The absorber consists of two nested metal square rings which can absorb high frequency and low frequency electromagnetic wave, respectively. The simulation results demonstrate that the shielding effectiveness of the cavity which is loaded with the absorber can be improved. Scott","doi":"10.1109/APMC.2015.7413084","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.1109/APMC.2015.7413084","url":null,"abstract":"The standard technique for determining the compatibility of medical implants to the magnetic and RF fields present in Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI), requires access to an MRI machine. For implants comprising metals of mostly the non-ferrous kind, it is only the RF field of an MRI machine that is of concern. Implant electrodes can concentrate the RF field in the surrounding tissue and give rise to joule heating. The inherent design of Spinal Cord Stimulators (SCS) and Deep Brain Stimulators (DBS) makes these implants particularly susceptible to hazardous levels of RF heating. We propose a technique that offers a quick and indicative assessment of the compatibility of implant leads to the RF field in 3-Tesla MRI, without needing access to an MRI machine. A dipole antenna, driven by a power amplifier and Continuous Wave (CW), injects RF energy into a gelled saline phantom. The heating in the gel near a test implant electrode is monitored with a fiber optic thermometer. This electromagnetic wave possesses the fundamental characters of the OAM-carrying waves, i.e. a spiral phase distribution, yet propagates along the transverse direction. Hence the phase singularity of this wave is in the radiation source itself, which can avoid the wide \"dark zone\" derived problems in the long distance transmission. The PSOAM electromagnetic waves with different OAM modes can be easily multiplexed as no divergence exists. By modified a rabbet structure on the multilateral patch, a UWB response has been is improved. The proposed antenna has wide impedance bandwidth from 2.4 GHz to more than 11 GHz with better than -10 dB return loss. The design is demonstrated assuming FR4 substrate with a thickness of 1.6 mm, and the size of the antenna is 40 mm×50 mm. The circularly polarized wave is generated by a split ring-slot etched in the upper metal layer of SIW cavity resonator. A simple coaxial probe is employed to excite this slot split ring resonator and radiate left-handed circularly polarized (LHCP) wave. The proposed antenna retains the advantages of both conventional planar antennas and metallic cavity backed antennas, including compact sizes of 14×14 mm2, light weight, easy low cost fabrication and high gain, low cross polarized level. The diplexer is formed by connecting two switchable dual-band filters to a single feed with multiple coupling paths. No extra matching network is required for this design, which results in a smaller circuit size. In addition, the p-i-n diodes are loaded at one end of the assembled resonators to allow the proposed diplexer to be switchable. For the demonstration, a third-order bandpass switchable diplexer with four operating states is designed and fabricated using microstrip technology. Each channel band can be switched on and off independently. In this paper, we investigate the input RF noise (Trf) of a waveguide superconducting niobium nitride (NbN) SIS receiver operating at 0.5THz. In particular, the input RF noise is measured for two respective cases of a small beam aperture surrounded by an aluminum plate and a blackbody, which is located just in front of the 0.5THz NbN SIS receiver. Based on numerical approximation technique and exchange-Remez algorithm, one can design a symmetric or asymmetric frequency response beside two passband. Different equiripple characteristic and orders can be achieved in each passband. Under the definition of power wave, the objective filter response with an arbitrary load can be converted to the measurable response and its referenced impedance is unity at the terminal. The antenna is realized by cascading two resonant structures with meander lines, thus introducing two different radiating branches to realize two neighboring resonant frequencies. The techniques of shorting pin and novel ground plane are adopted for bandwidth enhancement. Combined with these structures, a novel antenna with a total size of 23 mm × 49.5 mm for the ISM band application is developed and fabricated.
