But their contribution has not been identified fully and acknowledged. In the present scenario of globalization, liberalization and privatization of agricultural sector, the sustainable development of farm women is considered as a key factor for development of any country. This study was conducted in Dharwad, Gadag and Haveri districts of Karnataka. The woman who had received Yuva Shresta Krishi Mahile award during 2014-2017 was purposively selected. A total of 60 young awardee farm women were selected as a sample for the study from 17 talukas conferred by the UAS Dharwad. Pre-structured interview schedule was used to collect the data. Suitable statistical tools like frequency, percentage and indices were used for analysis of the data. The important findings of the study revealed that, cent per cent of the awardee farm women belonged to young age group (< 35 years) had high school education and from big family size (43.33 %) belonged to joint family (51.67 %), had medium farming experience (60.00 %) and had big land holding (38.33%). A majority of the respondents had low annual income (78.33 %), 63.34 per cent had high level management orientation, 33.33 per cent had medium level and only 3.33 per cent had low level of management orientation.","PeriodicalId":276302,"journal":{"name":"Agriculture Update","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-08-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130389376","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

FFS originated from Indonesia, is presently being conducted in many countries with local adaptations and institutionalization. FFS is a groupbased learning process that includes hands-on training methods, carried out through field observations, agro-ecosystem analysis at subgroup level, agro-ecosystem analysis at school level and special topics. Participants of farmer field schools are made to learn through direct real-life experiences to maximize retention of farm information. During the period 1994-2013, total 14,617 FFS were organized to train 58,422 agricultural extension officers and 4,39,508 farmers in the country. Evaluation studies reported that the FFS approach has empowered farmers in knowledge acquisition, analytical skills, critical thinking, problem-solving skills and reflecting an increase in yield, reduction in pesticide use and farm-level returns. Sustained diffusion from field school graduates to neighboring farmers still lacks convincing evidences. Effective FFS essentially require backstopping by experienced facilitators, appropriate fund release mechanism, proper logistics, regular monitoring and participation of farmers.","PeriodicalId":276302,"journal":{"name":"Agriculture Update","volume":"61 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-08-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130335152","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Pointing the importance of cluster frontline demonstrations in transfer of oilseed production technologies, Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Barpeta conducted CFLDs at farmers’ field and accordingly study was conducted in Barpeta district of Assam. The study revealed that important package of practices where more increase in adoption was found were use of high yielding variety of rapeseed Var-TS-38 (72.5%), seed treatment (67.5%), use of proper seed rate (65.0%), recommended fertilizer dose (57.5%), line sowing on furrows (40.0%), weed management (27.5%) and sowing time (30.0%). There was noteworthy difference observed in yield of oilseed before conductance of CFLD and after CFLD programme. B:C ratio of oilseed crop after CFLD was higher than before CFLD. It showed impact of CFLD on adoption of oilseed production technologies. The factors responsible for low B:C ratio before CFLD was less adoption of all the recommended package of practices for oilseed crop in the region.","PeriodicalId":276302,"journal":{"name":"Agriculture Update","volume":"33 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-08-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115096039","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Agriculture inputs dealers may this way perform the function of the “Change agent”. Agriculture input dealers are also playing an important role in increasing agricultural production in the country. The main aim of agriculture input dealers was thus, to provide expert services, advice to farmers and supply of inputs to agriculture according to local needs i.e. quality seeds, fertilizers, pesticides, engineering material and provide the employment to the people indeed an input dealer forms an important bridge between the farmers and the agriculture developmental agencies and is often regarded by the farmers as a “Friend, Philosopher and Guide” and is truly a change agent. Study is designed with specific Objectives: To know the training needs of owners of agro service centre and to study the constraints faced by owners of agro service centre. The study was conducted in Ahmednagar district of the western Maharashtra region, as maximum number of agro service centre owners of agro service centres in this district. Rahuri, Rahata, Shrirampur, Ahmednagar, Sangamner and Kopargaon tahsils selected for study, results are majority of owners (73.33%) had medium level of training need. On the other hand 20 per cent had more level of training need and majority of respondents faced constraints mostly related to overdue from farmers followed by lack of technical assistance, competition with other owners and lack of finance.","PeriodicalId":276302,"journal":{"name":"Agriculture Update","volume":"37 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-08-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116329628","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Farmers grow crop by adopting traditional method of paddy cultivation, use more seed rate, close spacing, late transplanting with over aged seedlings common phenomenon due to erotic rainfall climate change. Scarcity of labour and escalation in labour wages, reduction in labour efficiency are leading to low net returns. In this context DAATT Centre, Vizianagaram district of ANGRAU, in collaboration with Department of Agriculture, Vizianagaram has introduced “Mechanized System Rice Intensification (MSRI). Mechanized system rice intensification (MSRI) is boon to farmers to save money and time. DAATT Centre, Vizianagaram has organized on farm trials (OFTs) in farmer fields in two seasons Kharif, 2015 and Kharif, 2016. MSRI technology in paddy recorded 20.76 per cent yield over normal transplanting method of paddy cultivation during both Kharif seasons. The results from the study showed that the farmers realized the Rs.15038 additional net income due to increased grain yield by 20.76 per cent with reduction of cost of cultivation by Rs.1150, it could be attributed to reduction in manual labour of 3 man labour and 21 women labour per ha and also increase in yield attributes and yield.","PeriodicalId":276302,"journal":{"name":"Agriculture Update","volume":"9 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-08-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114512346","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Further, most of the inputs have become costly and out of reach of these resource poor farmers which has resulted farming as an uneconomic and unsustainable enterprise. To fulfil the basic needs of household including food (cereal, pulses, oilseeds, milk, fruit, honey, fish meat, etc.) for human, feed and fodder for animals and fuel and fibre for general use warrant an attention about integrated farming system. The emergence of integrated farming systems (IFS) has enabled us to develop a framework for an alternative development model to improve the feasibility of small sized farming operations in relation to larger ones. Integrated farming system is a commonly and broadly used word to explain a more integrated approach to farming as compared to monoculture approaches. AICRP-IFS, Seethampeta, ANGRAU centre implemented on farm research on “on-farm evaluation of farming system modules for improving profitability and livelihood of small and marginal farmers” with financial and technical assistance from Indian Institute of Farming System Research, Modipuram in 12 small and marginal tribal farmers’ households in Seetampeta mandal of Srikkakulam district of Andhra Pradesh objectives of to address critical constraints of small and marginal farm holders for overall improvement of productivity and to increase the profitability of small and marginal households and ensure livelihood. By diversification in all enterprises farmers realized Rs. 62755, 65387, 82235 and 88967 gross returns and Rs.32125, 34117, 47075and 49747 net returns was more than the bench mark Rs.46720, 47856, 58240 and Rs. 62376 with the additional interventions costs of Rs.3770 in 2012-13, 2013-14, 2014-15 and 2015-16, respectively. Further, with integration of enterprises viz., Crops+Poultry, Crops+Dairy and Crops+Poultry+Dairy farmers realized Rs. 65387, 82235and 88967 gross returns and Rs.34117, 47075 and 49747 net returns when compared to crops only i.e., Rs. 62755 and Rs.32125, respectively. The increase income is attributed to increase in income from intervention in paddy crop and ragi crop, feeding of supplement feed to the cattle and also the introduction of Vanaraja and Rajshri back yard poultry birds. In addition to this not only due to diversification of existing enterprises, but also addition of enterprises in farming system modules. Gross income in all farming systems increased when compared to cropping system only. Gross income increased in crop – poultry farming system due to different modules from Rs. 47856/house hold to Rs. 65387/house hold with B: C ratio 2.09 and Gross income increased in crop – dairy farming system due to different modules from Rs. 58240/house hold to Rs. 85235/house hold with B: C ratio 2.23. Interview schedule was constructed, pre-tested and finalized and used for collecting data. From the findings of the study it could be found that the average knowledge of vegetable farmers on recommended technologies was 74.72 per cent. Method of transplanting, recommended variety and HYV, fertilizer application, weed management, mulching and seed treatment practices were known to the farmers ranging from 75 to 90 per cent. Overall adoption level of farmers on technologies was 55.27 per cent. Soil testing, SHC recommendations, growth regulators, mulching, foliar spray, plant protection measures were having low adoption ranging from 40-48 per cent. Rise in fertilizer and pesticide prices, unavailability of timely and quality inputs, lack of knowledge to identify pest and diseases, lack of communication and training cum demonstrations on improved practices were felt by 35-45 per cent of the farmers as constraints for yield gap.
