These alerts cause problems to human analysts to repeatedly and intensively analyze the false alerts to initiate appropriate actions. We demonstrate the advantages of using a hybrid neuro-fuzzy approach to reduce the number of false alarms. The neuro-fuzzy approach was experimented with different background knowledge sets in DARPA 1999 network traffic dataset. The approach was evaluated and compared with RIPPER algorithm. The results shows that the neuro- fuzzy approach significantly reduces the number of false alarms more than the RIPPER algorithm and requires less background knowledge sets.","PeriodicalId":266936,"journal":{"name":"Fifth Annual Conference on Communication Networks and Services Research (CNSR '07)","volume":"2 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2007-05-14","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114272063","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

We keep the single-sliding-window architecture of TCP untouched for compatibility reasons. The two core components of the design are a packet scheduling switch that balances load among paths, and a duplicated acknowledgement classifier that handles packet reordering. We implemented our protocol in FreeBSD kernel and compared the performance of cTCP with theoretical results. Experiment outcomes show that throughputs of our protocol are close to the ideal values.","PeriodicalId":266936,"journal":{"name":"Fifth Annual Conference on Communication Networks and Services Research (CNSR '07)","volume":"137 3 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2007-05-14","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130879421","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The simulation results reveal that in the LOS industrial environments the selective RAKE receiver has better performance. In the NLOS industrial environments, the differential detection receiver is a more viable choice with the low pulse repeat rate when the inter-symbol interference (ISI) effect can be ignored; however, the selective RAKE receiver is a better choice with the high pulse repeat rate when the ISI has to be taken into account.","PeriodicalId":266936,"journal":{"name":"Fifth Annual Conference on Communication Networks and Services Research (CNSR '07)","volume":"52 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2007-05-14","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129801248","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The resulting systems, called wireless sensor networks (WSN). The advances in the integration of complex wireless integrated products and the increase in performance and functionality of the design tools, the requirements and properties of a single device (sensor node) are well understood. Yet it is not simple and straightforward to implement WSN concepts into a functional prototype system or even a commercial product. This tutorial will address the key factors in WSN design. The capabilities of the current WSNs will be examined. The new security scenarios for WSN will be illustrated. Different localization techniques in WSN will be discussed and compared. Future trends in WSN research will be introduced.","PeriodicalId":266936,"journal":{"name":"Fifth Annual Conference on Communication Networks and Services Research (CNSR '07)","volume":"12 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2007-05-14","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"117216654","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It is damp, dusty and hot, there is a risk of roof and rock falling and the atmosphere can be potentially explosive. Recent incidents are a reminder of how crucial safety is in mining. The increasing miniaturization of RF devices and micro-electromechanical systems (MEMS) and the advances in wireless technologies have generated a great deal of research interest in the area of wireless sensor networks (WSN). Sensor networks provide a promising infrastructure for gathering information about parameters of the physical world. Such networks have many applications in military and civilian environments. In this paper, a new wireless sensor network architecture is introduced for surveillance and security monitoring of underground mines and confined areas.","PeriodicalId":266936,"journal":{"name":"Fifth Annual Conference on Communication Networks and Services Research (CNSR '07)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2007-05-14","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130387680","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, it has a relatively high computational complexity due to the computation of multiple inverse fast Fourier transforms (IFFTs). We reduce this complexity by using a radix FFT that computes multiple IFFTs with low computational complexity. Signals at the middle stages of an N-point radix-r FFT using decimation in frequency (DIF) are employed for PTS subblocking. Performance results are presented which show that PAPR reduction similar to other techniques such as ordinary PTS (O-PTS) is achieved.","PeriodicalId":266936,"journal":{"name":"Fifth Annual Conference on Communication Networks and Services Research (CNSR '07)","volume":"56 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2007-05-14","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124836961","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This task is usually overwhelming, since the surfer is not familiar with all the authors in that community. In this paper, we propose a semantic Web search engine called ConnectA! that helps the users to find the publications of a community of authors on a specific subject, while they only know a very limited number of the authors in that community. The primary live evaluation of the implemented model shows the efficiency of the method.","PeriodicalId":266936,"journal":{"name":"Fifth Annual Conference on Communication Networks and Services Research (CNSR '07)","volume":"29 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2007-05-14","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114609420","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The objective of the new algorithm is to improve overall performance by keeping link utilization high, link utilization stable, queueing delay low and consecutive packet drop rate low. This paper shows the objective is met by comparing AVQRED with six other well known AQM methods in a realistic emulation environment. To provide fair comparisons, the AQM parameters are fine-tuned by exploring many different parameter settings via emulations. The emulation results conclude that AVQRED improves overall performance by 8 to 25%. To provide intuitive properties and validate the emulation results, a mathematical model is proposed and fed to MATLAB, and the results from MATLAB and emulations are compared.","PeriodicalId":266936,"journal":{"name":"Fifth Annual Conference on Communication Networks and Services Research (CNSR '07)","volume":"13 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2007-05-14","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130741195","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

An online single-pass algorithm called OFSD (Online Frequent Sequence Discovery) is given, to mine the set of all conceptual frequent sequences in a data stream whose conceptual frequency rates satisfy a minimum user defined frequency rate. Phrase recommender algorithm is then described based on the set of conceptual frequent phrases extracted by the OFSD algorithm. We have also designed a query recommender algorithm, OQD (Online Query Discovery). OQD is used for comparison purposes along side the proposed phrase recommender algorithm. Simulation results show the efficiency of the proposed Phrase recommender algorithm compared to OQD.","PeriodicalId":266936,"journal":{"name":"Fifth Annual Conference on Communication Networks and Services Research (CNSR '07)","volume":"36 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2007-05-14","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128921818","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Mohammed","doi":"10.1109/CNSR.2007.4","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.1109/CNSR.2007.4","url":null,"abstract":"Background noise is usually an important factor that affects speech recognition performance and many other applications. In this paper, background noise (wideband noise and sinusoidal noise) can be significantly suppressed using the proposed adaptive noise cancellation scheme based on adaptive line enhancer (ALE) and normalized least mean square (NLMS) filters. The proposed scheme is comprised of two stages. The first stage uses an ALE filters, which are used to reduce sinusoidal noise from the primary and reference input signals, whereas the wideband noise is reduced using NLMS adaptive filter in the second stage. To demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed scheme ,it is compared to the traditional adaptive noise cancellation scheme. The good performance of the proposed scheme have been verified via computer simulations in noisy and reverberant environment.","PeriodicalId":266936,"journal":{"name":"Fifth Annual Conference on Communication Networks and Services Research (CNSR '07)","volume":"79 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2007-05-14","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128950645","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
