Demographic characteristics of population, thevariation of people age-sex structure, dependency levels, economic infrastructure, natural resources, family income, unemployment and economic security play a significant role in determining these orientations and their paths. Cultural and social features and heritage, values and believes of the society contribute in forming and determining many types of professions that are preferable for Omani women. Many theories emphasis the fact that women's decisions and orientations to participate in labor force is not a self-decided path, but it is rather a joint point of many social factors, cultural considerations, and other factors related to economy and demography. For instance, many traditional societies which are dominated by agricultural productivity patterns are overwhelmedby inhibitory behaviors and values for women labor. These societies usually consider the woman as a housewife, and do not pay attention to her achievements. As a result, these values and behaviors plays a significant and a profound role in determining female's professions orientations which eventually determines the features of the careers she would work at. It provides that Directives are not enforceable in a court of law. But, they are fundamental in the governance of the country and it shall be the duty of the state to apply them in making laws. In view of such provision, there have arisen certain conflicts between the Directive Principles and Fundamental Rights. But, as of now Article 39(b) and 39(c) can take precedence over Fundamental Right enshrined under Article 14 and Article 19. During the initial period from 1950 to 1966 there was emphasis on sacrosanct character of Fundamental rights. The Supreme Court held the view that if two interpretations of a law are possible, the one avoiding conflict should be accepted. But in case of a single interpretation, leading to conflict fundamental right would prevail other directive principles. In this view, constitutionality of 1st Amendment Act was hailed as valid. In the historic Golan Math’s case, 1967, the Supreme Court emphasized on unamedability of the fundamental rights which have been given a ‘transcendental position.’ The Government passed 24th and 25th Amendment Act1971. The 24th Constitution Amendment Act made it clear that the Parliament has power to amend any provision of the Constitution, including the fundamental Rights.","PeriodicalId":265472,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Advance Research in Social Science and Humanities (ISSN: 2208-2387)","volume":"35 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-05-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132372417","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The main concern of the study is to unveil CNN's hidden ideologies towards Arab spring upheaval in Syria investigating itsm discoursal ''Self'' and ''Other'' representations. To achieve this goal, the researcher utilized thefollowing theories: 1) van Dijk's theory of Semantic Macrostructure (1980); to examine macro and micro structures of CNN's online news article, 2) van Dijk's theory of Ideological Square (1998c); to examine CNN's ideologies embedded within its online news article and 3) Wodak's DiscourseHistorical Approach; to endorse linguistic and ideological analysis of CNN's online news article. Fairclough's three-dimensional Approach was utilized to organize the process of analysis of the study text. Within the linguistic analysis, macro and micro structures of CNN's online news articles were analyzed. At the macro level, the semantic macrostructure was outlined to determine its global meaning. At the micro level, the syntactic, lexical and rhetorical structures were examined to determine their local meaning. Within the ideological analysis, the CNN's online news article was analyzed to determine its ideological positive ''Self'' (in-group) and negative ''Other'' (out-group) presentations. The findings revealed that CNN's ideological orientations towards Syria were varied. Thus, it presented the Syrian internal conflict as the positive \"Self\" identities while the Syrian regime as the negative \"Other'' identities","PeriodicalId":265472,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Advance Research in Social Science and Humanities (ISSN: 2208-2387)","volume":"120 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-04-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128947938","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The cardinal objective of the paper is to identify the factors affecting voter behaviour in recent times in Nigerian elections. Experimental survey design was adopted in the study. Data were elicited from both primary and secondary sources and was analyzed using content, percentage and Chi-square statistical tools. The paper revealed among the other things that gratification and party affiliations significantly influenced voter behaviour during the 2015 gubernatorial elections in Nigeria especially in Ebonyi State. It therefore recommends inter alia; that voters should be enlightened further by relevant agencies in Nigeria on the choice of candidate(s) based on party manifestoes, policy and programmes rather than heavy dependence on gratification. Implication of this finding for Nigerian citizenry is that it is only through voting of candidate in an election on the basis of lined-up policies and programmes that can bring about popular choice of candidate that would eventually deliver the democratic dividends to the citizenry.","PeriodicalId":265472,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Advance Research in Social Science and Humanities (ISSN: 2208-2387)","volume":"20 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-12-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114945985","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The media assists in the management of disasters by educating the public about disasters; warningm of hazards; gathering and transmitting information about affected areas; alerting government officials, relief organizations and the public to specific needs; and facilitating discussions about disaster preparedness and response for continuous improvement. To help the media fulfill these roles, direct working relationships between the media and disaster management organizations should be established and maintained. Experience shows that regular interactions with the mediabefore a disaster strikes, aids the effective flow of information and lays the groundwork for effective working relationships in the aftermath of a disaster. 1 The Press Day on November 16, 2000 was observed with the theme of “Role of Media in Disaster Management – Preparing People to Cope with Disasters.” A National Seminar was organised at Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi, whichwas inaugurated by the President of India.
