An approach capable to integrate different types of resources is presented. The described approach corresponds to the recent trends in education where multimedia tools and virtual reality are integrated to improve learning. The described approach has been used to create an interactive experimental lesson for students studying mural painting. The developed innovative lesson is tailored to the age characteristics of students and their increased interest in fine arts. NI4OS-Europe team has identified a set of necessary services and the corresponding policies that resources have to produce and publish, clearly stating to the users the ways these resources could be used, as well as the actions that are not allowed. By offering service providers a clear procedure for onboarding, NI4OS-Europe project partners are able to on-board more services with pan-European significance. Unfortunately, billboards and plates near monuments usually do not provide enough information that can satisfy the visitors’ needs. However, mobile devices such as tablets and smartphones with appropriate software solutions can help visitors get the information in an appropriate manner. In this paper, we present two ways of providing information such as a web application with the usage of QR codes, and a purposely developed application for mobile devices implemented by using augmented reality technologies. We compare both these solutions and discuss their advantages and possible drawbacks. The application of these two approaches of using information technologies in representing national historical heritage are illustrated by concrete examples of their implementation in the city of Niš. In the category patents and utility models are compared percentage shares of total patent applications by the top five offices; patent applications for the top 10 offices; top 10 Patent Cooperation Treaty (PCT) applicants; utility model applications for the top 10 offices. In the category trademark are compared percentage shares of total trademark filing activity by the top five offices; application class counts for the top 10 offices; Madrid international applications for the top 10 origins. In the category industrial design are compared percentage shares of total design filing activity by the top five offices; application design counts for the top 10 offices; designs in Hague international applications for the top 10 origins.
