The legacy kernel TCP stack is not fully satisfactory because it induces the CPU bottleneck on hosts. In this paper, we propose Wireless-RDMA (W-RDMA) that enables RDMA in wireless networks to tackle the CPU bottleneck issue on wireless hosts. The feasibility of W-RDMA is demonstrated through testbed experiments. Technical challenges and future opportunities are further discussed. We believe it is a small but crucial step for enabling RDMA for wireless transmission.","PeriodicalId":275324,"journal":{"name":"2022 IEEE 23rd International Symposium on a World of Wireless, Mobile and Multimedia Networks (WoWMoM)","volume":"49 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125779450","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, the flooding-based technology requires additional management in order to operate efficiently. Consequently, it offers a diverse set of configuration options to control network behavior, including the selection of relays in the backbone that rebroadcast packets further into the network. In the past, Digital Twin technology has been applied to design a Digital Communication Twin (DCT) of a BM network. The DCT (or Digital Twin Network, DTN) can be used to find an optimal network configuration for given application requirements. This includes a relay selection approach that finds a set of relays to assure sufficient path redundancy in the network. However, existing results prove that this approach can be improved in terms of computation time, flexibility and validity of the proposed set of relays. In this paper, we present a reinterpreted version of a genetic algorithm to tackle this issue. The results show it achieves better results on all three improvement targets, compared to the original approach. Furthermore, it showcases the flexibility and adaptability of the DCT whilst adequately improving the relay selection approach.","PeriodicalId":275324,"journal":{"name":"2022 IEEE 23rd International Symposium on a World of Wireless, Mobile and Multimedia Networks (WoWMoM)","volume":"83 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114323873","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Unfortunately, 6TiSCH does not provide mechanisms to manage node mobility, while many industrial applications involve mobile devices (e.g., mobile robots or wearable devices carried by workers). In this paper, we consider the Synchronized Single-hop Multiple Gateway framework to manage mobility in 6TiSCH networks. For this framework, we address the problem of positioning Border Routers in a deployment area, which is similar to the \"Art Gallery\" problem, proposing an efficient deployment policy for Border Routers based on geometrical rules. Moreover, we define a flexible Scheduling Function that can be easily adapted to meet the requirements of various IIoT applications. We analyze the considered Scheduling Function in different scenarios with varying traffic patterns, and define an algorithm for sizing the system in such a way to guarantee the application requirements. Finally, we investigate the impact of mobility on the performance of the system. Our results show that the proposed solutions allow to manage node mobility very effectively, and without significant impact on the performance.","PeriodicalId":275324,"journal":{"name":"2022 IEEE 23rd International Symposium on a World of Wireless, Mobile and Multimedia Networks (WoWMoM)","volume":"7 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126869615","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

They aim to create a continuously synchronized model of the physical system which enables rapid adaptation to dynamics, mainly unpredicted and undesirable changes. A wide range of industrial fields have already benefited from digital twins technology such as aerospace, manufacturing, healthcare, city management and maritime and shipping. Furthermore, recent research works are starting to study the integration of digital twins for computer networks to allow more innovation and intelligent management. One of the basic building blocks of digital twins technology is the Internet of Things where wireless sensors and actuators are deployed to ensure the interaction between the physical and digital worlds. This type of network is complex to manage due to its severe constraints especially when it controls critical industrial applications, resulting in the Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT). We believe that the optimization of the IIoT will lead to efficient integration of Digital Twins in Industry 4.0. In this paper, we design a Network Digital Twin for the IIoT where sensors, actuators and communication infrastructure are replicated in the digital twin to enable intelligent real-time management of such networks. This way, new networking services such as predictive maintenance, network diagnosis, resource allocation, energy optimization with other intelligent services can be efficiently integrated and exploited in the network life-cycle. We validate the proposed architecture by providing a promising prototype implementation that should unleash the full potential of the network digital twin.","PeriodicalId":275324,"journal":{"name":"2022 IEEE 23rd International Symposium on a World of Wireless, Mobile and Multimedia Networks (WoWMoM)","volume":"258 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132024377","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Nowadays, a major concern within industrial plants is to support network-intensive services, such as real-time remote vibration monitoring of autonomous guided vehicles, while ensuring the prompt and reliable delivery of mission-critical safety-related messages among machines and the control room. To this purpose, we present a novel solution jointly orchestrating content-based message management and traffic flow steering: the former enables edge-powered in-network processing modules to process packet payloads as they traverse the industrial backbone, the latter supports dynamic (re)routing of traffic flows towards such processing modules. In particular, we exploit software-defined networking for flexible traffic flow (re)routing and Kubernetes for dynamic deployment on edge nodes of in-network processing modules for content-based message management. As demonstrated by performance results based on our working proof-of-concept prototype, our solution efficiently allows to manage industrial traffic flows in a coordinated fashion, by considering requirements of concurrently running industrial applications and the current state of the overall topology.","PeriodicalId":275324,"journal":{"name":"2022 IEEE 23rd International Symposium on a World of Wireless, Mobile and Multimedia Networks (WoWMoM)","volume":"16 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115965685","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The heterogeneity of IoT use cases usually makes the development of digital twins extremely application-specific as well as prone to interoperability issues. To overcome these two challenges, we propose WoTwins, a framework that, on one side, leverages the W3C Web of Things (WoT) standard to model data and entities, and, on the other side, generates automatically Digital Twins of existing Web Things by modeling their state space through a Markov Decision Process (MDP) graph and by predicting its behavior though Machine Learning techniques. We conduct experiments on a simulated use cases related to IoT robotics to evaluate our proposal.","PeriodicalId":275324,"journal":{"name":"2022 IEEE 23rd International Symposium on a World of Wireless, Mobile and Multimedia Networks (WoWMoM)","volume":"184 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115197409","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Such systems can be used for the next generation of satellite constellations for the purposes of internet-backhauling, while performing scientific functions such as studying atmospheric gases. The fact that the hardware employed for both applications is highly similar, if not identical, opens the possibility of designing a new waveform that can jointly communicate and sense at the same time. In this paper, we explore Differential Absorption Radars (DAR), traditionally used for weather sensing, as a potential candidate to be operated in combination with a Chirp Spread Spectrum (CSS) modulation. We present a scenario with a satellite at Low Earth Orbit (LEO) where the CSS modulation could outperform traditional PSK modulations while making it possible to retrieve water vapor density profiles of the atmosphere with DAR. Performance of both communication and remote sensing applications are studied through simulation.","PeriodicalId":275324,"journal":{"name":"2022 IEEE 23rd International Symposium on a World of Wireless, Mobile and Multimedia Networks (WoWMoM)","volume":"18 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125944479","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

While these alternative paths open up new assignment possibilities between workers and tasks, they also make it more challenging to find a stable or preference-aware task assignment (TA), as they bring a new dimension to the TA problem (i.e., workers/paths/tasks instead of workers/tasks as in previous work), and introduce complex requirements to achieve stability by satisfying user preferences. In this paper, we formally define the stability conditions for three-dimensional task assignments in SO-MCS, and propose two polynomial-time TA algorithms: an exact algorithm for SO-MCS systems with uniform worker qualities, and a c-approximate algorithm for general SO-MCS systems, where c is the number of the acceptable paths of the worker with the largest set of acceptable paths. Through extensive simulations, we demonstrate that the proposed algorithms significantly outperform the state-of-the-art TA algorithms in terms of stability (or user happiness) in most scenarios.","PeriodicalId":275324,"journal":{"name":"2022 IEEE 23rd International Symposium on a World of Wireless, Mobile and Multimedia Networks (WoWMoM)","volume":"40 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121865262","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, these platforms have disadvantages such as poor interactivity, model sensitive and low reality. To solve these problems, a Digital Twin Cyber Platform based on NFV (DTCPN) is proposed in this paper. Firstly, by analyzing the function principles of digital twin and NFV technology, a system model which combines the advantages of digital twin and NFV is proposed. Secondly, the working principle and advantages of DTCPN are presented. Thirdly, the prototype of DTCPN is designed and typical applications of DTCPN in network security, network management and network applications are presented. The evaluation results show that DTCPN works in a way free from network modeling and provide an easy interaction and high reality technology for network innovations.","PeriodicalId":275324,"journal":{"name":"2022 IEEE 23rd International Symposium on a World of Wireless, Mobile and Multimedia Networks (WoWMoM)","volume":"37 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122756384","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
