The pharmaceutical industry is in a rapidly changing environment of healthcare reforms and government initiatives aimed at controlling costs. Dynamics are observed both in customers and in the industry as a whole. Some of the current trends that have the greatest impact on the industry are: globalization and consolidation, as well as technology. Due to overestimated health literacy, unequal and limited access to health and pharmaceutical care and services, as well as economic inequality and limitations, people are increasingly resorting to self-medication methods—mainly through over-the-counter drugs (the so-called OTC), food supplements, functional foods, herbal products. This also raises the question of risk management in their use. Aim: The aim of this article is to take into account the aspects influencing the market of OTC medicinal products, food supplements, and functional foods.","PeriodicalId":279379,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Varna Medical College","volume":"75 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-03-04","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133496349","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

From the discovery, purification and mass production of insulin to the development of less painful ways to deliver it to people with diabetes. Although it can be difficult to predict the impact of new technology, there are several interesting trends in how people with diabetes receive medical care or manage their own condition. A relatively new innovation, continuous monitoring of blood sugar, is already changing their daily lives (2). Initially, the term for obtaining the required qualification was one year, but subsequently it gradually increased. With time, new programs were established, such as a medical laboratory assistant, to meet the needs of the health system. Globally, as in Bulgaria, periodic reforms have been taking place, dictated by the increased needs of society for quality health care. They influence the education of health professionals as their professional training is placed on a qualitatively new basis, which preserves some of the traditions, but also introduces modern innovative forms.","PeriodicalId":279379,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Varna Medical College","volume":"43 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-12-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126476235","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Metal ceramics is a type of prosthetic construction, which has been used in Bulgaria for more than several decades. Restorations meet all the requirements of prosthetic treatment. This is a complex structure fixed on a tooth or teeth, made of a precious metal alloy on which ceramic (porcelain fused to metal) is applied. Well made, it is strong, resistant to chewing load and aesthetically sound. In order to achieve individual and successful results, all factors, such as aesthetics, functionality, anatomy and structural dynamics, have to be taken into consideration. The purpose of this report is to present two cases from the dental technology practice in which the defects of the dental crowns and bridges are restored by means of metal-ceramic bridge constructions on precious metal alloys. To achieve this goal, a multidisciplinary team was formed, which resulted in the manufactured restorative structures having maximum strength, functional suitability and perfect aesthetics.","PeriodicalId":279379,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Varna Medical College","volume":"79 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-12-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121871351","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Prior to the Liberation in 1878, the country had often been hit by major epidemics of cholera, plague, and ma-laria. The reasons were: bad hygienic conditions, lack of sanitary control over the infectious diseases, untimely treatment of the diseased. As a port city, major military units would gather and the lack of supervision over the infectious diseases led to mass epidemics which took the lives of thousands. Immediately after the Liberation, the Bulgarian medical community realized the necessity of immediate measures and organization of anti-epidemic initiatives. The objective of this report is to historically research the first measures undertaken for the solution of public problems regarding dealing with epidemics, decrease of mortality rates and determining their significance for the improvement of the population’s health in Varna during the period reviewed. Performed is a review of archived documents and historical analysis of the first anti-epidemic initiatives in Varna. The results are part of a broader research, which indicates that for the period from 1902 to 1910 infectious diseases have decreased 10 times. Taking timely and adequate measures in the fight against infectious diseases leads to the improvement of public health.","PeriodicalId":279379,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Varna Medical College","volume":"685 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-12-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116110505","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
