The hybrid systems studied combine well known space time codes and full multiplexing schemes. A decoding procedure for the hybrid systems using linear combinatorial nulling and symbol cancellation is also presented. Through computer simulation upon different digital modulation constellations, the error performance and spectral efficiency of the hybrid systems are compared to the diversity-only and multiplexing-only schemes.","PeriodicalId":271294,"journal":{"name":"2006 International Telecommunications Symposium","volume":"17 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2006-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121796438","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

One of the most representative AQM scheme is analyzed through extensive simulation and its effect on the perceived quality of voice calls is evaluated. Different network scenarios, changing network loads and different scheme control parameters are investigated. Network impairments are related to user perception by means of well known algorithmic models, expressing user satisfaction in the MOS scale. The main results obtained show that the use of active queue management schemes like adaptive random early detection (ARED) significantly improve the perceived quality of voice calls.","PeriodicalId":271294,"journal":{"name":"2006 International Telecommunications Symposium","volume":"3 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2006-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131043735","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this paper we propose a finite impulse response (FIR) channel identification method based on the Parafac decomposition of a 3rd-order tensor composed of the 4-th order output cumulants. By avoiding the prewhitening operation required by joint-diagonalization based methods, our method is shown to improve the estimation performance provided by the classic joint-diagonalization algorithm.","PeriodicalId":271294,"journal":{"name":"2006 International Telecommunications Symposium","volume":"18 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2006-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134504388","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The four wave mixing effect is taken into account by using a formulation that calculates the fiber noise figure for each wavelength. We obtain the distributions of wavelengths from a genetic algorithm, which considers the quality of service criterion based on bit error rate. We show that our strategy is capable of determining assignments of wavelength that minimizes the impact of the four wave mixing effect. We also analyze the performance of our proposed genetic algorithm.","PeriodicalId":271294,"journal":{"name":"2006 International Telecommunications Symposium","volume":"294 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2006-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134328868","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In order to guarantee the quality of services provided by these solutions, experimental analysis plays a key role. This article presents an evaluation of a solution to provide voice services for users with mobile devices based on the Internet. We also consider a scenario with different wireless network technologies, more specifically Bluetooth and Wi-Fi. The experimental results were obtained based on a functional mobile VoIP infrastructure, named M-VoIP. It was recently proposed that every basic wavelet could be associated with a proper probability density, allowing defining the entropy of a wavelet. Introducing now the concept of wavelet mutual information between a signal and an analysing wavelet fulfils the foundations of a wavelet information theory (WIT). Both continuous and discrete time signals are considered. Finally, we showed how to compute the information provided by a multiresolution analysis by means of the inhomogeneous wavelet expansion. Highlighting ideas behind the WIT are presented.","PeriodicalId":271294,"journal":{"name":"2006 International Telecommunications Symposium","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2006-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130572869","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, through a careful choice of a control flow, a performance inference about flow aggregate individuals can be achieved. Computer simulations with synthetic VoIP traffic allow us to establish a method that relates delay and delay jitter metrics of a reference flow to infer about individual performance of flows belonging to the same DiffServ class aggregate. The evaluation was carried out for homogeneous flow aggregates (flows generated by the same voice codec) as well as non-homogeneous (several codecs). Extensive simulations and statistical analysis allowed us to conclude about the control flow characterization, its accuracy to represent the performance of individual flows of the aggregate and the impact of the VoIP traffic models over the achieved results.","PeriodicalId":271294,"journal":{"name":"2006 International Telecommunications Symposium","volume":"34 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2006-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132588457","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
