We utilize Randers geometry to model the propagation of fire waves, deriving the equations for paths surrounding power transmission lines in a flat terrain during a wildfire outbreak with varying wind patterns. These paths, known as strategic paths, can play a critical role in managing firefighting strategies. By identifying these paths, we can allocate firefighters and resources to specific locations instead of trying to cover a large area. This approach enables us to predict the path of the fire toward the transmission lines, thus reducing the time and cost of firefighting operations. A radioterapia é uma modalidade de tratamento do câncer que consiste no uso de uma fonte de radiação ionizante que destrói o tumor. Em termos de tratamentos mais modernos, a radioterapia com intensidade modulada (IMRT) possibilita a variação de intensidade da fluência da radiação, alcançando uma distribuição de dose com conformidade superior, viabilizando ainda irradiação concomitante de diferentes alvos e doses. Diante disto, o problema de distribuição de doses no planejamento ótimo da IMRT traduz-se em otimizar a dosagem total de radiação aplicada ao paciente, sendo modelado utilizando técnicas de Programação Matemática. A comparison of the dynamics obtained using two different models of a drill-string is made. A structure that is 1200 m long is analysed. In the first model, a two degrees-of-freedom (DOF) approach is used, where 1-axial DOF and 1-torsional DOF are considered. This model has been widely used in the literature. The second model maintains the 1-DOF axial formulation and employs a wave-equation for the torsional part. In both cases, the structural dynamics are coupled with the dynamics of the cutting through the depth-of-cut used in the bit-rock interaction relation. To calculate the previous depth, an advection equation is solved along with the equations of motion. One application case is simulated. The results show that the dynamics differ considerably. This work presents the formulation, verification, and application of an OpenFOAM-based multiphase solver for physical systems with moving and stationary phases. The latter is used to model porous media, allowing for the simulation of multiphase flow processes applied to many areas of science and engineering. The model considers an implicit coupled solution of the phase-fraction equations for an arbitrary number of phases in the system, providing better approximations when compared to the standard segregated solution.
