This research used quantitative method to collect the data with descriptive correlational design. The population of this research was the fourth semester students of the English Department of IAIN Kerinci which consisted of 44 students as the sample were collected through total sampling technique. In analyzing the data, the researcher used Pearson Product Moment and Multiple Linear Regression technique by using SPSS (Statistical Program for Social Science) 20.0 for windows. It showed that: (1) the coefficient correlation between students’ reading habit and their reading comprehension ability (X1+Y) was 0,867 with a significance value of 0,000 which smaller than 0,05. It indicates that there was very strong positive significant correlation between students’ reading habit and their reading comprehension ability; (2) the coefficient correlation between students’ intrapersonal intelligence and their reading comprehension ability (X2+Y) was 0,576 with a significance value of 0,000 which smaller than 0,05. It means that there was enough positive significant correlation between students’ intrapersonal intelligence and their reading comprehension ability; and (3) the value of significant correlation between students’ reading habit, intrapersonal intelligence and their reading comprehension ability (X1+X2+Y) was 0.000 which smaller than 0.05 (Sig < 0.05). Moreover, the value of simultant test was Fcalculate = 62,472 > Ftable = 2,83. It implies that H3 was accepted and H0 was rejected. Descriptive qualitative study was exploited to answer the research question. The communication between teacher and student in WhatsApp group during online learning was main focus of this study. The group consisted of 15 courses taught by 7 lectures. The result of the study showed that the most frequent utterance used was directive which outnumbered all categories with 38%. Declarations 36%. Commissive, expressive and assertive got the smallest proportion with 12%, 8% and 6%. Moreover, there was not the existence of FIA found in the lecturer’s utterance. Meanwhile, the utterance of FTA by lecturer showed that 70 % as hearer negative face that bind student freedom. Speaker negative face followed in the second highest number with 23 percent. Both positive face either speaker and hearer got 7% of all utterances. The hearer negative face in directive utterance turned out to be the most appearance by the lecturer on 34.11%. This followed closely by the negative face in declaration by 21.57%. The unique thing existed on how commissive act in both speaker and hearer negative face got 10.50% and 11.08 %. This concluded that the authority of the teacher led the use of hearer negative FTA that constraints student freedom. Using the descriptive qualitative method, the author completes the analysis by presenting all of the data in the form of words and sentences. The writer collects data from various sources including Eleven Minutes by Paulo Coelho, This Too Shall Pass by Milena Busquets, and relevant books, articles, and journals to support the analysis. Based on the results of the analysis, the two literary works show similarities and differences relating to the Self-Actualization that is experienced by the two main characters of both literary works. The researcher used the qualitative descriptive technique in order to perform the investigation. The information was gathered via class observation, including recording three meetings' worth of teaching and learning activities. After that, the tape was transcribed to analyze the data. The participants were a native English speaker and young learners from grade two primary students. The study's results reveal that the native speaker used various phrase types in her instruction, including simple, compound, complex, and compound-complex sentences. However, the most type of sentence she used is a simple sentence followed by a compound-complex and complex sentence. A minor type of sentence she used is a compound sentence. She also used three distinct tenses during her teaching. They exist in the present, the past, and the future. The most type of tenses she used was present and future tense. She almost rarely used past tense.","PeriodicalId":278118,"journal":{"name":"Loquen: English Studies Journal","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-06-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116541322","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This means that English teaching not only stimulates students to improve linguistic competence but also to enhance their intercultural competence. Teachers or designers must incorporate the cultural aspects as part of their teaching practices or teaching materials. This research aimed at (1) developing an intercultural-based textbook for teaching writing, (2) evaluating the feasibility of the intercultural-based textbook for teaching writing, and (3) evaluating the effect of the intercultural-based textbook on students’ writing skills. Twenty-one secondary school students participated as the subject of the research. Meanwhile, the ADDIE model (Analysis-Design-Develop-Implement Evaluate) was employed as its material development design. There were two experts who validated the textbook and an English teacher as the user. The result showed that an intercultural-based textbook was feasible to use for teaching writing. It was supported by the assessment results from the experts that were in the valid category. The use of the textbook also had an effect on students’ writing skills even in the low category.
