By finding the so-called `worst point' of the curve and subdividing the curve at the corresponding parameter value, we got two Bezier curves. Let the two curves have weights that are proportional to their approximate arc-lengths. Then we repeatedly do the same to the newly generated Bezier curves and finally we can get a piecewise Bezier curve. By means of knot inserting technique we convert it into such a curve that has the B-spline form. Now this new curve has a global parameter and in the interval of which each Bezier curve will have a parameter sub-interval of length proportional to its weight. Thus we get a curve with approximate arc-length parameterization","PeriodicalId":272580,"journal":{"name":"2006 7th International Conference on Computer-Aided Industrial Design and Conceptual Design","volume":"51 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2006-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121922246","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Subvoxel accuracy is achieved by locating the zeros of the 3D second directional derivative along the estimated gradient direction. For that regards the product design field, designers have multiple ways for communicating their ideas and concepts. One of them concerns the model making activity, where designers make explicit their concepts by using some appropriate tools and specific hand movements on plastic material with the intent of obtaining a shape. Some studies have demonstrated that visual, tactile and kinesthetic feedbacks are equally important in the shape creation and evaluation process. Moreover current computer aided tools aimed at supporting the conceptual phase of product design are not intuitive to use, and do not exploit designers' skill and creativity. This paper presents the results of a research work aiming at integrating user-friendly and effective ways of interaction based on ad-hoc haptic interfaces into free-form shape modeling systems. The European project \"Touch and Design\" (T'nD) proposes the implementation of an innovative virtual clay modeling system based on novel haptic interaction modality oriented to industrial designers. In order to develop an intuitive and easy-to-use system, a study of designers' hand modeling activities has been carried out by the project industrial partners supported by cognitive psychologists. The users' manual operators and tools have been translated into corresponding haptic tools and multimodal interaction modalities in the virtual free-form shape modeling system. Flooding is the basic method of searching in unstructured P2P networks however the blind flooding based search mechanism causes a large volume of unnecessary traffic, and greatly limits the performance of P2P systems. Our study shows that a large amount of unwanted traffic is divinable and can be avoided while searching in P2P networks. Aiming at reducing the volume of unnecessary traffic, an unnecessary message prediction based searching mechanism (UMPS) is proposed. UMPS is a pure distributed scheme, it is based on the distributed neighbor list where neighbors within two hops are stored in. UMPS cuts down unwanted traffic by terminating unnecessary flooding that has been predicted in advance, and the techniques related to distributed neighbor list are also discussed. Simulation results show that more than 60% unnecessary messages can be reduced by UMPS, and the query coverage range is retained at the same time, and more unwanted messages can be reduced if a peer has larger degree, therefore load balancing is achieved also. Simulations also reveal that the effectiveness of UMPS is positive correlation with clustering coefficient of network","PeriodicalId":272580,"journal":{"name":"2006 7th International Conference on Computer-Aided Industrial Design and Conceptual Design","volume":"29 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2006-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131431729","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
