However, asymmetric transmission power of BSs and received power based user association (UA) necessitates some form of user offloading between MBSs and PBSs on both the downlink and uplink to maximize system performance. In this work, we formulate optimal downlink and uplink decoupled UA as an optimization problem. We show that this network wide optimization problem is not real time solvable. Hence, we propose a novel fuzzy logic based cell selection framework that can be tuned for system level performance gains. Further, we show that in certain scenarios, careful tuning of fuzzy logic system based UA results in significant increase in system performance compared with existing techniques.","PeriodicalId":279637,"journal":{"name":"2016 Twenty Second National Conference on Communication (NCC)","volume":"22 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-03-04","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124523291","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The paper also proposes a method to extract the speech polarity information using the properties of the Hilbert transform. The Hilbert transform of the speech is computed as the imaginary part of the complex analytic signal representation of the original speech. The Hilbert envelope (HE) is then computed as the magnitude of the analytic signal. The average slope of the signal amplitudes of speech and Hilbert transform of speech around the peaks in the HE are observed to be varying in accordance with the polarity of the speech signal. The effectiveness of the proposed approach is confirmed by the performance evaluation over 7 voices of the phonetically balanced CMU-Arctic database and German emotional speech database. The performance of the proposed approach is also observed to be comparable with that of the existing algorithms such as residual skewness based polarity detection and Hilbert phase based speech polarity detection. Finally, a significant improvement in the identification accuracies of the estimated epochs in speech using the popular zero frequency filtering (ZFF) method is demonstrated as an application of the speech polarity detection.","PeriodicalId":279637,"journal":{"name":"2016 Twenty Second National Conference on Communication (NCC)","volume":"40 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-03-04","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115855218","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

We propose a framework to consolidate Integral Channel Features (ICF) to represent targets' appearance by embedding global and patch based approaches which offer feature strength and accuracy to the target template. The use of ICF expedites the extraction of color and structural features from video frames in a very efficient manner. Application of the patch based approach on global templates with maximum similarity metric enables better object representation. Target's appearance representation is updated using k-means clustering and vector quantization. We use incremental PCA learning for acquiring training samples and presenting fixed size feature codebook vectors. Experiments are conducted to compare performance between the proposed approach and two other state of the art approaches. Results show that the proposed approach outperforms published state of the art methods.","PeriodicalId":279637,"journal":{"name":"2016 Twenty Second National Conference on Communication (NCC)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-03-04","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130860485","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In a similar spirit, in this paper, we propose an agri-advisory system developed for analysis of agricultural images, particularly apple images. The image processing tasks considered, are those of super-resolution (SR) and image segmentation for annotation. We develop simple and efficient methods for enhancing the resolution of images, and to automatically segment defects on apples in their images. We propose an example-based SR, which involves simple modules of construction of dictionaries based on local luminance variance, patch selection and weighted reconstruction of patches. The image segmentation algorithm is a combination of chrominance thresholding and low-level morphological operations. Our experimental results demonstrate that such simple and efficient methods suitable for network applications, are also quite effective, given a specific application domain.","PeriodicalId":279637,"journal":{"name":"2016 Twenty Second National Conference on Communication (NCC)","volume":"55 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-03-04","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122244728","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Rotating polarization is an RF technique to artificially induce fading in a static environment, and thus reduce the chance of prolonged deep fades. However, this technique makes the channel vary at a high rate and hence increases the complexity of channel estimation. In this paper, we look at channel estimation in systems using rotating polarization. Drawing parallels from MIMO systems, we propose a technique for designing a training sequence that reduces the complexity of channel estimation while providing good performance in an induced fast fading environment. We analyse the performance of the least-squares and minimum mean square error channel estimation techniques with rotating polarization.","PeriodicalId":279637,"journal":{"name":"2016 Twenty Second National Conference on Communication (NCC)","volume":"6 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-03-04","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126572902","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The proposed method is aimed at reducing the requirement of on-board memory, station contact time and data archival volume. Compressive sensing (CS) has been applied to encode the distributed wavelet coefficients into linear measurements. Since prior knowledge of the compressively sampled measurements is not available, a modeler is employed to determine the context of the measurement vector. Based on the statistics provided by the context modeler, the samples are entropy coded for transmission. A part of the compressive sampling measurements with near uniform distribution are encoded through adjusted binary coding, and the rest are encoded through Golomb-Rice coding. Run length encoding is implemented for exploiting the redundancy in the binary data further. At the receiver end, the original spatial signal is reconstructed from the CS samples by approximate message passing (AMP) algorithm and inverse discrete wavelet transform (IDWT) for video decompression. Simulation of the proposed approach has demonstrated an efficient compression of the video cubes with lower complexity at the transmitter end.","PeriodicalId":279637,"journal":{"name":"2016 Twenty Second National Conference on Communication (NCC)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-03-04","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129358119","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Closed form expressions are derived for the per-frame average pair-wise error probability (PEP) and SNR outage probability considering a realistic scenario where all the communicating nodes including the relay are in motion along with channel estimation errors at each receiving node. Further, we present a framework for optimal power allocation at the source and relay nodes. Simulation results are presented to demonstrate the outage and PEP performance of the MIMO-OSTBC DF cooperative relaying system and verify the analytical expressions derived. It is observed that the optimal power factors, obtained by considering the scenario with perfect channel estimates and static nodes, leads to a lower outage and PEP performance in the low as well as moderate SNR regimes. Moreover, at high SNR, the outage performance for both equal and optimal power allocation approaches the derived asymptotic floor.","PeriodicalId":279637,"journal":{"name":"2016 Twenty Second National Conference on Communication (NCC)","volume":"27 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-03-04","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123689482","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The glottal stop consonant is produced due to laryngeal gesture in the form of constricted glottis. This pressed glottal configuration, leads to period to period irregularities, aperiodicity, and asymmetry. Normalized crosscorrelation coefficient (NCC) between two successive glottal cycles is computed to capture the dissimilarity between adjacent glottal cycles. Also to characterize the variation in the abruptness of glottal pulses, ratio between strength of excitation (SoE) at two consecutive epoch locations and temporal energy distribution using waveform peak factor (WPF) are computed. To capture the asymmetric behavior of each glottal cycle, higher order statistics (HOS) measures are evaluated. These features show discrimination between glottal stop and other adjacent sounds and can therefore be used for spotting glottal stops in continuous speech.","PeriodicalId":279637,"journal":{"name":"2016 Twenty Second National Conference on Communication (NCC)","volume":"74 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-03-04","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126273534","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this paper, a multi resolution non negative matrix factorisation (NMF) based acoustic echo cancellation method is proposed. This acoustic echo cancellation addresses two important research issues. Unlike conventional filter based algorithms for acoustic echo cancellation, which suffer from poor tracking of time varying loudspeaker microphone enclosure (LEM), this method cancels acoustic echo without estimating the LEM. So it is more robust to both double-talk and single talk scenarios. Secondly, the NMF based acoustic echo cancellation method suffers degeneration of speech signal due to fixed time frequency resolution. The use of adaptive multi-resolutions reduces this degeneration and provides a better estimate of near end speech signal. Experiments on acoustic echo cancellation are performed on CMU ARCTIC database with several datasets at different values of echo to near end signal ratio. The experimental results are compared with existing state of the art echo cancellation methods using both perceptual and objective quality evaluations. The proposed method performs reasonably better than other methods motivating its use in acoustic echo cancellation in teleconferencing environment.","PeriodicalId":279637,"journal":{"name":"2016 Twenty Second National Conference on Communication (NCC)","volume":"42 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-03-04","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121472202","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Relay nodes are the market players, who compete to trade their power to source in order to maximize their incentives. Asymptotic analysis of the intercept probability is presented when source-relay and relay-destination average SNRs are the same or different. We evaluate the utility of relays in various novel duopoly economic communication models and show that increase in channel gain from relay to eavesdropper, decreases the profit of relays. We also demonstrate that the choice of strategic variable as output or price, can have a dramatic effect on the Nash outcome in an oligopoly interactive market.","PeriodicalId":279637,"journal":{"name":"2016 Twenty Second National Conference on Communication (NCC)","volume":"34 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-03-04","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133218495","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
