The selection of an optimal set of multiple serving mobile networks for multicast streams is NP-hard and is, therefore, a challenging problem. We propose and evaluate a simple heuristic algorithm that provides configuration of multicast groups for a given network topology and network conditions. We consider that a forward error correction technique is applied to deal with packet loss of the wireless communication.","PeriodicalId":268141,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 13th International Conference on Advances in Mobile Computing and Multimedia","volume":"43 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-12-11","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126535796","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

We explore the constraints on working range and pattern resolution that are imposed by the low-light property of our single-shot set-up. While focusing on the most light-sensitive steps of the decoding workflow, we suggest adaptations of image rectification and pattern generation and segmentation algorithms that are tailored to the specific spatial and radiometric requirements of our system.","PeriodicalId":268141,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 13th International Conference on Advances in Mobile Computing and Multimedia","volume":"47 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-12-11","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133449594","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

These devices are equipped with different sensors which enable them to capture multimedia information (e.g., several cameras and microphone). Therefore, today is easier than ever to count with a device which could capture information of interest in real-time almost anywhere. We present an approach to enable users to specify the kind of real-time multimedia information they are interested in and to obtain such information (in a continuous manner) from remote devices based on: 1) semantic techniques to handle the knowledge associated with different scenarios and requests, and 2) a network of mobile agents to process these requests continuously over different devices and communication networks.","PeriodicalId":268141,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 13th International Conference on Advances in Mobile Computing and Multimedia","volume":"40 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-12-11","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131585016","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In our previous work, we analyze our dataset of long-term experiment with periodic scanning of proximal devices emitting close-range radio waves for wireless communication to investigate the frequency of human serendipitous encounters. As a result, we have found that the frequency of human serendipitous encounter has a scale-free property where the number of encounters is highly biased and its average means nothing. Our dataset is not Big data (the number of participants in our experiment is a few dozen), but it is Long data, but the property is universally observed. It is important to check from a multilateral perspective whether mobile phone data, which is one of well-used Big datasets, also support this fundamental property of human serendipitous encounter. In this paper, we investigate the scale-free property of human contact frequency using mobile phone data of D4D Challenge Senegal which contains hundreds thousands of human mobility traces. Because the data is not provided with high resolution enough to detect exact human encounter at proximity, we roughly assumed that humans who are considered to be placed around the same cell tower encounter with each other. Despite this rough assumption, we successfully reproduce the scale-free property.","PeriodicalId":268141,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 13th International Conference on Advances in Mobile Computing and Multimedia","volume":"5 6","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-12-11","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131943641","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In iris recognition systems, several conditions cause different types of degradations on iris data such as the poor quality of the acquired pictures, the iris region which can be partially occluded due to light spots, or by lenses, eyeglasses, hair or eyelids, and adverse illuminations or contrasts. All of these limitations are open problems in the iris recognition and affect the performance of iris localization, iris feature extraction or decision making process, and appear as imperfections in the extracted signature. This paper addresses the use of the uncertainty theory for modeling iris system imperfections. Several comparative experiments were conducted on three subsets, namely CASIA.Ver4: synthetic, thousand and interval iris databases. Experimental results show that our proposed system, based on the possibility theory, improves the iris recognition system in terms ROC, AUC, FAR, FRR and PIN, compared to other iris identification systems.","PeriodicalId":268141,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 13th International Conference on Advances in Mobile Computing and Multimedia","volume":"84 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-12-11","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131617559","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In turn, gamification has been identified as a useful tool to motivate individuals towards behavioural change. However, both health professionals and game developers are currently working on island solutions addressing individual problems due to the lack of efficient frameworks enabling cooperation in this domain. This has resulted in a large number of mHealth apps, each using different motivational techniques, metrics and health data. In this paper we propose a unified user-centred framework which is capable of running third-party developer's apps within a sandbox. Using this approach, we can mitigate often voiced privacy and safety concerns and simultaneously tailor health-interventions using content from developers as well as user preferences and environment in order to facilitate internalisation of healthy lifestyles. Apart from this, we provide indications for operationalizing our conceptual framework in future work.","PeriodicalId":268141,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 13th International Conference on Advances in Mobile Computing and Multimedia","volume":"51 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-12-11","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133795034","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Typically, a CS is a system where users, called workers, perform tasks using desktop computers. Recently, some CS have appeared with spatiotemporal tasks. Such tasks require a worker to be in a given location within a specific time-window to be accomplished. We propose and study here the usage of five heuristics for solving the NP-hard trajectory recommendation problem (TRP). In a TRP, the system recommends a trajectory to a worker that allows him to accomplish spatiotemporal tasks he has skill and/or affinity with, without exceeding his available time. Our experiments show that some of our heuristics are efficient alternatives for a heavy optimal approach providing trajectories with an average utility of about 60% of the optimal ones.","PeriodicalId":268141,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 13th International Conference on Advances in Mobile Computing and Multimedia","volume":"403 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-12-11","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123507297","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this respect, reducing the system cost entails applying low cost low resolution monocular cameras, leading to poor quality images. Adding potential navigation associated camera vibration, the system proves to be liable to some data imperfections. Such image affecting imperfections refer well to the necessity of applying the possibility theory as an appropriate means for reducing information ambiguity. In this regard, a new traversable area segmentation based on possibility modeling theory approach is being developed in this work. Noteworthy and for satisfactory adaptation of our model to image condition variability, a crucial starting point is imposed, namely considering reference area placed in the bottom of the image, assumed to be a traversable area. Actually, the proposed approach involves three major steps, namely: a color feature extraction step, a possibility distribution generation step, based on Dubois and Prade principle, as well as a data fusion step where a conjunctive operator is achieved for generating a distinctive unique possibility map. To note, the proposed approach is validated on a publicly as well as a developed databases. A mean accuracy rate of 98% is obtained with respect to both databases.","PeriodicalId":268141,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 13th International Conference on Advances in Mobile Computing and Multimedia","volume":"24 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-12-11","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131737905","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Due to the advantage that no infrastructure is needed, MANETs are useful in various situations such as disaster sites. In such applications, information monitoring techniques are required, for example, to obtain the information on victims. In MANETs, the bandwidth and batteries of nodes are limited and nodes move freely, thus conventional techniques for fixed and wired networks are hard to apply to MANETs. Moreover, periodic data retrieval approach is inefficient because it incurs large traffic to obtain data items continuously. We therefore propose a communication-efficient method for continuously monitoring data existing around a query originating node. Our proposed method does not rely on periodic approach, but rather extends query transmission ranges dynamically and continuously to deal with nodes' movement. Query receiving nodes estimate the current position of the query originating node and forward data items toward the position. This approach also enables efficient data forwarding when data updates occur. Simulation experiments demonstrate the efficiency and scalability of our method.","PeriodicalId":268141,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 13th International Conference on Advances in Mobile Computing and Multimedia","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-12-11","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131262727","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

We developed a Query-by-Drawing (QbD) mobile application, and conducted a user study on it to explore the search behavior of painting search by drawing on the touchscreen phone. Based on the resulting drawings and video-logs of drawing procedures on three task conditions, we analyzed the patterns of query formulation and query modification. We further examined the effects of user characteristic and task type on the search strategy when using our mobile application. The results elicited some guidelines for mobile QbD image search interface design and informed the potential improvements of our application.","PeriodicalId":268141,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 13th International Conference on Advances in Mobile Computing and Multimedia","volume":"11 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-12-11","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123658393","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
