Assistive technologies in education, e.g. games, allow the creation of new effective alternatives for helping the learning. The main objective of this work is to evaluate the potential of an educational memory game as an assistive technology for students with intellectual disability. It was developed a game composed by a computer and a wood box in trapezoidal shape with four pushbuttons with different colors. It is presented to the volunteer, a sequence of colored images that can be yellow, blue, green or red. After the presentation, the participant should select the pushbutton with the corresponding color to the sequence presented, and the selection is presented on the screen. If the player selects correctly, it will be showed a motivational message. If the sequence is wrong, it will be showed an activity to be done by the participants. It has been done a preliminary test, to evaluate the performance of intellectually disabled students and it was possible to observe a reduction of errors along the sessions. Thus, the proposed memory game can be used as a potential assistive technology in education of intellectually disabled students.","PeriodicalId":284183,"journal":{"name":"2017 IEEE Canada International Humanitarian Technology Conference (IHTC)","volume":"12 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-07-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132993674","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this project, we have utilized a two lead ECG in order to improve the ECG signal accuracy applying artificial neural network (ANN). In order to extract features, current methods commonly rely on advanced signal processing of the main lead II (MLII). Although MLII is obtained easily, it does not include a complete description of the electrical activity of the heart. Therefore, in order have a 2D view of the electrical activity of the heart we have used a precordial lead, V1, from the Standard 12-lead ECG system. The designed method enables the user to process the inputs from any ECG measuring device that are commercially available. In this study input from Fitbit was used to distinguish normal signal from the abnormal signal.","PeriodicalId":284183,"journal":{"name":"2017 IEEE Canada International Humanitarian Technology Conference (IHTC)","volume":"5 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-07-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134055875","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Polysomnography is the dominant tool currently being used to detect these movements. However, patient inconvenience and high costs associated with polysomnography has probed the need for an alternative screening tool to be developed. In the current research, a more cost-effective screening method specialized to detect these sleep-related movements is explored. In particular, the possibility of using more easily acquirable signals like electrocardiography in order to classify Periodic Limb Movements is investigated. Signal processing tools and the use of machine learning algorithms for the classification of the sleep-related movements is proposed.","PeriodicalId":284183,"journal":{"name":"2017 IEEE Canada International Humanitarian Technology Conference (IHTC)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-07-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129911353","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Potentially huge number of these sensors will soon be deployed to perform simple to complex tasks such as automatically controlling heat and light in smart homes to guiding autonomous vehicles and missiles. A big challenge in WSN is providing energy. Battery management and maintenance of these sensors can be a prohibitively expensive exercise because of their abundance. Sensors' performance will deteriorate with the remaining energy level and dead sensor nodes will affect the performance of an entire network, especially in multi-hop networks. Improper battery disposal will also cause environmental pollution and health hazardous in the long run. The energy issue can be alleviated by energy harvesting. The ambience has energy in the forms of light, heat, mechanical vibrations and electromagnetic radiations. This energy has to be collected with appropriate transducers, stored reliably and used for wireless data transmission which is typically happens as bursts. The sporadic and unreliable nature of the energy harvesting process as well as characteristics of electronic elements has to be appropriately modeled to design viable energy harvesting WSN.","PeriodicalId":284183,"journal":{"name":"2017 IEEE Canada International Humanitarian Technology Conference (IHTC)","volume":"88 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-07-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133222439","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
