Singh, Mohit Kumar","doi":"10.1177/2319510X18817450","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.1177/2319510X18817450","url":null,"abstract":"In this study, we examine the trends of the initial public offering (IPO) market, a relationship between the composition of underwriters and size of firms and determinants of underpricing in small, medium and large firms. The sample data period is from November 2003 to March 2018. We have found that large firms have been deploying book-running lead managers (BRLMs) twice as much as in medium and small firms. Similarly, the total number of underwriters in IPOs of large firms are found to be more than small and medium size IPOs. However, uses of syndicate services do not seem to have much difference among all categories of the firms. The IPOs are growing in terms of number of IPOs, size of IPOs (fund raised) and the average size of IPOs. Offer subscription has been found to be a common determinant to explain underpricing across the categories. It can be concluded that advertisement seems to reduce information asymmetry in a large market but does the opposite in a medium-sized market. Age of public firms can reduce the information asymmetry, but statistical shreds of evidence have been found only in case of large-sized firms. The study is based on primary data collected through a structured questionnaire and analysed by using multinomial logistic regression. The results of the study exhibit that interconnections with government institutions, research institutions, customers and technical institutors are the most significant linkage variables boosting various types of innovations in SMEs. While workplace spirituality is an extrinsic factor which refers to a supportive working environment, grit is an internal factor which refers to passion and perseverance. The aim of this article is to examine the impact of workplace spirituality and grit on work engagement. Data were collected using standardised questionnaires from 275 full-time employees working in various government, private and public–private organisations in Delhi-NCR, India. Correlational analysis showed a positive correlation between components of workplace spirituality (inner life, meaningful work and community) and components of work engagement (attention and absorption) and between components of grit (consistency of interest and perseverance) and components of work engagement (attention and absorption). Hierarchical multiple regression analysis showed that meaningful work, consistency of interest and perseverance significantly predicted work engagement after controlling for gender, age, tenure and educational qualification. This implies that organisations should hire employees with high grit and provide them with meaningful work to enhance their engagement. Notwithstanding this inspired recognition, analytical and empirical studies on SMEs’ incremental innovation practices are still measly in emerging economies. Drawing from the dynamic capabilities theory, the present study sought to examine SMEs’ incremental innovation practices in Accra, Ghana. The study followed a multiple-case qualitative methodology using a semi-structured interview and a simple random sampling method to select 17 SMEs for the study while an inductive approach was used to analyse the transcribed data from the informants. The findings disclosed that the incremental innovation propensity and innovation types in the SMEs differ from small firms to medium firms and from manufacturing firms to service firms. It was further disclosed that the incremental innovation practices have improved the performance of the SMEs in terms of increased customer satisfaction and loyalty, sales growth, competitiveness, and global market reach, while their paramount innovation management challenges were lack of financial resources, infrastructure, specialized personnel, and information on technology. It reflects a firms’ ability to meet day-to-day operating expenses and also acts as an indicator of a firm’s short-term financial health. So a firm has to plan the effective utilisation of its working capital in order to maintain equilibrium between liquidity and profitability of the business. Therefore, the present article tries to examine the impact of working capital management on profitability of the firms of Indian steel industry. The study has taken into consideration four independent variables, that is, Current ratio, Quick ratio, Debtors turnover ratio and Finished goods turnover ratio which act as the indicators of working capital use in the industry. Return on total assets represents the profitability of the industry and acts as a dependent variable to develop an empirical model in order to establish relationship between working capital management and profitability of the steel industry in India by using panel data regression. The period of study is 17 years, that is, 2000–2016. Therefore, this study intends to provide empirical evidence towards the link between the selected variables. The data were obtained from the participants using an online survey method from a total of 242 academic and administrative staff at public universities in the northern region of Malaysia. For ease of data collection, convenience sampling approach was adopted. The findings indicated that employee empowerment has a significant positive impact on employee motivation. Primary data have been collected from the active individual stock market participants from the four states of India, namely, Jharkhand, Bihar, Odisha and West Bengal. Findings of this study suggest that respondents have a similar perception for availability bias, representativeness and emotional contagion while the other four factors such as herding, informational cascades, anchoring and overconfidence show significant discrimination in investment decision-making between the two groups of investors. This complexity and its subsequent impact on work–life balance have necessitated organisations to thoughtfully consider the spiritual dimension of individuals at work, which has been neglected for years. The purpose of this study is to examine the interrelationships among workplace spirituality (WS), employee engagement and job involvement among Generation Y employees. Accordingly, a model is proposed which delineates the interactions among these constructs. Specifically, the mediating effect of employee engagement on the relationship between WS and job involvement is explored. The study uses two different forms of employee engagement, namely, job and organisational engagement. A questionnaire-based survey is adopted to test the aforementioned model, and data was collected from 353 professional consultants working in different sectors. The results of regression analyses support all the stated relationships, as well as provide evidence for the mediational effect of engagement. The findings of the study suggest the existence of significant relationships between spirituality and job and organisational engagement. Both forms of engagement partially mediate the relationship between WS and job involvement. The study illustrates that spirituality could be a significant predictor of employee engagement and job involvement among employees in the service sector.
