We show that when infinite space transmission is employed, a linear static parametric model can be obtained to be used as a baseline for estimation algorithm design. When, however, the space is finite, the model becomes time varying and periodic broadcasting and integration over the broadcast period is employed to render the model static.","PeriodicalId":281609,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 3rd ACM International Conference on Nanoscale Computing and Communication","volume":"93 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-09-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122721761","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The skin layer is biologically modeled with a fibrous protein structure collagen and fibroblast cells. The variation of hydration level is investigated by decreasing the volume of type 1 collagen reagent. The refractive index value demonstrates that there is negligible change with variation in volume. These results highlight the fact that collagen reagent variation doesn't influence the water dynamics and hence pathloss parameters will remain unaffected.","PeriodicalId":281609,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 3rd ACM International Conference on Nanoscale Computing and Communication","volume":"307 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-09-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115252019","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In existing solutions, however, microfluidic frames consist of two droplets only: one contains the payload, whereas the other is used for signaling purposes only. As a consequence efficiency of such solution is very small. In this paper the above limitation is overcome by proposing microfluidic switches that can route microfluidic frames consisting of several, i.e, more than two, droplet. In such packets one droplet is used for signaling purposes only, whereas all the others carry payload. Therefore, efficiency increases. In this paper the proposed solution is described, analyzed and assessed through simulations.","PeriodicalId":281609,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 3rd ACM International Conference on Nanoscale Computing and Communication","volume":"27 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-09-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114877374","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In contrast, in this paper, we study non-coherent multiple-symbol detection schemes which do not require knowledge of the CSI. In particular, we derive the optimal maximum likelihood (ML) multiple-symbol (MLMS) detector. Moreover, we propose an approximated detection metric and a sub-optimal detector to cope with the high complexity of the optimal MLMS detector. Numerical results reveal the effectiveness of the proposed optimal and suboptimal detection schemes with respect to a baseline scheme which assumes perfect CSI knowledge, particularly when the number of observations used for detection is sufficiently large.","PeriodicalId":281609,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 3rd ACM International Conference on Nanoscale Computing and Communication","volume":"72 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-09-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123501560","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Reducing the Effect of Reaction Rate Constants on the Performance of Molecular Communication Networks 降低反应速率常数对分子通信网络性能的影响

{"title":"Reducing the Effect of Reaction Rate Constants on the Performance of Molecular Communication Networks","authors":"Hamdan Awan","doi":"10.1145/2967446.2967455","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.1145/2967446.2967455","url":null,"abstract":"In this work we consider a molecular communication system based on free diffusion of molecules from transmitter to receiver. These molecules act as message carriers with information encoded in either the concentration or number of molecules. These molecules propagate through the medium to reach the receiver, where they react with a receiver molecular circuit which is a set of chemical reactions, to produce the output molecules. The number of these output molecules over time t is the output signal of the system. In this work we use reversible conversion (RC) type receiver molecular circuit which can be viewed as a linearized form of ligand-receptor binding. We realize the molecular communication system as an interconnection between the diffusion only (upstream) and reaction only (downstream) systems. In this work first we quantify the effect of reaction rate constants on the system performance. By using singular perturbation we find that the communication performance of the system changes with the variations in the association constant r (which depends on reaction rate constants) of the receiver circuit. We find that although the gain and capacity of the system is improved with the increase in r, the noise increases as well which results in lower signal to noise ratio (SNR). To overcome this problem and improve the system performance in terms of SNR and capacity we introduce an intermediate system of reactions between the upstream and downstream systems which is referred as phosphorylation cycle. By carefully choosing the parameter values of the intermediate system we can reduce the effect of the association constant r on behaviour of system.","PeriodicalId":281609,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 3rd ACM International Conference on Nanoscale Computing and Communication","volume":"67 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-09-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121160163","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The transmitter, assumed to be perfectly synchronized in time with the receiver, releases a single information particle in each time slot, where the information is encoded in the time of release. The receiver decodes the transmitted information based on the random time of arrivals of the information particles during a finite-time reception window. The maximum-likelihood (ML) detector is derived and shown to have an exponential computational complexity, thus, rendering it impractical. In addition, two practical detectors are presented: The first is a symbol-by-symbol detector. The second is a sequence detector which is based on the Viterbi algorithm (VA), yet, the VA is used differently than in its common application in ML detection where information is transmitted over linear channels with memory. Numerical simulations indicate that the proposed sequence detection algorithm significantly improves the performance compared to the symbol-by-symbol detector. Furthermore, for a short number of transmitted symbols it closely approaches the highly complicated ML detector.","PeriodicalId":281609,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 3rd ACM International Conference on Nanoscale Computing and Communication","volume":"18 5","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-09-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114121161","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The generalizable capability of LSM makes it a powerful intelligent engine, with very fast training capabilities. Reconfigurable hardware architectures for spatiotemporal signal processing algorithms like LSMs are energy efficient compared to the traditional Recurrent Neural Netork (RNN) and can also adapt to real-time changes without being application specific. Existing behavioral models of LSM cannot process real time data due to their hardware complexity or fixed design approach. The proposed model focuses on a simple liquid design that exploits spatial locality and is capable of processing real time data. The proposed reservoir hardware is evaluated for epileptic seizure detection with an average accuracy of 85%.","PeriodicalId":281609,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 3rd ACM International Conference on Nanoscale Computing and Communication","volume":"145 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-09-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123734132","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Amplitude addressing is an addressing mechanism where the amplitude of transmitted signal is assigned as address of the source. When multiple sources collide, receiver performs interference cancellation and minimizes collision resolution error. We propose two receiver designs for an amplitude addressing system. We show that amplitude-addressing along with an optimum receiver implicitly solves the problem of medium access control.","PeriodicalId":281609,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 3rd ACM International Conference on Nanoscale Computing and Communication","volume":"6 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-09-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128743999","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
