Forms of research used in this study is a qualitative research, with a strategy that is descriptive qualitative research. The data analysis focused on the results of the students' answers on the test essay subject matter limit function with the number of students by 16 (sixteen). Data collection techniques used are shaped test methods essay, interview method to students who have misconceptions, and methods of documentation of the test answers. Examination of the validity of the data using a triangulation technique that compares the data written test results with data from interviews. The results of this study can be described as follows; (1) The level of misconceptions experienced by students belonging to the category of low, amounting to 12.18%. However, students who do not understand the concept quite high at 40.38%, and the others are students who understand the concept that is equal to 47.44%. Murphy","doi":"10.2139/SSRN.2971755","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.2139/SSRN.2971755","url":null,"abstract":"Many nursing schools have adopted the practice of utilizing standardized predictor exams as a method to prepare students for the licensure exam upon completion of the program. These predictor exams serve as a tool for the nursing program to predict student success or failure, which guides nurse educators as they work with the students on identified areas of remediation to increase the students’ chance at success on their licensure exam. As students work through the different components of the specific testing company, suggested remediation is developed based on the students’ testing results. This creates an individualized plan that focuses on identified weakness with the intention to better prepare the student as they work toward program completion. While remediation is commonly understood to be necessary to improve student success, a gap in the evidence to support the effectiveness of specific types of remediation for educators has been identified. The purpose of this non-experimental comparative project using retrospective data was to look at the impact of remediation type on student success in the area of standardized testing. Using the Mann-Whitney U test for data analysis, the faculty-facilitated remediation strategy was shown to be an appropriate method to help increase final predictor exam scores for students in a traditional baccalaureate nursing program.","PeriodicalId":269992,"journal":{"name":"ERN: Government Expenditures & Education (Topic)","volume":"76 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-05-04","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125837628","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

We confine our study to primary and secondary education. A brief historical account of public education in Australia is offered – which shows that, in a broad sense, institutional possibilities in place today have largely remained unchanged over the last centre – and an initial IPF is constructed. Two case studies are examined to provide insight into the barriers to the creation and destruction phases of innovation within the context of public education. First, we analyse Queensland’s Independent Public Schools (IPS) program using a unique dataset and make findings about the perceived barriers to creation. Second, we consider the “Schools of the Future” reforms in Victoria between 1992-1996 and identify mechanisms of destruction and how it is constrained. A second IPF is constructed. Our focus then turns to the United States, where the differences between charter schools and voucher programs are detailed – using District of Columbia laws to see how these theoretical possibilities have been made concrete in legislation – and briefly consider the institutional possibility of for-profit schools. The chapter concludes by constructing a final IPF.","PeriodicalId":269992,"journal":{"name":"ERN: Government Expenditures & Education (Topic)","volume":"35 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-01-16","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115274407","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This paper provides new insights into how survey data can be combined with administrative records to examine the ways in which funding affects workforce decisions. We show that NSF supports more graduate students per dollar spent than other federal agencies. Not surprisingly, NIH heavily supports biology, health, and psychology PhDs, while NSF heavily supports PhDs in engineering, the physical sciences, mathematics, and computer science. Federal funding overall and by agency is related to who does research – a larger share of doctoral recipients supported by NIH are women (50%), African American (2.6%) and Hispanic (4.2%), compared to NSF, the Department of Defense (DOD) or the Department of Energy (DOE). Finally, federal funding is highly correlated with the pipeline of researchers going into different fields, particularly R&D fields, and the decision to pursue postdoctoral fellowships.","PeriodicalId":269992,"journal":{"name":"ERN: Government Expenditures & Education (Topic)","volume":"12 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121983024","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

We examine the financial environment of HEIs as a possible selection mechanism. Particular attention is devoted to the identification of European Research Universities By testing this typology on a large sample of European HEIs, we show systematic differences between types in their activity profile and in the level of funding, therefore providing evidence that types are associated with different market positioning. We identify a small group of research universities, characterized by a high level of research volume and intensity and by a volume of funding far higher than all other HEIs in the sample, suggesting that their emergence is critically linked to the concentration of resources.","PeriodicalId":269992,"journal":{"name":"ERN: Government Expenditures & Education (Topic)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-12-09","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129848875","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
