Sixty-one eighth-grade students participated in the study, which involved oral reading and comprehension tests using second-year middle school English materials. Informal reading assessments were also conducted to evaluate the students' English word reading accuracy, automaticity, and prosody, and L2 oral reading fluency was determined from these measures. The results showed that only 30% of the students were capable of reading independently, while the remaining students encountered difficulties. A significant correlation was found between L2 oral reading fluency and L2 reading comprehension. The findings of this study provide valuable contributions to the field of Korean English education and hold implications for both L2 reading instruction and research.

In the present study, we test the validity of RI/EM in a sample of mainland Chinese secondary students (N = 434) in Yunnan province using a three-wave longitudinal research design. Structural equation modeling analyses found that T1 academic achievements affected T2 academic self-concepts positively within the same domain but negatively across domains. Meanwhile, paths from T2 academic self-concepts to T3 academic achievements were also positive within the same domain. However, the cross-domain effects of T2 academic self-concepts on T3 academic achievements were inconsistent. Specifically, T2 mathematics self-concept negatively affected T3 Chinese achievement, but T2 Chinese self-concept did not negatively affect T3 mathematics achievement. Overall, these findings support the RI/EM assumptions, providing further evidence for the cross-cultural generality of the RI/EM. Implications are outlined for theory and practice.

To do this, based on ‘Education 2030’ of OECD (Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development), five sub-elements were newly composed considering related prior studies that were comprehensively reviewed for each of the three sub-domains of Transformative Competency (creating new value, reconciling tensions and dilemmas, and taking responsibility). The preliminary Transformative Competency Scale for high school students with 3 scenarios for each sub-domain (total 9 scenarios) and 10 items for each scenario (total 90 items) was revised and supplemented through expert group review with 9 doctors for content validity and focus group interview (FGI) with 8 high school students for face validity. The test was conducted on 207 high school students in Busan using the developed scale, then the final scale was completed in consideration of the factor loadings, content validity, and construct validity by the confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) using the collected data (total 9 scenarios, 45 items). The results of the confirming factor analysis and reliability of the final scale were good.

Prior literature has operationalized two distinct types of language used in contexts: academic language and decontextualized language. Despite their similarities, academic language and decontextualized language have been studied in different strands of research. To bring together the discussion around language use in diverse contexts, this study investigated the commonalities between the two constructs by emphasizing the role of discourse knowledge. In doing this, the current study advanced the theoretical understanding of discourse knowledge by identifying its various aspects such as audience awareness (perspective taking), background knowledge, and genre awareness. Furthermore, pedagogical implications are made regarding how discourse knowledge should be explicitly taught to all learners of English, given its importance.

The changes in participants’ motivation were categorized into four groups: the upward, ‘V’ pattern, downward, and inverse ‘V’ pattern groups. Students’ retrospective essays on their (de)motivation process of learning English were analyzed based on the Grounded Theory. \u0000The upward and ‘V’ pattern groups went through gradual English learning motivation due to positive language attitudes and human factors, respectively, while the downward and inverse ‘V’ pattern groups experienced gradual or sometimes rapid demotivation due to the learning factors such as learning methods. It is noteworthy that the significant demotivating factors, learning factors, are found in all four groups. However, the overall motivation pattern (gradual increase or decrease) varies depending on how students sensitize or appraise the external learning environment. It suggests that learners who have experienced demotivation need a chance to re-experience positive English learning attitudes based on their willingness to learn English for remotivation. In addition, solutions to learning factors, demotivating factors found in all four groups, will be discussed.

In particular, this study examines the “lexiculture” of French proverbs related to 1, animals, 2, food, 3, objects that are frequently used by native French speakers in order to form useful educational materials for language and cultural education. To this end, this study first investigated a total of 90 French proverbs related to 1, animals, 2, food, 3, objects. \u0000Next, through a survey, a total of 69 French proverbs related to these three topics that are frequently used by native French speakers were selected. In this process, the following two standards for measuring the frequency of use were established: first, whether it is frequently used in daily conversations, and second, whether it is often used by people in their 20s to 50s who use standard language. Finally, the “lexiculture” of these 69 French proverbs was compared with the “lexiculture” of Korean proverbs, and related proverbs were cataloged according to frequency of use.

To this end, eight AI English teaching and learning platforms in wide use are chosen for an analysis. They are divided into three groups of contents service, teaching and learning support and AI tutoring service. The current study analyzes basic designs and modules of the platforms first. The main functions and characteristics of the platforms used in the platforms are also analyzed by aspects of the learning environment and the teaching/learning process. The current study analyzes each aspect qualitatively as well as occurrence counts of each designated criterion quantitatively. As a result of the analysis, it was found that a learning environment is enhanced by expanding English exposure time and experience and a self-directed learning can be created. An effective teaching and learning process can be implemented by supporting teachers' class design through various role changes.

As a result of cluster analysis, the teacher group was categorized into four groups (Upper, Middle, Inactive, and Lower). Next, as the results of the ANOVA(F-test) to analyze the characteristics of each group, ‘the lower group’ was the lowest mean score in the ‘teaching· learning’ variables, and ‘the inactive group’ was the lowest mean score in the ‘school organization’ variables. In addition, as the results of multinomial logistic regression analysis based on ‘the middle group' to explore the main variables that can predict each group, the 'teaching·learning' variables are shown as relatively better predictors for each group than the 'school organization' variables. Based on these research results, implications for improving school organizational culture, teacher management, and teacher training were discussed in the future.

Based on mentalization development theory and the mentalization-based treatment for adolescents and families by Fonagy and his colleagues, a program with four stages of understanding the mentalization attitude, practicing explicit mentalization, exploring mentalization inhibitory factors, and reinforcing effective mentalization was developed. 18 parents in G and P cities were recruited; the program was conducted on the experiment group and no treatment was given on the control group. According to analysis, the program had a significant effect on reducing parental non-mentalization and improving emotional regulation and relationships with adolescents, whereas there was no significant effect on certainty, interest and curiosity, which are sub-factors of mentalization. A supplementary analysis of the sessions and comments indicated that the program led parents to perceive their children as separate individuals from themselves. \u0000And through the process of sensitively recognizing and validating each other's emotional signals, the level of arousal can be appropriately adjusted, so that they can interact without being easily immersed in their own and children's emotions. It leads to a positive virtuous cycle of gaining empathy from children as well as restoring confidence in maintaining close relationships with children.

A total of 464 responses was analyzed. The results showed that perception on social disorder is significantly positively related to fear of school violence regardless of school grade. Social informal control is negatively related to fear of school violence for only high school students. Regarding the relation between community attachment and fear of school violence, different pattern appears for elementary and high school students. The study implies the necessity of adopting a different administrative approach on school violence prevention and invention with consideration on age or school grade.
