Mindi mostly cultivated in a community forest, especially in West Java. This study was aimed to assess the growth performance and genetic parameter of the progeny test of mindi at Parungpanjang Forest Research Station, Bogor, West Java. The progeny test was established by using a randomized complete block design, consisting of 6 blocks and 73 families and each family consisting of 4 trees row-plot. The survival at 7 years old was 57.48%, height was 7.15 m and diameter is 8.59 cm, in average. The height and diameter growths among families showed a significantly different. The best family growth in height and diameter were Sumedang-31 and Bogor-18 families, respectively.The individual and family heritabilities for both stem diameter and tree heght characters were stil relatively low, with the higher family heritability value than individual heritability. This study aims to determine the seed treatment and land preparation in direct seeding of A. crassicarpa seeds. The research was conducted in Parungpanjang, Bogor with a three-factor factorial randomized design, i.e. environmental conditions (A1=under the stand, A2=open area), seed treatment (B1=untreated, B2=soaked in hot water and allowed to cool for 24 hours), and sowing technique (C1=sowing on the soil surface without cleaning, C2=sowing on the soil surface of the cleared and loosened land, C3=sowing with 2-3 cm immerses on the cleared and loosened land). The results showed that seedlings under the stand tended to have better height growth (14.8 cm) compared to seedlings in open area (11.2 cm), as well as for seedlings diameter (under the stand 0.14 cm; in open area 0.11 cm). The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of tofu's liquid waste and cow's urine on the growth of lamtoro seedlings at aged 6 weeks until 14 weeks. The treatments consisted of control, tofu’s liquid waste (30% and 40%), and cow’s urine (50%, 60% and 70%). Treatment was given every 2 weeks. Parameters observed were height, diameter, number of leaves, biomass, toughness, shoot root ratio, seedling quality index and chlorophyll content. The results showed that 30% and 40% of tofu’s liquid waste had a significant effect on increasing the height growth at 6 weeks and 8 weeks old seedling. The 70% cow’s urine has a significant effect on increasing the height growth at 6 weeks until 12 weeks old seedling. To maintain high seed viability, it is necessary to know the handling of seeds and control of seed-borne diseases during storage. The purpose of this study was to determine the method of the effective technique to control the seed-borne diseases of binuang bini during seed storage. The techniques for Seed disease kontrol methods in seed storage are carried out using chemical and natural fungicide. The results showed that the pure live seed was influenced by a single factor of fungicide and storage room, interactions between fungicides and storage room, interactions between fungicides and storage periods as well as interactions between fungicides and storage space and storage periods. Moreover, seed quality is an important factor for generative propagation of loquat. Based on field observation, there was variation on seed size of loquat. Therefore, this research aimed to determine the effect of seed size on the germination and seedling growth of loquat. This research was compiled using a Randomized Complete Design with four different seed groups as treatments. The loquat seeds were obtained from Danau Toba region and grouped based on the weight of seeds, i.e. Grade I (<0.6 g), Grade II (0.6 - <0.9 g), Grade III (0.9 - 1.2 g) and Grade IV (> 1.2 g). Percentage of germination, abnormal seedling, plant height, number of leaves, stem diameter, root length, fresh and dry weight of plant were observed during experiment. The results showed that seed size affected all the observed parameters, except the roots length. This movement requires the quality forest tree seed supply, thus requiring research to determine an integrated and systematic strategy for developing forest tree seed programs in South Kalimantan in the next 10 years. SWOT analysis (strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, threats) with the analytical hierarchy process approach is used to determine the planning strategy. The results of the analysis show that the position of forest tree seed implementation programs is in an investment position, which shows a big opportunity but still has internal constraints/weaknesses. Weakness-opportunities strategies were chosen with 6 programs, i.e.: increasing the human resources competence; construction of facilities and infrastructure for seeds and seedlings certification; organizing certification of seed sources, seedling quality and seed quality; development of superior seed sources; strengthening of quality seed and seed production systems; and the provision of technological information, documentation and supervision systems of the seed and seedling distribution. ABSTRACT Hibiscus macrophyllus, an important tropical tree, have high economic potential, however there are the problems in seedling procurement, i.e. seed dormancy and seed-borne pathogen. The purpose of the research was to evaluate the effect of sodium bicarbonate and acetic acid on the fungal colonization, seed germination, and seedling growth of H. macrophyllus . A completely randomized design was used to test the six treatments: (i) untreated seed, (ii) soaking seeds in boiling water and left 24 hours, (iii) soaking in boiling water and left 24 hours followed by soaking in acetic acid 1% (15 minutes), (iv) soaking in boiling water and left 24 hours followed by soaking in sodium bicarbonate 5% (15 minutes), (v) soaking in acetic acid 1% (15 minutes) followed by soaking in boiling water and left 24 hours, and (vi) soaking in sodium bicarbonate 5% (15 minutes) followed by soaking in boiling water and left 24 hours. Soaking in sodium bicarbonate 5% (15 minutes) followed by soaking in boiling water and left 24 hours could significantly decrease the fungal colonization. Sodium bicarbonate 5% and acetic acid 1% treatments could not improve seed germination. Tissue culture is one multiplication method to get seeds in large quantities . One factors that support the success of reproduction is the health of the plant material. The purpose of the study is to determine the influence of pre-sterilization treatments towards the successful initiation of sengon organogenesis. The research method was done by spraying the seedlings with Pyraclostrobin 50 g.kg -1 + Metiram 550 g.kg -1 of 2,500 ppm every week for 3 months. Each explant was grown on MS medium. The observation was carried out done every 1 week for 12 weeks, including the amount of contamination (bacteria, fungi), browning and the appearance of buds, roots and callus. Data were analyzed by t-test. The next stage is multiplication by using treatments of 24D 0.1 mM, 24D 0.5 mM, BAP 0.5 mM, BAP 2 mM, K 0.1 mM, K 0.5 mM, TDZ 0.1 mM, TDZ 0, 5 mM, and control. Completely randomized design was used and analyzed by using one way ANOVA, and tested with Duncan for the differences at 0,05 significant level. The results showed that pra-sterilization treatment was capable of supporting the successful initiation of sengon shoots characterized by low levels of contamination, increased number of callus and number of sengon shoots explants. One factor that determines the success of the development of this plant is the use of superior quality seeds. Good seeds can be obtained by harvesting physiologically mature fruits. One common indicator often used to determine the maturity of fruit physiologically is the changes of fruit color. The main objective of this research was to determine the effect of seed collection time and fruit  color on the germination capacity and seedling growth of mindi.  The experimental design used is Factorial Randomized Block Design consist of 2 factors: seed collection time and  fruit color.  Seed collection time consist of 3 times with 10 days collection time interval.  The color fruit differed by 3 colors: green, yellow and brown.   Each combination treatment consist of 50 seeds replicated 5 times.  Growth responses included germination capacity, survival seedling percentage, seedling length, diameter, root length, dry weight and shoot/root ratio.  The result showed that the color  fruit significantly affected germination capacity and growth of seedlings.   The color of yellow and brown fruit g ave the best results for germination ’s capacity, while yellow fruits showed high values of percent of seedlings grow th , seedling height, dry weight, root length and shoots root ratio . T he color of green and yellow fruit gave higher  seedling diameter, than the color of brown fruit. This study aims to know the effect of rooting and media acclimatization on the growth of tembesu plantlets in vitro cultures. Two experiments were conducted, these were (1) rooting (in vitro and ex vitro), and (2) type of acclimatization media ( 100% sand, cocopeat + rice husk, sand + cocopeat , sand, rice husk, and sand + cocopeat + rice husk). Based on the data analysis rooting significantly affects the variables growth (percentage of survival and the number of roots) at the acclimatization stage of tembesu. The percentage of planlets survival in the acclimatization are 80percent for in vitro rooting and 75percent for ex vitro rooting, while on stage after acclimatization percentage of survival are 75 percent for in vitro rooting and 67 percent for ex vitrorooting. In vitro rooting have a better growth than ex vitro rooting, but the plants grown from ex vitro rooting are more resistant to stress.
