It has been a global challenge that threatens public health and has led to the implementation of strict social isolation measures. As a consequence of the health emergency, there has been a significant reduction in healthcare activity and has jeopardized access to and continuity of contraceptive methods, thus exposing women to the risk of unintended pregnancies. Sexual and reproductive rights are essential and must always be guaranteed.","PeriodicalId":272684,"journal":{"name":"Endocrinology&Metabolism International Journal","volume":"192 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-10-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121104993","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Its life-threatening condition that mandates prompt diagnosis and urgent treatment and may be neurosurgical intervention. Majority of cases are attributed to ischemic infarction or hemorrhage of the pituitary gland usually in the vicinity of pituitary adenoma, and in most cases could be the initial manifestation of these tumors! In reviewing the literatures there is conflicting evidence of which are the predominant, non-functional, or functional adenomas, some reports were showed that prolactin-secreting are at highest risk. There are recognizable risk factors that might precipitate this endocrine emergency like hypertension, medications, major surgery, head injury, radiation, or dynamic testing, but in majority of cases at presentation no identifiable risk factor could be detected. The typical clinical scenario includes persistent worsening headache, vomiting, and altered level of consciousness, visual defect or loss with extreme hormonal derangements which are shown by hemodynamic instability, adrenal crises with variable hormonal deficiencies.","PeriodicalId":272684,"journal":{"name":"Endocrinology&Metabolism International Journal","volume":"378 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-09-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126720621","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Objective: In this review, we will explore the current evidence surrounding the interactions of endocrine conditions and possible treatment targets. Methods: we reviewed the Medline, EMBASE and LiLACS databases using the keywords “COVID-19” or “SARS-CoV-2”, crossing them with the keywords “Obesity”, “Diabetes Mellitus”, “Vitamin D”, “ Estradiol ”,“ Testosterone ”,“ Male ”and“ Female ”; we will describe the results found in a narrative way. Results: The association of diabetes mellitus, obesity and worse prognosis of people infected with the SARS-CoV-2 virus, as well as the gender dimorphism of severity and the role of vitamin D deficiency will all be described. Conclusion: There is a riddle involving SARS-CoV-2 infection, intrinsic risk factors of the host, as well as the immune response to the infection, which is still in the solution phase; a better understanding of such mechanisms can lead to the development of highly effective treatment, as well as policies of social isolation.","PeriodicalId":272684,"journal":{"name":"Endocrinology&Metabolism International Journal","volume":"15 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-08-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133941226","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Cesarean deliveries were initially performed to separate the mother and the fetus in an attempt to save the fetus of a moribund patient. Access to nonmedical interventions during labor, such as continuous support during labor and delivery, should be increased. The safe practice during cesarean can provide the protection from infection. Objective:To compare the outcome with changing gloves intra-operatively by entire team versus standard practice (no changing gloves) during cesarean section Material & methods: study design:Randomized controlled trial. Setting:Department of Obstetrics & Gynaecology, Shalamar Hospital Lahore for 6months. Data collection:After meeting the inclusion criteria 160females were enrolled. Then females were randomly divided into two groups. Group A females operated with changing gloves of entire team and group B operated with no changing gloves. During ward follow-up, females were evaluated for febrile morbidity. At the time of stiches removal wound infection was observed. All the collected data was entered and analyzed on SPSS version 21. Results:The mean age of females was 29.06±6.79years, the mean gestational age at delivery was 38.88±1.47weeks. In changing gloves group the wound infection was found in 4(5.0%) females while in no changing gloves group the wound infection was found in 15(18.8%) females (p-value=0.013). Conclusion:The adopting changing gloves practice by entire team during cesarean section showed better outcome in terms of wound infection and febrile morbidity than no changing glove practice.","PeriodicalId":272684,"journal":{"name":"Endocrinology&Metabolism International Journal","volume":"67 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-07-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126034081","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The effect of water overload on weight loss can not only be attributed to an early feeling of satiety but also increases the energy expenditure. Boshmann et al,5 observed that drinking 500ml of water increases metabolic rate by 30% in both women and men, they calculate that increasing water ingestion by 1.5liters would increase daily energy expenditure by approximately 200Kj. They estimated that over 1yr energy expenditure would increase by 73,000Kj (17,400Kcal), the energy content of 2.4Kg adipose tissue. The fact that the treatment with beta-adrenoreceptor blocker agents substantially attenuated the water-induced increase in metabolic rate suggested that increase in metabolic rate with water is related to sympathetic activation and increased stimulation of beta-adrenergic receptors. Another study by the same group of researchers,6 exclude volumerelated effects or gastric distension as the mediator of the thermogenic response to water drinking, they hypothesize the existence of a portal osmoreceptor, most likely an ion channel.","PeriodicalId":272684,"journal":{"name":"Endocrinology&Metabolism International Journal","volume":"10 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-06-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114183777","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Design, setting, and participants: The data of 157,459 adolescents were collected through “the Patient Cohort Explorer” system at the University of Mississippi Medical Center (UMMC) from January 2013 to December 2019.Unidentified patients were searched with diagnosis code for PCOS, age, race/ethnicity, and associated diagnosis including weight gain, anxiety, depression, ADHD, and behavioral concerns. Interventions: None. Main outcome measures: Prevalence of PCOS and psychological disorders. Results: A total of 712 adolescents with PCOS were diagnosed in clinics during the period of study. Collected data indicated that prevalence of PCOS in adolescents seen in clinics was less than 1% with no significant difference by race or ethnicity. Almost 45% of patients suffered from one or more psychological disorders. (Anxiety: 18%, Depression: 16%, ADHD: 9%). Conclusions: Results from this study provide the first evidence of prevalence of PCOS and psychological disorders in adolescents with PCOS in a southern state. Our findings of a high prevalence of psychological disorders suggest that early screening for mental health symptoms must be considered during primary care clinical assessment of adolescents with PCOS. Left undiagnosed and/or untreated, chronic anxiety and depression may exacerbate mental health issues in this vulnerable population.","PeriodicalId":272684,"journal":{"name":"Endocrinology&Metabolism International Journal","volume":"13 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-06-29","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122456491","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

DM is usually accompanied by hypomagnesemia. This study was aimed at investigating the effect of oral magnesium supplementation on pancreatic gene expression of insulin and PDX-1 in type-2 streptozotocin-nicotinamide induced Sprague dawley diabetic rats. A total of 24Sprague dawleyrats (Four groups of six rats each), were used for this study; Group 1: Normal rats (CONTROL) given distilled water for 4weeks; Group 2: Metformin + Magnesium treated rats (DMM) orally given 100mg/kg and 1000mg/kg body weight respectively for 4weeks; Group 3: Metformin treated diabetic rats (DM), orally given 100mg/kg body weight for 4weeks; Group 4: Diabetic untreated control rats (DU) given distilled water for 4weeks. Measured data were analyzed statistically. The result revealed that there was significant (p<0.05) increase in the feed and water intake of the treated rats but the metformin-magnesium supplement treated group showed more increase when compared with only metformin treated group. PDX-1 and insulin gene expression levels were significantly (p<0.05) higher in the control when compared with all the diabetic groups. However, PDX-1 and insulin mRNA levels were significantly (p<0.05) higher in DMM, when compared with DM. DMM showed improvements when compared with DM which suggests magnesium supplementation as an adjunct therapy with metformin may help inthe regeneration of the beta cells of the pancreas.","PeriodicalId":272684,"journal":{"name":"Endocrinology&Metabolism International Journal","volume":"3 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-05-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130866982","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
