of cutaneous malignancy, located in the temporal region, with retrobulbar extension are presented: one case of basal cell carcinoma and one case of squamous cell carcinoma. A high index of suspicion is necessary when addressing these locally aggressive, potentially life-threatening lesions.","PeriodicalId":284795,"journal":{"name":"The Internet Journal of Plastic Surgery","volume":"35 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2006-12-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122998470","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
