Tutak","doi":"10.2478/mape-2020-0006","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.2478/mape-2020-0006","url":null,"abstract":"Abstract Despite the ongoing changes in the energy and economic structure of the European Union countries, mineral and energy resources such as hard coal, brown coal, natural gas, copper ores, zinc ores and many other minerals continue to be extracted. Each year, the mining and extraction sector emits thousands of tons of harmful substances into the atmosphere, in the form of greenhouse and other air-polluting gases, as well as harmful dusts. These substances include, amongst others, carbon dioxide, methane, carbon monoxide, as well as PM2.5 and PM10. The European Union climate policy clearly recommends that the exploitation of mineral resources be carried out in full respect of the principles of their rational, economical and environmentally neutral acquisition, which is confirmed by the promoted strategy of sustainable development economy. Therefore, this means the necessity to undertake actions aimed at limiting the emission of greenhouse gases and air pollutants into the atmosphere. To assess the actions taken by the European Union countries to date with respect to limiting those emissions, a comparative analysis was carried out for the particular countries. This analysis encompassed the emission of harmful substances from the mining and quarrying sector by the European Union countries in the years 2008 and 2017. The purpose of the analysis was to show the diversity of those countries in terms of the emission of harmful gases and dusts, as well as to divide them into similar groups. Such a division paves the way for developing a common climate policy and exchanging experiences between the countries from the particular groups. The European Union countries were divided into similar groups using the k-means grouping method. Comparison was also made for the emissions of the substances under analysis for the particular countries over the research years. It was assumed that the length of a bar being buckled at any instant of buckling is the same as that of a straight bar, regardless of the size of axial displacement of one end of the bar. Based on energy equations, a formula was derived for the value of axial displacement of one bar end or buckling amplitude in the middle of bar length as a function of compressive force. In addition to what a graduate is to know in terms of the knowledge theoretically acquired, the labour market today defines quite clearly the specific requirements in terms of what a graduate should be able to do, provide for, organize, including the demands related to their competences. The purpose of the paper is to assess the ethical credibility of selected subjects in the field of soft skills based on the analysis and conclusions of research conducted in 2018-2019 at the Technical University in Zvolen. The method of questionnaire survey was chosen for the execution of the research. The paper presents the results of the selected area research of soft-skills, which showed the most significant differences – stress resistance. To evaluate the results was used the Mann-Whitney test of significance which is an especially appropriate test for two independent and randomly selected sets of sample observations. In this paper, the authors carried out tests on a Buckau-Wolf R8VD-136 ship engine, which was directly driving the propeller. This engine is owned by the Laboratory of Marine Engine Rooms at the Maritime University of Szczecin. For standard rotational speeds ranging from 200 to 280 rpm, with increments of 20 rpm, the authors measured the changes in the instantaneous speed for the engine’s normal operating conditions (reference graphs) as well as with one of the cylinders being out of operation. A no-combustion situation was successively introduced into each cylinder for each preset rotational speed. The obtained graphs of the instantaneous speed were then used to determine certain quantitative indicators, which the authors believe can provide information about the technical condition of the engine. The analysis concerned the averaged graphs of the speed under the conditions set for five consecutive engine operating cycles. The indicators that were calculated included the maximum difference in the speed over the engine’s full operating cycle, the uniformity of the engine speed and the differential speed area factor, the latter a term that has been proposed by the authors. The values of the individual indicators that were obtained from the reference graphs and the graphs with no combustion in one of the cylinders were compared. All indicators are sensitive to cylinder misfire. The fashion for recreational shooting and the dynamic development of shooting ranges resulted in conflict situations between the shooting range and the residents. Increasingly, the condition for allowing the shooting range to be used is to carry out an acoustic analysis to confirm the lack of noise nuisance. Therefore, it is necessary to develop guidelines for acoustic modelling of shooting ranges, taking into account their purpose and types of shooting axes. Each of the shooting axes is designed for a different type of shooting and thus has different acoustic characteristics. In the article, the author presents a method of modelling noise emissions from the shooting range on the example of one of the popular shooting competitions which is the hunting trap. First, acoustic measurements of the unit noise source related to the firing of shots by a firearms shooter were made. Then the directional characteristics of this source were determined, the shooting axis of the “hunting trap” type was modelled during a typical shooting competition and its directionality was determined. Still, the most common element of these devices are gears, whose range of use is very wide. There are both technological and historical considerations for the reconstruction of gears and other elements. In particular, this applies to spare parts for technical facilities that are not available on the market or service costs are too high. Contemporary reconstruction is called Reverse Engineering, which offers tools that allow transformation of an existing object through a virtual model into the final real product. Modern production engineering is based on innovative CAD – Computer Aided Designed design methods and computer-aided manufacturing technologies, CAM – Computer Aided Manufacturing. The rapid development of 3D CAD systems has led to the development of solutions to obtain the designed object, already at the development stage. Such a solution is the Rapid Prototyping method, designed for fast, precise and repeatable production of machine components. Widespread use and growing interest in the use of additive printing influenced the development of this technology. The purpose of the article is to present the practical application of the Reverse Engineering method and 3D printing in the reconstruction of gears. The object of research is the real gear, which has been reconstructed using Reverse Engineering and 3D printing. The article presents the basic assumptions of the methods used and the methodology for conducting reconstruction work. FDM (Fused Deposition Modeling) technology was used for the research. The results obtained are a real example of the practical application of the presented methods. The total amount of released methane is composed of the amount separated directly into the ventilation air in mines (ventilation methane) and included in the demethanation system, isolated from the ventilation air. Methane from the demethanation system is only partially utilized. The unused part of methane is discharged into the atmosphere. The paper presents how the amount of methane released in individual mines of Jastrzębska Spółka Węglowa S.A. was shaped, with a division into methane released to the ventilation system and included in the demethanation system, taking into account the part used for economic purposes and the part discharged to atmosphere. Its perspective must be wider than only its own practices. Supplier development process can be used to spread socially and environmentally responsible practices across the supply chain. The aim of the paper is to identify and classify the socially responsible activities practised by the car producers and dedicated to their suppliers. In the paper sustainability reports of seven automakers were analysed. The authors used the technique of content analysis. The socially responsible practices dedicated to suppliers was classified into three dimensions and four categories. All of the automakers disclose information in their sustainability reports on socially responsible practices focused on their suppliers. However, they can also create or deepen problems related to the social exclusion of certain groups of people, such as the elderly, for whom modern technology is still largely unavailable, and even arouses a sense of uncertainty and fear (the so-called technophobia). The consequences of such a phenomenon become particularly evident in the situation of social isolation, whose unprecedented dimension is currently observed in the so-called COVID-19 pandemic era. In particular, the occurrence of the phenomenon of social exclusion combined with a pandemic situation has contributed to the development of the assumptions of the project entitled “Developing the cognitive capabilities of older people through information technology.” This project was developed by the INNOVATOR Student Science Club at the Faculty of Organization and Management of the Silesian University of Technology, and its goal is to develop a tool to support the acquisition of competences by seniors in the field of technological content, operation of electronic devices and the implementation of daily and routine activities using the Internet, e.g. shopping via the Internet or using tele advice services. The proposed tool is also to support the stimulation of the development of cognitive abilities of seniors using e.g. logical games. In the course of project implementation, a survey will be conducted in selected Nursing Homes, Retirement Homes, online forums for the elderly and through direct contact, the results of which will allow to learn the needs and possibilities of developing the abilities of the examined people, and assess the effectiveness of the designed tool in the process of transferring content and shaping competences. An element encouraging seniors to participate in the planned research will be their active participation in lectures and/or talks, workshops and discussions. The assumed result of the project will be to reduce the negative effects of isolation of seniors, improve their communication with their loved ones and reduce the generation gap. Time spent on the design phase of a new machine is often reduced to a minimum. Small lot production and sometimes single piece production entails the necessity to frequently design and manufacture commercial copies, which are also prototypes. The only effective solution is to apply available CAD and CAE programs enabling digital prototyping. Their use allows for making a complete machine in a virtual environment. The virtual model is subjected to tests aimed at eliminating collisions, optimizing the construction as well as obtaining a lot of information concerning the load, kinematics, dynamics, stability and power demand. Digital prototyping enables avoiding the majority of errors whose detection and elimination in a real object is time-consuming and expensive. The article presents examples of the application of broadly understood computer aided designing of self-propelled mining machines, produced by Mine Master. The effects of applying the modelling, FEM strength analysis, static and dynamic simulations, modelling of drive systems have been demonstrated.
