In this paper, we study the performance of cache-aided NOMA over various fading downlink channels, namely Weibull, Nakagami and Rician channels. In particular, we consider a cache-equipped two-user cellular network and propose an optimization problem to find the optimal power control policy such that the probability of successful decoding of files at the network is maximized, for each of the fading models. Through extensive Monte Carlo simulations and numerical results, we validate the analytically derived expressions for optimal power allocation, and show that the cache-aided NOMA scheme outperforms both conventional NOMA and cache-aided orthogonal multiple access schemes, in terms of probability of successful decoding of files at each user.","PeriodicalId":265871,"journal":{"name":"2020 International Conference on COMmunication Systems & NETworkS (COMSNETS)","volume":"57 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131073475","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Frequent hardware failure and network bottlenecks in the underlying infrastructure degrade the performance significantly. Replica technique provides enhanced fault tolerance by storing multiple replicas of a single data block. In the Hadoop platform, the Hadoop Distributed File System (HDFS) handles data storage and provides replica placement services. The Default HDFS replica engine adopts a simple rack aware policy and is designed to improve fault tolerance by storing data blocks in multiple racks. However, the HDFS replica engine does not consider key performance indicators of data center resources such as rack utilization and node storage utilization. Furthermore, in HDFS data is stored as uniformly divided small-sized blocks, which increases traffic flow during the entire file access, therefore degrading the response time. In this research, we propose a Storage and Rack Sensitive (SRS) replica placement algorithm that aims at improving the rack and storage utilization of data center resources. The proposed algorithm also attempts to optimize traffic flow during file access by storing data as original files instead of small uniform blocks. Experimental results of the proposed SRS algorithm are compared against the default HDFS replica distribution and significant improvement on rack-utilization and storage-utilization were observed. Furthermore, latest literature confirms that the “Data as a File” approach indeed decreases the amount of data flow caused by file access traffic.","PeriodicalId":265871,"journal":{"name":"2020 International Conference on COMmunication Systems & NETworkS (COMSNETS)","volume":"21 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134375288","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It is desired that changes in topology do not trigger updates to existing schedules. Topology-transparent scheduling algorithms achieve this objective as they work only with global network parameters, namely the maximum size and maximum nodal degree of the network. In this paper, we present MIMO-TTR+, a topology-transparent scheduling protocol for multi-hop wireless networks with MIMO-enabled transceivers. The protocol uses RTS/CTS handshaking with multiple RTS minislots to utilize the channel bandwidth effectively even when the maximum nodal degree exceeds the number of receive antennas at the destination node. We perform detailed mathematical analysis and numerical simulations to show the superiority of our approach over similar ones in the literature.","PeriodicalId":265871,"journal":{"name":"2020 International Conference on COMmunication Systems & NETworkS (COMSNETS)","volume":"14 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132109606","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Mining Industry being one of the high-stress workplace witness different occupational health and safety issues. In this work, we envisioned a healthy work environment for the mining workforce and carried out detailed data analytics on accident, illness and injury dataset covering a total of 13 years of history from 2005-2017. Our results show that Work-related musculoskeletal disorder (WMSD) remained the most frequent health issues which further caused an average of 51 lost workdays and a maximum of 900 lost production days. Furthermore, individual analysis on the miners body part affected due to WMSDs shows that shoulder is most suffered followed by knee with an average of 77 and 57 lost workdays respectively, whereas back remained the most suffering body part in the entire dataset leading to an average of 48 lost workdays. In addition, underground mine operations witness more WMSDs in total than surface mines and mill or preparation plants. The findings reported will be useful to find out the factors leading to WMSDs at mining workplace and adopt preventive measures and introducing new alternative technologies considering automation at workplace.","PeriodicalId":265871,"journal":{"name":"2020 International Conference on COMmunication Systems & NETworkS (COMSNETS)","volume":"7 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122622158","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

To fulfill this demand, efficient resource allocation for broadcast is required. In this paper we propose Dynamic Adaptive TV (DA-TV) broadcast scheme that efficiently selects suitable transmission parameters. Our proposed DA-TV broadcast technique adapts the transmission configuration based on the operating channel conditions of the heterogeneous mobile users. In our framework, we consider feedback from the receivers in terms of their channel conditions given by Signal to Noise Ratio (SNR). The feedback is implemented using a Wi-Fi link. Experimental implementation, validation, and performance evaluation of the proposed technique has been conducted. Results validate the efficacy of the proposed technique interms of considerable increase in dynamic range of useful data rate and improved Peak Signal to Noise Ratio (PSNR) of the received videos.","PeriodicalId":265871,"journal":{"name":"2020 International Conference on COMmunication Systems & NETworkS (COMSNETS)","volume":"112 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"117244917","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

These networks should be able to process high resolution video streams coming from the HD camera sources in real time. However, due to the fixed network size and to maintain the processing speed, high resolution frames need to be resized and down-sampled before feeding into the networks resulting in loss of feature information, hampering recognition accuracy. This motivated us to propose a methodology which focuses on creating and processing the active region of interests in the foreground image through an active region generator (ARG) module, eliminating the need to traverse the entire frame and down-sample the resolution before feeding it to the neural network. This resulted in saving 25x more image feature information, whilst maintaining a given person detection accuracy of 92 % mAP for longer distance up to 30~35 metre executing in real time w.r.t it's classical counterpart based on singleshot detector model. Besides, our proposed pipeline architecture utilizing multi-core TESLA GPU increases the execution throughput by a factor of 3X verified in NVIDIA DGX system.","PeriodicalId":265871,"journal":{"name":"2020 International Conference on COMmunication Systems & NETworkS (COMSNETS)","volume":"122 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114346170","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

While there has been many efforts to achieve efficient translation between sign and verbal languages, many of these previous work can be applied in non-mobile context or exploit RGB images which can potentially invade the users' privacy. This work presents our preliminary efforts in designing a mobile device-based sign language translation system using depth-only images. Our system performs image processing on the smartphone-collected depth images to emphasize the subject's hand and upper body gestures and exploits a convolutional neural network for feature extraction. The series of features gathered from word-representing videos are passed through a Long-Short Term Memory (LSTM) model for word-level sign language translation. We train and test our system using a total of 2,200 samples collected from 26 people for 17 words. To protect security and privacy of the mobile user, many smartphone applications use encryption to encapsulates communications over the Internet. However it is not possible to decode the actual message contents, even then the statistical information present in the traffic is useful to identify application and the associated activity. This paper proposes a machine learning based framework to analyze the encrypted mobile traffic with the objective of finding the mobile application usage patterns of smartphone users. This information can be used by various authorities to profile mobile users with respect to their age, gender profession, etc. which would further help them to look for any suspicious or anomalous behaviour. Proposed framework has been tested on the network traffic data pertaining to popular smartphone applications such as GMail, Facebook, and Youtube and have achieved 97.46% accuracy for application identification. Further, the proposed framework also achieved a fairly high accuracy, 77.37% when used for the classification of exact activity performed by the smartphone user in different applications.","PeriodicalId":265871,"journal":{"name":"2020 International Conference on COMmunication Systems & NETworkS (COMSNETS)","volume":"2015 4","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114087082","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It uses fine-grained electrical measurements to attain optimized reliability and stability by sharing these measurements among different entities of energy management systems of the grid. There are many stakeholders like users, phasor measurement units (PMU), and other entities, with changing requirements involved in the sharing of the data. Therefore, data security plays a vital role in the correct functioning of a power grid network. In this paper, we propose an attribute-based encryption (ABE) for secure data sharing in Smart Grid architectures as ABE enables efficient and secure access control. Also, the access policy is obfuscated to preserve privacy. We use Linear Secret Sharing (LSS) Scheme for supporting any monotone access structures, thereby enhancing the expressiveness of access policies. Finally, we also analyze the security, access policy privacy and collusion resistance properties along with efficiency analysis of our cryptosystem.","PeriodicalId":265871,"journal":{"name":"2020 International Conference on COMmunication Systems & NETworkS (COMSNETS)","volume":"90 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127390508","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
