Many biological parameters and population structure of green tiger prawn; investigated in this study during the fishing season 2022/2023. Seasonal growth in length and weight assessed for males and females by five seasons (ages) life span. The constant of total length-total weight relationship b= 2.50 for males, 2.15 for females, and 2.26 for both . Parameters of theoretical growth in length and weight L∞, K, t0, and W∞ were (22.76 cm, 0.21, -0.89 yr-1, and 94.90 gm for males), (29.32 cm, 0.14, -1.20 yr-1, and136.38 gm for females), and (23.05 cm, 0.2, -0 .89 yr-1, and 79.19 gm for all individuals). Instantaneous mortality rates Z, M, and F were (0.79, 0.43, and 0.36 yr-1 for males), (1.01, 0.42, and 0.59 yr-1 for females), and (0.92, 0.42, and 0.49 yr-1 for both sex). The exploitation rate was 0.46, 0.58, and 0.54 yr-1 for males, females, and all individuals. That indicates the P. semisulcatus population is over exploited in the Lagoon. Accordingly, the recommended procedure for reduction of fishing efforts or changing the mesh sizes of bottom trawl gear must apply.","PeriodicalId":274624,"journal":{"name":"Mediterranean Aquaculture Journal","volume":"41 9","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-01-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139535997","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Fish and fishery products are highly perishable foods that degrade easily during harvesting and processing as a result to a combination of chemical, physical, and microbiological changes. The current study focuses on the changes in the chemical composition, nutritional value freshness indicators, quality features, microbiological safety, and sensory evaluation of fish and fishery products as affected by freezing storage periods. Therefore, this study aims to give a combined overview of the changes that occur to different types of fish and their various products during the process of preservation by freezing, so that it is a collected source for all these changes in one place, in order to facilitate the process of comparing the changes that occur during the freezing process between different types of fish and their products.","PeriodicalId":274624,"journal":{"name":"Mediterranean Aquaculture Journal","volume":"40 10","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-01-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139536004","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In the present study in the nursery Mild EHP was noticed before shifting to the grow-out pond. After shifting to the grow-out pond, very poor growth was noticed in all the ponds, and also heavy size variations were noted. In V5 pond growth was stented due to EHP, and in pond V1 reverse growth was noticed due to size variation. Overall in all ponds, very poor weekly gains of .6 to .9 grams were recorded. In the present study due to slow growth with size variation Pond V4 shrimp were harvested at 136 counts and Pond V2 was harvested at 120 counts. The remaining ponds harvested 133 and 136 counts. So the present study confirms that sometimes the EHP-infected seeds show negative results PCR lab. But after stocking to nursery or growing out EHP infection can expose the middle of the culture also. So better before shifting the seeds to the grow-out pond to confirm through microscopic analysis as well as PCR lab results as free from EHP .","PeriodicalId":274624,"journal":{"name":"Mediterranean Aquaculture Journal","volume":"12 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132825829","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The effect of different phosphorus sources on the growth and biochemical composition of Nannochloropsis oculata ( N. oculata ) was investigated in this study. Four treatments: mono potassium phosphate (KH ₂ PO4), potassium di phosphate (K 2 HPO 4 ), calcium super phosphate (CaH 6 O 9 P 2 ), and media without any phosphorus sources were all compared to F/2 media, which has sodium di hydrogen phosphate (NaH 2 PO 4 ) as a control at a concentration of 36 µmol -1. The experiment lasted for 15 days under the conditions of 100 μmol photons per m2s of light intensity, with a light-to-dark (L/D) ratio of 24:0, a salinity of 25 g/L, temperature maintained at 23± 1 °C, and a pH value of pH 7.5 ±0.3. The growth of N. oculata based on cell density was inhibited in the medium without any phosphorus sources (5.3×106 cell/ mL) and increased significantly in the medium with NaH 2 PO 4 (16.4×106 cell/ mL). All phosphorus sources showed that there were significant differences ( P ≤ 0.05 ) between all treatment media in chlorophyll content; KH ₂ PO 4 achieved the highest significant chlorophyll a content (Chl a) with 4.25 mg/l, followed by K 2 HPO 4 4.12 mg/l. Cells treated with NaH 2 PO 4 produced the highest total protein and lipid content (31.14% and 46.63% by dry weight, respectively). Media without phosphorus had the highest total carbohydrate (22.48%), while the lowest total lipids and total carbohydrate achieved by KH ₂ PO 4 and CaH 6 O 9 P 2 had the lowest total protein (25.90%). Arachidonic acid (C20:4 ω6) recorded its highest value (0.83%) with K 2 HPO 4 . While γ-Linolenic acid (C18:3 ω6) recorded its highest value (1.43%) with NaH2PO4. Whereas eicosapentaenoic acid (C20:5 ω3) was achieved the highest level in NaH 2 PO 4 (9.53%) and CaH 6 O 9 P 2 (0.37%). In conclusion, this study demonstrated the variation of growth, fatty acid profile, and biochemical composition in N. oculata , benefiting the production of microalgae for aquaculture live food.","PeriodicalId":274624,"journal":{"name":"Mediterranean Aquaculture Journal","volume":"13 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116894263","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It is predicted to lead adverse and irreversible implications on the earth. These implications may include increased global temperature, sea level rise, and extreme weather events, which will have direct or indirect impacts on food production systems and global biodiversity. In this context, aquaculture is no exception. This paper discusses potential impacts of climate change on aquaculture and food security in the Nile Delta of Egypt. The assessment considered mainly inundation by sea level rise, heat stress and increasing water salinity due to Sea level rise. Results showed that, the total areas of fish farms that would be vulnerable to inundation, according to the RCP2.6 and RCP8.5 scenarios were found to be about 57176.64 feddan and 63025.95 feddan, respectively. These areas represent 54.35 and 59.92% of the total area of the present fish farms of Kafr El Sheikh Governorate. The combined effects of rising temperatures, sea level and salinities in the study area may result in a number of positive impacts on aquaculture activities such as increased growth rates and food conversion efficiencies of target species, longer growing seasons, reduced cold water mortality and expansion of areas suitable for aquaculture.","PeriodicalId":274624,"journal":{"name":"Mediterranean Aquaculture Journal","volume":"71 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129981463","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The experimental treatments were conducted in a private hatchery. Ten hapas, each with dimensions (28m 3 ) were used to accomplish this work. Brood-stock was randomly stocked in each hapa with a sex ratio (1 male: 3 females, i.e.15 males: 45 females). The initial average weight of males and females were 194±10g and 185±15 g, respectively. Five experimental diets were formulated and applied on the two experiments as follows: control: brood-stock and fry fed a diet without germinated corn, T1, T2, T3, and T4: fish were fed diets containing different levels of germinated corn meal (1, 2, 3, and 4%, respectively). Statistical analysis showed that fish-fed diets containing 2% Sprouted corn were significantly better in growth performance, feeding utilization indices (HSI, VSI, GSI and condition Factors) and hatching indices (number of fry produced and survival of larvae) in comparison with other treatments. Besides blood hematological and biochemical parameters, fish that were fed with dietary germinated corn had the best results compared to control treatment. Thus, it is recommended that the inclusion of 2% germinated corn meal (T2) as feed additives for tilapia brood-stock is more useful for improving their growth performance, feed utilization, and reproductive performance.","PeriodicalId":274624,"journal":{"name":"Mediterranean Aquaculture Journal","volume":"58 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"117296010","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
