Lons’kа","doi":"10.31651/2076-5770-2018-2-46-52","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.31651/2076-5770-2018-2-46-52","url":null,"abstract":"Introduction. When the theory of valency was accepted in the Ukrainian grammar, the problems of predicate investigation became actual. One of the problems is predicate speechcreative potential, which is connected with its valency abilities. The core of locative verbs-predicated is the verb \"to stand\", which has great grammatical and semanticpotential and significant speechcreative abilities. This predicate forms semantic and syntactic structure of two-part sentences with locative verbs. The verb \"to stand\" indicates vertical position of somebody or something; it also has the meaning of general being, existence and it functions as a predicate of the sentences of being. Purpose. The aim of the article is to analyse semantic and syntactic aspects of sentences with the predicate \"to stand\". The article also aims at investigating its contexual meanings, and to single out structural models of sentences with the predicate \"to stand\", and to describe their morphological and syntactic realizations. Investigation Methods. The main investigation method is the structural one. It is realized through the method of distributional analysis determined by the valency potential of the predicate \"to stand\". The article also uses the modeling method, which means to single out structural and semantic models of two-part sentences with the predicate \"to stand\". The Main Investigation Results. The article gives possibility to use the investigation results for the analysis of any structural and semantic variants of two-part sentences taking into consideration the semantic types of the predicate. Scientific Novelty. The article analyses one of locative predicates which indicatesa position in space, and which acquires the semantics of being in certain syntagmatic conditions. The author also singles out and analyses structural and semantic sentence models taking into consideration semantic and syntactic valency of the predicate \"to stand\". Conclusions and Perspectives of Further Investigations . The article takes into consideration the wide range of valency characteristics of the verb; it describes the semantics of the verb-predicate as one of most important factors of forming semantic and syntactic sentence structure. The verb \"to stand\" realizes its divalency in most cases, seldom it realizes its uni-valency. It is able in certain syntagmatic conditions to mean existence and to have semantics of being. The formation of structural models with the verb-predicate \"to stand\" is determined by its valency, by the type of the actualization of the predicate valency, and by communication aims of utterances. The perspective of further investigations can be determined by structural and semantic analysis of the two-part sentences of being with other predicates.","PeriodicalId":273230,"journal":{"name":"CHERKASY UNIVERSITY BULLETIN: PHILOLOGICAL SCIENCES","volume":"23 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-03-02","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132373487","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The article deals with the information conveying in the process of translation. The author gives account of various techniques and means of communicating denotative information. Purpose . The author also analyzes different types of denotative information and methods of its conveying by an example of Ukrainian translations of original English and Russian literary texts. Results . Denotative (logical, conceptual, semantic) information includes propositional content, which is characterized by verity and is expressed through words in their direct meanings, and associative-metaphorical content, which is generated through mapping across conceptual domains based on analogy, synaesthesia, figurative perception of an object. The use of full equivalents for conveying propositional information is preferable, but not always possible in translation, thus various transformations are often applied. Those include synonymic, coreferential hyper-hyponymic, hypo-hyperonymic, equonymic, partonymic, holonymic and metonymic transformations etc. Translators use the techniques of re-metaphorization, de-metaphorization and trans-metaphorization to convey associative-metaphorical information into another language. Conclusion. The analysis of key features and methods of conveying of different types of information from the original text into its translation is considered significant for conducting the follow-up research.","PeriodicalId":273230,"journal":{"name":"CHERKASY UNIVERSITY BULLETIN: PHILOLOGICAL SCIENCES","volume":"9 5 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-03-02","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126034891","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Kykot, Yuliia Opanasenko","doi":"10.31651/2076-5770-2018-2-22-35","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.31651/2076-5770-2018-2-22-35","url":null,"abstract":"Introduction. The article deals with author’s individual writing style translation as one of the problems of modern translation studies. Aiming to identify the factors that influence the quality of individual author’s style rendering a literary text is considered to bear its author views, concepts, experience, value principles and guidelines, other individuality features that are genetically, culturally and socially determined. The phenomena of author’s individual style is defined as a system of content and form lingual-image characteristics of the works of one author who implements his own lingual-aesthetic impressions in a unique way. Purpose. The present paper aims to investigate original would-be-translated individual style of an author as his lingual personality and individualized speech of his personages through the prism of their reconstruction in translation process as well as to prove the necessity of scientific approach to practical translation and reveal the factors that make an impact on its adequacy. Methods. The multi-faceted and complex nature of author’s individual writing style, the diversity of its linguistic realizations and the aims set above have determined it necessary to employ translatological method being a complex of methods and techniques of analysis. Results . Major attention in the article is focused on creativity principles and functional tendency of the author’s worldview word representation as the most important basement for individual writing style research. Basing on those principles author’s individual style translation strategies are subordinated to the aim of adaptation to the style of the literary piece being translated. And to reach stylistic balance of source and target texts an absolute equal stylistic value of original literary work should be preserved in translation. The strategic essence of literary translation is viewed here through the light of work structure transformation and literary translation process is considered to be the work image-stylistic structure reimplementation by the target language means through the structure image components, linguistic and extra linguistic contextual relationship reconstruction. Originality. The originality of the present article is seen in the generalized research of essentials that form individual writing style of the source work author and the problem of its reproduction in translation as well as in identifying factors that make an impact on the translation adequacy. Conclusion . Profound analysis of all the composites of the image-stylistic structure of the source literary work as well as their reimplementation within the limits of this structure by the target language means provided compulsory reconstruction of their linguistic and extra linguistic contextual relationships may endow with full value stylistically equal translation which is always dependent on adequate rendering of the author individual writing style as a whole.","PeriodicalId":273230,"journal":{"name":"CHERKASY UNIVERSITY BULLETIN: PHILOLOGICAL SCIENCES","volume":"29 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-03-02","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114320434","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This article explains the peculiarities of the content constructing of the political media discourse of the Russian Internet resource sputniknews.com for September 2016, represented by English-language political media texts about events in Ukraine. Purpose . The purpose of the article is to disclose peculiarities of the content constructing of the political media discourse in question via the analysis of the cognitive plane of its objectification. Results . The article holds that the political media discourse is a complex phenomenon that has three planes of its objectification: cognitive, pragmatic, and communicative (linguistic). The analysis of its cognitive plane accomplished as the analysis of the content of its political media texts enables to disclose peculiarities of their content constructing. The article proves that this constructing is typically based on a purposeful manipulation of information on behalf of the message author (sender). It is done in different ways and by various means – by faking facts, by their partial distortion, by a shift within the concept semantic field, by the concept simplification, and by stereotyping. The very form of facts presentation also contributes to information distortion – it can be statement, repetition, fragmentation, breaking news, sensation, and non-alternativity (of information source or of view point). Such а content constructing, typical of the analyzed political media texts, enables the message author (sender) to present concrete facts, political events and the very social reality in the right light, suggesting or imposing on the message recipient a certain (necessary) understanding of what is perceived. Originality . Originality of this article is provided by a complex approach to the analysis of the political media discourse. The article contributes to the discourse analysis, in particular to the studies of its cognitive and linguistic-cognitive characteristics. The perspective of the problem under discussion can be seen in the analysis of interrelated pragmatic and communicative (linguistic) planes of the political media discourse objectification. Conclusion. Thus, according to the obtained data, the content constructing of English-language political media texts about events in Ukraine, which represent the political media discourse of the Russian Internet resource sputniknews.com for September 2016, is typically based on manipulation of information. Accomplished by the message author (sender) in different ways and by various means, manipulation of information results in various interpretations of concrete facts, political events and social reality with the purpose to suggest or impose on the message recipient a certain (necessary) understanding, which is, in fact, a manipulative impact on public consciousness.","PeriodicalId":273230,"journal":{"name":"CHERKASY UNIVERSITY BULLETIN: PHILOLOGICAL SCIENCES","volume":"10 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-03-02","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116939991","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
