In DSM, the objective is to reduce the peak to average ratio (PAR) value by flattening t he load curve top rovide exemptions f rom enhancing generation transmission units by the utility. In this paper, a Genetic Algorithm (GA) optimization-based DSM technique for residential users is proposed to attain a flattened daily load curve. It incorporates two-stage optimization by GA in determining the near-optimum load data set to be allocated in each slot by shifting some non-essential loads to a lower-demand time slot. Consumer comfort is prioritized while shifting the loads from a time slot to a new slot to attain lower PAR. The simulation outcomes from the test case scenario show that the PAR is reduced by about 40% by applying the proposed DSM.","PeriodicalId":280565,"journal":{"name":"2022 Global Energy Conference (GEC)","volume":"149 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-10-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127686706","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Implementation of a three-phase SSSC is complex owing to its intricate control structure, complex PWM techniques and its requirement of a coupling transformer to be connected to the grid. This paper presents a complete implementation of a single-phase cascaded converter topology for the SSSC. The proposed system is implemented by IGBTs based Voltage Source Converters (VSC) which consists of 5 H-bridge modules per phase connected directly in series with the line without a coupling transformer. A simplified direct voltage control system employing a PID regulator is implemented using Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) technique to control the magnitude of the injected voltage. The dynamic performance of the SSSC is investigated on PSCAD/EMTDC simulation tool in inductive operation mode and the effect of the variation of the injected voltage level on power flow is observed. For the synchronization of SSSC with the grid, SOGI-PLL is implemented which provides a better steady-state and dynamic performance. It is seen that SOGI-PLL provides accurate tracking of the grid parameters even in the presence of harmonics and distortion.","PeriodicalId":280565,"journal":{"name":"2022 Global Energy Conference (GEC)","volume":"33 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-10-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128124391","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Thermal generation units provide the majority of the world's required electrical energy. Meeting energy demand while keeping thermal generation units' fuel costs to a minimum is the foundation of the economic distribution challenge. The economic dispatch problem is addressed in this research, and a new heuristic approach, the honey badger algorithm (HBA), is proposed to address it. Using a case study from Turkey, the suggested HBA was put through its paces. The efficiency of the suggested algorithm has been evaluated in comparison to other approaches. These include the genetic algorithm (GA), the simulated annealing (SA), and the crow search algorithm (CSA). The results demonstrate that the proposed HBA outperforms competing approaches in terms of operational success. Thus, the suggested HBA yielded daily profits of $17.9736 and annual profits of $6,740.496. Simultaneously, the proposed HBA method decreases the system's reliance on fuel while in operation and decreases the emission of hazardous gases from heat generation units.","PeriodicalId":280565,"journal":{"name":"2022 Global Energy Conference (GEC)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-10-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133382348","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The CPPS uses pervasive sensing technology, sophisticated measurement technology, and robust information processing technology to achieve the observability and controllability of the electric grid. However, CPPS is more prone to attack than any prior single-structured system due to the high volume of smart device accesses and frequent exchange of information. With the help of the cyber subsystem, malware and hackers can target the CPPS, which can then be fatal to the physical system that supplies energy. In view of this, the paper focuses on detecting and identifying the cyber attacks on the CPPS. The paper proposes an intrusion detection system (IDS) employing a decision tree for classifying different types of cyber attacks launched on the CPPS. The evaluation metrics such as accuracy, precision, recall, and F1 score are computed for different types of cyber attacks to show the effectiveness of the proposed IDS. Finally, from the results, it can be claimed that the proposed IDS is successful in identifying the various cyber attacks on CPPS in different test scenarios.","PeriodicalId":280565,"journal":{"name":"2022 Global Energy Conference (GEC)","volume":"30 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-10-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125549028","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This research paper presents a poultry house zone consisting of four poultry houses. Likewise, the chosen location for this research work is Chattogram, Bangladesh. Besides, a detailed load demand is calculated to understand the total energy demand. From the load profile, the peak load was found 26.12 kW, and the average daily consumption was found 226.36 kWh. Furthermore, renewable energy resources such as solar and biomass energy were utilized to develop a smart microgrid to fulfill the energy demand of the poultry farm. According to the simulation findings, A grid-tied photovoltaic system (PV) paired with Biogas based generators (BGG) appeared to be the most cost-effective solution. Moreover, A grid-tied system designed with PV, battery energy storage system (BESS) was compared with the preferred system, and it exceeds the life cycle cost (LCC) of grid only case. Although the PV-BGG-Grid strategy does not use grid electricity, it has very low net emissions and reduces emissions by 99% when compared to a grid-only approach. Finally, three equal-capacity BGGs were used in the proposed approach for load balancing for optimal operation.","PeriodicalId":280565,"journal":{"name":"2022 Global Energy Conference (GEC)","volume":"30 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-10-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126376779","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Amongst them, the solar energy holds a unique place because of the global availability. However, certain challenges must be addressed to appropriately integrate the photovoltaic cells with the power networks. In this regard, this paper investigates the promise of a new intelligent optimization technique named weighted mean of vectors (also known as INFO) algorithm in terms of successfully estimating the parameters of single and double diode photovoltaic models. The obtained results are compared with that of the available approaches reported in literature. It is very convenient for laboratories that do not have a wind tunnel together with a real wind turbine for performance testing of wind energy generator and control systems. In addition, it provides a controllable test environment for the evaluation and development of control schemes for electric generators which are challenging to achieve with an actual wind turbine due to the random variation in wind speed. This paper presents the design and development of a Wind Turbine Emulator for evaluating and analyzing the performance of Wind Energy Conversion Systems and its performance verification through PSIM simulation environment. The WTE includes DC voltage source, a power resistor and a separately excited DC motor. For a given wind speed, the motor power-speed curve resembles a wind turbine power curve. Various simulation tests have been performed on the proposed WTE where the change in mechanical power at different wind speed cases are examined by adjusting input voltage. In addition, the relationship between permanent magnet synchronous generator (PMSG) speed and the output power is analyzed by changing the duty cycle of the boost converter, while the other parameters are kept constant. The design of the system offers a wide range of flexibility and a pleasant indoor laboratory environment where wind speed and turbine parameters can be easily controlled.","PeriodicalId":280565,"journal":{"name":"2022 Global Energy Conference (GEC)","volume":"118 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-10-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127298572","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

By moving the supply to the demand point, energy transmission costs are reduced in these systems, the demand is met with renewable resources, the damage to the environment is minimized, the supply security is ensured for the societies, and the energy dependency is reduced in countries dependent on conventional energy. For this reason, the orientation to these systems has accelerated. In addition to the advantages of rooftop systems, there are also constraints that prevent their spread. The first of these constraints is the inadequacy of the roof areas that can be installed. For this reason, it is necessary to use these limited areas in an optimal way. Of course, when optimizing the space, economic parameters, a focus on renewables and the right fulfillment of demand must be taken into account. In this study, a solution proposal has been developed for this sizing problem. In this context, Turkey's energy consumption values were scaled and micro Turkey was formed. The energy demands of this microgrid were met by using a rooftop pv system and hydro-based storage unit. And cost optimization was carried out by performing a lifetime cost analysis on this system. It has been ensured that the demand is met entirely from renewable resources with minimum cost. Particle Swarm Optimization technique was used as the optimization method. Optimization was carried out in Matlab Environment. The study was carried out as follows; Hourly loads were analyzed, energy balance equations were created to meet these loads, and lifetime cost analysis was made according to the technical characteristics of this energy balance and resources. With the particle swarm optimization technique, optimal sizing has been achieved at optimal minimum cost.","PeriodicalId":280565,"journal":{"name":"2022 Global Energy Conference (GEC)","volume":"312 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-10-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116381275","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

More potentially, a new info-geometric limitation for the rescaling parameter of the GBMM is revealed, which was never known before in physics. Clearly, this emphasizes the potential role of Information geometry (IG) to re- study the dynamics of GBMM rather than other known classical approaches. In principle, the Shared Abel Prize (Noble Prize of Mathematics) 2020 between Furstenberg and Margulis surprised the academic community by their brilliant application of probabilistic techniques and random walks to resolve challenging issues in a variety of mathematical disciplines. This indicates the ultimate significance of the undertaken novel approach in this paper since we IG is employed to start a first ever investigation of Generalized Brownian Motion (GBM) which is the ultimate generalization to random walks. This provides more stunning mathematical insight to a unified contemporary analysis of GBM. This current work both generalizes and supersedes Furstenberg and Margulis. More interestingly, influential applications of Information geometry (IG) and Brownian Motion (BM) to energy works are overviewed. Fundamentally, the current work opens new frontiers to the info-geometry theory of Generalized Brownian Motion (IGBM) as well as the provision of new insights about the potential IG applications to all researchers in the field of energy.","PeriodicalId":280565,"journal":{"name":"2022 Global Energy Conference (GEC)","volume":"37 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-10-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123812304","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
