As teachers often need to correspond with a large number of students, they have difficulty grasping individual student learning situations. Therefore, we previously developed a method to estimate the learning situations of students from the source code editing history that reflects their trial-and-error processes. However, this method burdens the teachers by requiring them to prepare a large amount of training data. In this paper, we present Everest: an exercise environment for programming to reduce the burden of training data creation. In Everest, training data is created through student reflection. As a result, introducing Everest can reduce the data creation burden on teachers.","PeriodicalId":268992,"journal":{"name":"2019 18th International Conference on Information Technology Based Higher Education and Training (ITHET)","volume":"72 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122588099","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Web based systems providing such capabilities are designed to apply techniques ranging from static analysis of program correctness, to testing-based evaluation, and often can have application in frameworks supporting competitive programming. Here we report on the 2TSW system, which uses the testing-based approach in a gamified web-based environment. In 2TSWa learner can access a list of assignments, submit solutions and have such solutions tested and graded. The quality of the solutions contributes to the contents of the student's profile, showing experience points, medals gained for assignments, assignment categories badges, and an appropriate overall status badge. The personal profile allows the student to monitor her/his proceedings. The gamified structure of the system, together with the provision of real-time automated assessment, offers the opportunity for an increasing level of students' personal engagement and motivation. We describe the system, and provide the reader with the results of a field experimentation, conducted in a first-year computer programming course, bachelor in Computer Engineering. The data analysis of a questionnaire allows to conclude that the system was very welcome, and that the students appreciated the general gamified experience and the usefulness of the system. The data also allow to conclude that the students' engagement was high and that the learners appear to be open to the possibility of using again 2TSW and any other web-based system supporting assessment of complex tasks, also on subject matters different than Computer Programming.","PeriodicalId":268992,"journal":{"name":"2019 18th International Conference on Information Technology Based Higher Education and Training (ITHET)","volume":"127 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122647985","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The research was conducted by the education research team of COPEC for a private educational institution for the development of innovative programs in engineering field. The results have revealed a trend for more flexible and global formation and it is not only for engineering field but in general. It is a view of the future formation of engineers in particular once it is a profession, which provides professionals a lot of mobility and opportunities due to the core of the engineering programs that are almost the same everywhere. Disruptive technology development allied to the global communication and artificial intelligence are redesigning the education scenario and it is a fact that is there now and the unwind of this path certainly will lead to a more widespread knowledge clusters and the formation of any professional will be very nonconventional as we know and have now.","PeriodicalId":268992,"journal":{"name":"2019 18th International Conference on Information Technology Based Higher Education and Training (ITHET)","volume":"72 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127019014","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Along with this, in Japan, programming has already been a mandatory subject in junior high school and it has been decided to make programming a mandatory subject in elementary school. We have studied the effects of robot control using a GUI-based programming environment (Scratch) as an introductory education to programming, and a positive effect was confirmed. However in order to perform continuous programming learning, we need to move from GUI-based to CUI-based programming education. In these years, we have been testing out the transition education from GUI-based to CUI-based of programming for first-year university students. From these results, prior GUI-based learning has been confirmed to have a positive effect for students' comprehension of subsequent CUI-based learning in a continuous programming learning.","PeriodicalId":268992,"journal":{"name":"2019 18th International Conference on Information Technology Based Higher Education and Training (ITHET)","volume":"2016 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127407006","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Since most Technology Enhanced Learning users retrieve resources from the Web for teaching or learning, the Web is recognised as a repository of educational material. A big issue in automatic retrieval of online resources is that the Web is a huge and mostly unorganised space. Hence, there is no guarantee that items retrieved by current search engines are appropriate for educational uses. Automatically identifying Web-content suitable for education is one of the most challenging objectives because it requires extraordinary attention. Studies in Technology Enhanced Learning have proposed several solutions to support the teaching and learning needs of instructors and pupils within an enclosed platform. Other studies offer different techniques for collecting resources from the open Web that have specific characteristics. This work aims to gather findings and results from such studies for establishing a set of guidelines for researchers in education, expecting to improve the development of future proposals in this field.","PeriodicalId":268992,"journal":{"name":"2019 18th International Conference on Information Technology Based Higher Education and Training (ITHET)","volume":"32 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116920911","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Microelectronics is technically at the very core of all these systems and must therefore contribute to this development. To achieve this, it is necessary to develop highly specialized but also broad spectrum skills and know-how. The industry worldwide observes a shortage of these skills and identifies areas of stressed. The educational world of engineering must therefore respond to this demand and adapt its pedagogical approaches and content. This is the mission of the French microelectronics training network, which focuses on innovation in accordance with the emerging needs. After a presentation of the technical and technological context, industrial needs and examples of innovative approaches taken by the network are presented.","PeriodicalId":268992,"journal":{"name":"2019 18th International Conference on Information Technology Based Higher Education and Training (ITHET)","volume":"36 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116938117","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
