With the increasing number of cloud services with specialized functionalities, the users are faced with the necessity to routinely perform manual actions to interchange data among different cloud and web services, in order to perform more complex and composite actions. These actions always require a certain amount of dedicated time from the user, who has to change the context in which he work, in order to take the actions and transfer data from one system to another. In this paper, we present a software platform, based on the concepts and technologies of the Semantic Web, which provides the users with a unified and simple composite approach to the different services they use, and crates a simple flow of information from one infrastructure to another. The system is able to automatically discover the context in which the user is working, and offer him the actions which can be used over the data within the context. In this way, the user can completely focus on his tasks in his work environment, and get relevant information and possible actions in that context. This system automates the execution of the users' tasks, which leads to improvements in their productivity, information exchange and efficiency. The system is called \"Semantic Sky\" and represents a platform where many cloud services are interconnected by the use of semantic web technologies.","PeriodicalId":275036,"journal":{"name":"International Conference on Semantic Systems","volume":"77 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-09-05","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123209172","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Therefore, they either do not provide any semantic retrieval, search, browsing functionalities at all on the managed content or the semantic search functionality provided is limited as it depends on the manual annotation of content by users. So, in this study we describe a semantic content management flow by extracting implicit knowledge from both the structure of the CMSes and actual content within them. The task of additional semantic knowledge gathering and providing semantic operations on the content is a challenging task which includes adoption of several latest advancements in information extraction (IE), information retrieval (IR) and Semantic Web areas. In this study, we propose a new approach which provides automatic annotation of content managed in CMSes with the information retrieved from the Linked Open Data (LOD) cloud and several semantic operations on the content in terms of storage and search. We use a simple RDF path language to create custom indexes and retrive semantic knowledge from the LOD cloud suitable for specific use cases. All additional knowledge is materialized along with the actual content of document in dedicated indexes. This semantix indexing infrastructure allows semantically meaningful search facilities on top of it. We realize our approach in the scope of Apache Stanbol project, which is a subproject developed in the scope of IKS project, by focusing on document storage and retrieval. We evaluate our approach in healthcare domain with different domain ontologies (SNOMED/CT, ART, RXNORM) in addition to DBpedia as parts of LOD cloud which are used to annotate documents and content obtained from different health portals.","PeriodicalId":275036,"journal":{"name":"International Conference on Semantic Systems","volume":"64 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-09-05","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128569977","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Various content domains are covered by those datasets, such as Media, Government or Geographic Data, all directly linked to each other building a huge graph of interlinked structured data. However, data describing the mobile network topology including its components and (dynamic) properties (e.g., traffic or number of users in a radio cell) are not semantically available yet in the LOD Cloud.\u0000 Therefore, we propose the OpenMobileNetwork -- a dataset for mobile networks and devices, which is semantically modeled using the Linked Data principles. It provides structured RDF data describing mobile networks, their topology and components (e.g., base stations, mobile devices or WiFi access points). Utilizing this dataset in combination with interlinked information that is present in the LOD Cloud, various applications can be realized that depend on mobile network and positioning data, such as Semantic Location-based Services. In this paper, however, we focus on the realization of a Power Management in Mobile Networks.","PeriodicalId":275036,"journal":{"name":"International Conference on Semantic Systems","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-09-05","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129369416","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this paper, we present a system for semantic annotation of movements in video. This system is based on the temporal segmentation method that extracts the movement objects in still scenes, and on the high-level movement concepts to bridge the semantic gap between such concepts and the low-level video features. We propose a knowledge-based Model of movements in videos by using the OWL ontology and SWRL rules. Our Video Movement Ontology (VMO) considers different concepts related to the relevant movement features, which is based on the semantic of the Benesh Movement Notation (BMN). BMN can describe any form of dance or human movement. Rules in description logic are defined to describe how low-level features and mapping process between those features and ontology's concepts should be applied according to different perception of video content analysis. This system can improve the quality of annotation of movements in the videos and can discover the hidden information by reasoning video knowledge and movement's features.","PeriodicalId":275036,"journal":{"name":"International Conference on Semantic Systems","volume":"52 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-09-05","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134469590","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, this information is publicly accessible and users cannot control how to disclose their personal information. Protecting personal information is deemed important in use cases such as controlling access to sensitive personal information on the Social Semantic Web or even in Linked Open Government Data. The Privacy Preference Ontology (PPO) can be used to define fine-grained privacy preferences to control access to personal information and the Privacy Preference Manager (PPM) can be used to enforce such preferences to determine which specific parts of information can be granted access. However, PPO and PPM require further extensions to create more control when granting access to sensitive data; such as more flexible granularity for defining privacy preferences. In this paper, we (1) extend PPO with new classes and properties to define further fine-grained privacy preferences; (2) provide a new light-weight vocabulary, called the Privacy Preference Manager Ontology (PPMO), to define characteristics about privacy preference managers; and (3) present an extension to PPM to enable further control when publishing and sharing personal information based on the extended PPO and the new vocabulary PPMO. Moreover, the PPM is extended to provide filtering data over SPARQL endpoints.","PeriodicalId":275036,"journal":{"name":"International Conference on Semantic Systems","volume":"158 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-09-05","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122983284","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

We share the view that the Web is becoming a multilingual lexical resource and a distribution infrastructure for knowledge resources. We aim to tap into this for the particular use case of Cross-Language Information Retrieval systems. The SKOS framework allows the description of monolingual or multilingual thesauri, controlled vocabularies and other classification systems in a simple machine-understandable representation. It has support for decentralized distribution on the Web of any resource described with it and includes mechanisms to interconnect different concept schemes. Yet, when building our prototype CLIR system different processes require more than the existing content of a SKOS resource: concept descriptions, labels and basic inter-concept relations. For example the SKOS concept indexing phase entails identifying potential occurrences of a SKOS concept in a text and to disambiguate based on the semantics referenced to in the overall SKOS scheme. By design, the SKOS data model does not formally define semantics of its concepts thus we have built a set of three algorithms that help generate a multilingual dataset linking to the original SKOS dataset and providing more details about the lexical entities that describe concepts. This new dataset contains specific RDF triples that aid concept identification, disambiguation and translation in CLIR.","PeriodicalId":275036,"journal":{"name":"International Conference on Semantic Systems","volume":"79 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-09-05","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115744447","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Semantic web technologies can provide metadata as well as explicit, specific links between the artefacts. However, data acquisition and perceived utility are potential stumbling blocks for adoption. Therefore, we propose a system which is focused on integrating and augmenting existing data (thus protecting the existing investment), and examine it using an interaction-oriented perspective, on users without semantic web experience. Specifically, we first study requirements of the target group and then present an exploratory study of managing research artefacts related to software-centric projects. The results confirm that diverse data sources are in common use, that re-using existing repositories is perceived as efficient (e.g., more convenient, shorter cycle time), and that the experimented aggregates are perceived as functionally relevant. Furthermore, the integration of quality assurance mechanisms, such as continuous integration, is perceived as beneficial, despite some added effort.","PeriodicalId":275036,"journal":{"name":"International Conference on Semantic Systems","volume":"64 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-09-05","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116604585","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Business entities like purchase orders, equipments or customers are represented as business objects in ERP systems. Multiple business objects can span a business object graph by referencing each other. The SAP ERP system provides several interfaces to access business objects. Querying business objects with regard to their positions within a business object graph by using these existing interfaces is not an easy task. In this paper, we propose to use the RDF query language SPARQL to express queries against business object graphs. We argue that SPARQL is well suited to query business objects in ERP systems and introduce an architecture to provide a SPARQL endpoint on top of an SAP ERP system. This novel approach simplifies the retrieval of data from ERP systems and makes it available to the integration with the Semantic Web.","PeriodicalId":275036,"journal":{"name":"International Conference on Semantic Systems","volume":"37 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-09-05","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115241149","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
