On the other hand, utilizing natural resources that form islanded microgrids located in different areas can pose peculiar energy management issues, particularly, when different energy providers manage the renewable and nonrenewable small powerhouses. This paper proposes a framework focusing on the design of sustainable aggregate management system for minimizing the operating time of diesel generators, and thus, reducing the fuel cost and increasing the battery lifetime, while at the same time protecting the environment. Initially, the paper discusses the structure of the existing system. Further, an energy management approach is presented for maximizing the generated power from the available renewable resources at different hours. The presented results show that the proposed sustainable design can be an effective method for planning the development of electrification in the rural areas of Sarawak.","PeriodicalId":278078,"journal":{"name":"2018 IEEE 7th International Conference on Power and Energy (PECon)","volume":"22 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127649457","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This research focuses on using wide area synchrophasor measurements for fault location in transmission network which acts as a backup to conventional fault location method. Simple reactance based methods together with a developed rules system are used to locate the possible affected line and its fault location. Using the developed rules and algorithm, fault location impedance will be compared at each synchrophasor bus connected lines for different fault types, then between connected lines and finally between synchrophasors buses. Faults at various locations with different fault resistances have been simulated and the results prove that the developed method can be used to locate the fault point and can be used as a backup to main fault location method. Future works also discussed how the method can be improved to get the best and accurate fault location results.","PeriodicalId":278078,"journal":{"name":"2018 IEEE 7th International Conference on Power and Energy (PECon)","volume":"386 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122779160","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Among different renewable energy resources wind energy is assumed to be more friendly towards the green environment. In order to capture the maximum benefit large wind forms are deployed in many countries which are connected to different power grid in order to fulfill the energy requirement of the country. This increased penetration of wind farms raised many challenges like the dynamics and quality of power system. It is evident from the previous work on wind turbines, which have pad mount transformers take more time for calculation and hence are not suitable for research. There is a need to have an alternate technology that is more efficient. This paper uses a systematic approach to propose an alternative model. We verified proposed alternative model by matching the results of both equivalent and large wind farm uniform models for power flow and transient stability analysis in power world simulator and obtained same results for both models.","PeriodicalId":278078,"journal":{"name":"2018 IEEE 7th International Conference on Power and Energy (PECon)","volume":"90 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125144842","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, there is still no easy-to-use method that has been widely used. In this paper, we propose a remote contactless method using a vertical magnetic-sensor array. Two algorithms based on the measured magnetic fields are also proposed. The simulation results show that two proposed algorithms, involving the use of only vertical magnetic-sensor array with the known overhead-line geometries, can achieve an accurate phase current measurement whose error is smaller than ± 3%.","PeriodicalId":278078,"journal":{"name":"2018 IEEE 7th International Conference on Power and Energy (PECon)","volume":"7 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130876108","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This paper introduces the design and development of Robotic Arm with Proximity and Color Detection using Arduino Mega microcontroller. The robotic arm has six degrees of freedom (6-DOF). This project not only satisfies the criteria of being a substitute for tough human labor but also is a smart robot, since it can detect objects and also measure the distance between itself and those objects. Moreover, it can identify colors thereby distinguish between discrete items. This helps the robot to identify the objects and make decisions according to the input commands.","PeriodicalId":278078,"journal":{"name":"2018 IEEE 7th International Conference on Power and Energy (PECon)","volume":"442 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133745997","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The modelling and simulation was developed in MATLAB/Simulink having subsystems of PV arrays and a grid connected inverter to form the PV system. The environmental working conditions; sunlight irradiance and temperature will be the inputs to the model to simulate the output power and energy. This model has been tested using three sets of data obtained from UQ’s website and the outcome of the simulation is then used to compare with the actual data. The root mean square (RMS) method is used as an error indicator. The proposed model yields a lowest error of 11.22% and 6.29% for power and energy respectively. With the achieved minimum error as compared to the actual data, the model contributes in developing a sense of certainty among the solar energy industry that are interested and plans to invest in the future.","PeriodicalId":278078,"journal":{"name":"2018 IEEE 7th International Conference on Power and Energy (PECon)","volume":"349 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134351611","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Mineral oil has been used as an electrical insulation and coolant in transformer for over a century due to its properties and insulating features. But, the application of mineral oil in power system equipment is dangerously exposed to the environment which may lead to unwanted accidents during the operation. Due to the concerns of reducing mineral oil usage and its environmental issues, alternatively the solutions to find new sources as a replacement by using the vegetables oil has been investigated. In this paper, the sample of corn and mineral oils is experimented as the samples in the study. Mainly, the aim of this research is to compare the dielectric strength of corn and mineral oils at differently varied ratios. Another objective is to study effect of presence copper particle and aging process to the dielectric strength of insulation oil. This study is referring to IEC60156 guidelines. The results show that the performance of pure vegetable oil without particle is higher compared to mixed vegetable oil. This finding is revealed that the vegetable oil is highly concentrated and the aged oil that included copper as a catalyst may provide a good dielectric strength.","PeriodicalId":278078,"journal":{"name":"2018 IEEE 7th International Conference on Power and Energy (PECon)","volume":"51 9","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"120983062","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
