Methods: The present study is retrospective observational and aims to analyze the condition of thyroid surgery in the country, specifically in state hospitals in Tegucigalpa, its rate of complications and its relationship with associated factors before the procedure. Result: A total of 92 patients undergoing thyroid surgery were studied at the Hospital Escuela and Hospital General San Felipe by reviewing the clinical record. The preoperative status, comorbidities and the surgical procedure performed were recorded and were related to the main complications mentioned above. Conclusion: A global rate of complications related to laryngeal nerve injury of 15% and late hypocalcemia of 7% was found, which are higher than the incidences reported in international series, however these vary from 0% of recurrent laryngeal nerve injury in thyroidectomies subtotal up to 22% in radical dissections in patients with neo proliferative processes.","PeriodicalId":283483,"journal":{"name":"Surgical Medicine Open Access Journal","volume":"41 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-08-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124954062","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Especially, general surgeons are uniquely affected due to the broad range of procedures they perform, many of which are conducted routinely in the outpatient setting. This report aims to represent the clinical presentation and outcomes of elective surgical patients during the COVID-19 epidemic. We designed a retrospective study of elective surgeries from 13 March to 13 May 2020 in Bagcilar Training and Research Hospital, a pandemic hospital in this period. Results: 45 patients included in the study underwent different severity and morbidity operations with general anesthesia. The ratio of female to male was 23/22. The mean age was 55 years. Mean Body Mass Indexes (BMI) was 28,5kg/m2. There were 13 co-morbid patients. The severity of the operations ranges from anal fistulectomy to abdominoperineal resection. Need for ICU developed in 9 patients (20%). Complications developed in only one of the patients, resulting in mortality (2,2%). Conclusion: Surgeons as leaders need to make the best decisions for their patients while being sensitive to the broader implications. The important aim is to protect patients as well as the medical team from unnecessary infection and to keep the healthcare system study effectively. There is a need for continuous adaptation of recommendations and guidelines in order not to deprive patients of their operations, whether COVID-19 positive or not.","PeriodicalId":283483,"journal":{"name":"Surgical Medicine Open Access Journal","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-02-11","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132911668","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The EMH often presents as pseudotumors and may be confused with other benign or malignant tumors. The cause of EMH often is an underlying hematopoietic disorder, and it may be adequately treated by treating the underlying cause. This will avoid unnecessary surgical interventions. Hence, knowledge of this entity is of utmost importance, and careful history, clinical examination and necessary investigations must be carried out before deciding the course of therapy.","PeriodicalId":283483,"journal":{"name":"Surgical Medicine Open Access Journal","volume":"74 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-01-12","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122482509","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This method was previously successfully applied and verified by experiment. An exhaustive analysis of the corresponding streamlines is presented, proving the advantage of abruded turbulators. A well-known and very well-tested in practice method of vortex intensification of heat transfer is the application of periodic protrusions on the walls of the washed surfaces [1]. The study of the structure of the intensified flow is mainly carried out by experimental methods [1], while modern computational works on this topic are relatively few [2] and are only partially devoted directly to the structure of the intensified flow; some of the methods (for example, a certain part of works [2]) use only integral approaches to this problem. This work is directly devoted to the study of the flow structure in the pipe, For pipes with turbulators of a semicircular cross-section, the nature of the relationship between heat transfer and hydraulic resistance remains similar to the above-considered nature of the relationship for square flow turbulators, but the values (Nu/Nusm)/(  /  sm) for the former, as a rule, is definitely higher due to the much smaller influence of the systems of secondary and corner vortices, which occurs due to deformation and greater elongation of the main vortex, which is confirmed by the corresponding values for pipes with turbulators of a semicircular cross-section (Nu/ Nusm) / (  /  sm)=0.89 t/D","PeriodicalId":283483,"journal":{"name":"Surgical Medicine Open Access Journal","volume":"21 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-12-09","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131270952","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The case fatality differs substantially between countries along with the number of symptomatic patients, sequelae of the disease and those who require intensive lifecare support. Such a perceived difference can be attributed to macroecological dissimilarities like the general well-being of the population and a more extent, its demographic structure. The demographic characteristics, most notably the age structure and population density, has important implications in the spread of infectious diseases [2,3]. Like most of the infectious diseases we have known so far, COVID-19 is seen more severely in groups like the elderly and those with comorbidities [4,5]. Robustness of the health system and abundance of resources might have helped the western countries to report proportionately a greater number of cases. However huge proportion of elderly population in these countries might have contributed to higher reporting of severe illness and deaths in these countries [6].","PeriodicalId":283483,"journal":{"name":"Surgical Medicine Open Access Journal","volume":"482 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-12-09","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123986699","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
