It provides a high-level reflective rule language, rich modelling tools and a clear semantics of dependencies among data elements. Under this approach, rules that are data-driven by nature are handled by a mechanism that utilizes their semantic properties, while rules that are event-driven by nature are handled with extended modelling facilities. The self-triggering approach has been employed by the PARDES project that is described throughout this paper. On the other hand, their performance in apply their grammar in integrating the selected information is poor. The experts' grammar may be translated into a formal equivalent and transferred to an artificial system. The resulting system which is described, complements human expertise in decision making. It asks for experts' arguments in a structured format, and it applies the rules of the decision grammar to these arguments. The result is a correctly founded decision. The EPOS process modelling (PM) support system runs on top of the versioned EPOS database (DB), operating in client-server mode. An extension of the EPOS PM is introduced for coping with cooperative, developing activities in an engineering environment. An EPOS DB transaction is connected to a change job or project activity (task). The cooperation model provides facilities for automatically or manually monitoring a set of evolving products, and negotiating to a protocol defining when/how changes will be both locally and globally propagated. The model also offers different policies for reconciliation of conflicting updates. The authors' cooperation model is built on top of versioned EPOS DB and regulated by EPOS PM. It is shown how constraints upon a classification structure can be defined by a group of exclusion sets which, in turn, imply a simple set of properties to be validated. Frequently incremental updates require that the structure be temporarily invalid. A notion of semantic transaction is introduced allowing incremental updates to be performed atomically with respect to the classification structure. By utilising differential representations of the sets comprising a classification structure constraints can be verified efficiently for a given sequence of updates. The approach is illustrated in the context of an object oriented database system; specifically, we are concerned with systems comprising collections (or in some terminologies, classes) of data and with constraints between these collections. In particular, we argue that existing paradigms fail in a multi-database environment, and hence it needs to be supplanted by one that is more flexible and dynamic. Based on this new paradigm we propose a MultiWorld data model which consists of clusters of private/public databases integrated via a contracting mechanism. Each database is autonomous but is able to retrieve external as well as local data. Autonomy appears to lead to conflict. Furthermore, he suggests that the standard approach of modeling examples has produced technology that is too often restricted to the chosen domain or application context and consequently difficult or impossible to generalize to other settings. Such systems are called groupbase systems. The CODA model (COoperation model for Design Applications), a groupbase system tailored to design applications, is presented. Beside the integration of communication features, it uses a flexible locking technique which overcomes many drawbacks of traditional concepts. The latter performs problem solving. In contrast, Redux' acts only as a decision maintenance server. It takes objects of types defined in an ontology of decision components and maintains dependencies between them. Redux' is domain-independent. The dependency relationships are maintained on the basis of proposition type and not content, except for some string matching. Redux' servers are proposed as a mechanism for federating heterogeneous design agents by encapsulating their design decisions within a simple model and providing coordination services, especially for design revision.
