Because of recent concerns about non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs). Today, there is a great tendency to use complementary and alternative medicine (CAM), for the relief of dysmenorrhea such as Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation (TENS). Objective: Explore the effect of Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation (TENS) on menstrual symptoms among adolescent girls. Setting: The study was conducted at Technical Institute of Nursing named “Dar Ismail” affiliated to the Ministry of Health and Population in Alexandria city. Subjects: The sample comprised 100 eligible female students who were suffering from moderate to severe primary dysmenorrhea. They were assigned equally into 2 groups: study group and control group. Tools: Three tools were validated and used for data collection; Students’ Basic Data Structured Interview Schedule, Visual Analogue Pain Intensity Scale, and Menstrual Symptom Questionnaire. Results: The main study findings show that, before intervention there was no statistically significant difference between the study and control groups regarding the severity of primary dysmenorrhea and its associated symptoms. Yet, students who received TENS application showed significantly reduction on the severity of dysmenorrhea pain (P<0.004& p=0.009& p=0.047) as well as daily life activities than control group, after intervention. On the other hand the severity of nausea /vomiting, dizziness/ tired were significantly improved among study than control group at first and third day of intervention (P< P<0.043& p=0.001) & (P<0.001, p=0.040) & (P<0.004& p=0.003). As same as, depression and loss of interest after one hour at first and third day of intervention between study and control group. Conclusion: It was concluded that TENS application is effective in alleviating menstrual pain and its related symptoms. Recommendations: It is important to have safe TENS therapies for the relief of menstrual problems.","PeriodicalId":272061,"journal":{"name":"Alexandria Scientific Nursing Journal","volume":"41 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-07-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125769039","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Implementation of respiratory rehabilitation nursing interventions is crucial in the management of AECOPD in geriatric patients. Objective: Determine the effect of respiratory rehabilitation nursing interventions on acute exacerbation symptoms of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease among hospitalized geriatric patients. Setting: Two units; the respiratory disorders unit and the geriatric medicine unit affiliated to the Main University Hospital in Alexandria, Egypt. Subjects: A purposive sampling of fifty (50) geriatric patients with AECOPD was recruited. The selected subjects were divided into two equally matched groups; one study group and one control group. Tools: Six tools were used for data collection: Short Portable Mental Status Questionnaire (SPMSQ), Geriatric Depression Scale Short-Form (GDS-SF), Socio-demographic and Clinical Data of Hospitalized Geriatric Patients with AECOPD Structured Interview Schedule, The Simplified Cough Score (SCS), The Modified Borg Scale for Perceived Dyspnea, and 1-Minute Sit-to-Stand (1MSTS) Test. Results: After the implementation of the proposed nursing interventions, a statistically significant improvement was observed in all acute exacerbation symptoms of COPD among the subjects in the study group when compared to the control group who received routine hospital care only. Greater and more positive effect size was detected on the severity of dyspnea than the severity of other AECOPD in the study group. Conclusion: The proposed respiratory rehabilitation nursing interventions proved to be effective in reducing the severity of AECOPD symptoms among hospitalized geriatric patients. Recommendations: It is critical for geriatric patients with AECOPD to receive respiratory rehabilitation nursing interventions as soon as possible in order to reduce the severity of associated symptoms. This is through educating geriatric COPD patients and their families on preventative measures to avoid the occurrence of AECOPD. This can be accomplished by well-trained nurses in different clinical settings.","PeriodicalId":272061,"journal":{"name":"Alexandria Scientific Nursing Journal","volume":"26 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-07-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134573815","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Globally preeclampsia is responsible for 76,000 maternal and 500,000 fetal deaths each year. In developing countries around 40,000 women die each year due to PE or eclampsia. PE alone is estimated to account for about 40% to 60% of all maternal deaths (Von-Dadelszen & Magee, 2016; WHO, 2015) In Egypt, the prevalence of preeclampsia was 6% to 8% of all pregnancies (WHO, 2015). Objective: Evaluate the effect of Benson's relaxation therapy on stress and physiological parameters among women with preeclampsia. Setting: The study was conducted in preeclampsia unit at El-Shatby Maternity Hospital. Subjects: A convenience sample of 80 pregnant women attending the previously mentioned setting. Tools: Three tools were used for data collection. The first tool was Women’ Basic Data Structured Interview Schedule to identify data related to women’ personal and socio-demographic characteristics and reproductive history. The second tool was Physiological Parameters Sheet to assess vital signs. The third tool was Cohen's Perceived Stress Scale Short Version (PSS-10) to measure subjects' level of stress. Results: The study results revealed a highly statistically significant difference between the studied groups in relation to decrease their stress level (P=0.000*) and maintaining physiological parameters (blood pressure value, pulse rate & respiratory rate) within normal ranges (P=0.000*). Conclusion: Benson relaxation can be used as an effective intervention to decrease stress level and improve the physiological parameters among pre-eclamptic women. Recommendations: Benson relaxation technique is an effective intervention for pre-eclamptic women and thus should be included in the nursing care plan of this group of pregnant women.","PeriodicalId":272061,"journal":{"name":"Alexandria Scientific Nursing Journal","volume":"4 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-07-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114755146","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
