In this paper, we show how model processing help addressing such needs. We present a generic distribution model suitable for high integrity systems, and demonstrate how a high-level modeling deployment view allows one to greatly reduce the model complexity. In one possible routing scheme for wireless sensor networks, each node maintains up-to-date hop-distances and next-hop nodes to the mobile sink node (or multiple mobile sink nodes). However, this type of method may require too much control overhead in order to maintain up-to-date and consistent hop-distances and next-hop nodes for all of the sensor nodes in the network. Therefore, we propose a new low-control-overhead data dissemination scheme, referred to as pseudo-distance data dissemination, for efficiently disseminating data packets from all sensor nodes to mobile sink nodes in a wireless sensor network","PeriodicalId":265471,"journal":{"name":"10th IEEE International Symposium on Object and Component-Oriented Real-Time Distributed Computing (ISORC'07)","volume":"13 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2007-05-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133619300","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Messages sent by nodes might be lost due to collision and noise if multiple nodes simultaneously send the messages. If a message is detected to be lost, the source node retransmits the message to the destination nodes. It takes at least three rounds to detect and retransmit a lost message since the source node sends the message. The more number of messages are retransmitted, the more number of messages collide. We have to reduce the number of messages retransmitted to realize the efficient data transmission. We newly propose a redundant data transmission (RT) protocol where a sensed value is redundantly carried to the destination node by multiple messages. Even if a message is lost, the destination node can receive data in the lost message if the destination node receives other redundant messages. In addition, we have to reduce the energy consumption of a sensor node. A sensor node mainly consumes the energy to send and receive messages. Even if an event occurs, only some number of sensor nodes sensing the event send the sensed values to reduce the total energy consumption. We discuss an energy-efficient data transmission protocol. We evaluate the RT protocol compared with the CSMA protocol in terms of how much sensing data a node can receive in presence of messages loss","PeriodicalId":265471,"journal":{"name":"10th IEEE International Symposium on Object and Component-Oriented Real-Time Distributed Computing (ISORC'07)","volume":"4 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2007-05-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128299477","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This work proposes GRIDTS, a grid infrastructure in which the resources select the tasks they execute, instead of a scheduler finding resources for the tasks. This solution allows scheduling decisions to be made with up-to-date information about the resources. Moreover, GRIDTS provides fault-tolerant scheduling by combining a set of fault tolerance techniques to tolerate crash faults in components of the system. The core of the solution is a tuple space, which supports the communication, but also provides support for the fault tolerance mechanisms","PeriodicalId":265471,"journal":{"name":"10th IEEE International Symposium on Object and Component-Oriented Real-Time Distributed Computing (ISORC'07)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2007-05-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129172605","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Providing deadline guarantees for queries over dynamic data streams is a challenging problem due to bursty stream rates and time-varying contents. This paper presents a prediction-based QoS management scheme for real-time data stream query processing in distributed environments. The prediction-based QoS management scheme features query workload estimators, which predict the query workload using execution time profiling and input data sampling. In this paper, we apply the prediction-based technique to select the proper propagation schemes for data streams and intermediate query results in distributed environments. The performance study demonstrates that the proposed solution tolerates dramatic workload fluctuations and saves significant amounts of CPU time and network bandwidth with little overhead","PeriodicalId":265471,"journal":{"name":"10th IEEE International Symposium on Object and Component-Oriented Real-Time Distributed Computing (ISORC'07)","volume":"159 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2007-05-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123101667","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The two most commonly used priority inheritance protocols are basic priority inheritance and priority ceiling emulation. Although both are supported in POSIX, Ada and the Real-Time Specification for Java (RTSJ), little has been written about the consequences of using both protocols concurrently in the same program. The assumption is usually that only one is in force at any particular time. For large real-time systems, this assumption may not be valid. This paper provides motivation for why a mixture of the two can occur and illustrates that this can result in the raising of unwanted asynchronous exception. This has led the Technical Interpretation Committee for the RTSJ to propose a new version of the priority ceiling emulation protocol that will enable it to work in harmony with basic priority inheritance. The protocol is described and we use the UPPAAL tool to explore formal properties using model checking","PeriodicalId":265471,"journal":{"name":"10th IEEE International Symposium on Object and Component-Oriented Real-Time Distributed Computing (ISORC'07)","volume":"140 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2007-05-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115533168","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

One of the major implementation issues is on the network deployment problem. In this paper, we target issues in the deployment of wireless sensor nodes in three-dimensional indoor environments and with irregular radiation patterns for both message communicating and sensing. Our objective is to develop a more effective way to deploy sensor networks and to minimize the number of deployed nodes. We propose several search-oriented strategies to improve the performance of search algorithms, such as simulated annealing. The capability of the proposed strategies is demonstrated by real-case studies in the deployment of sensor networks in several office flats","PeriodicalId":265471,"journal":{"name":"10th IEEE International Symposium on Object and Component-Oriented Real-Time Distributed Computing (ISORC'07)","volume":"32 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2007-05-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123963783","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Firstly it determines if a time series aggregate is stationary. Secondly it confirms if the aggregate exhibits short-range dependence (SRD) or long-range dependence (LRD). Thirdly it detects if the smooth system operation has suddenly become irregular and chaotic. This detection is achieved by computing the instantaneous value of the Holder exponent that has a (0,1) range to accommodate different degrees of fractality. When the Holder exponent has wandered outside the (0,1) region, fractal breakdown has occurred. The capability of detecting such breakdowns by a real-time application enables it to avoid sudden failure. The Intel's VTune Performance Analyzer indicates the proposed model can be deployed in real time effectively. This feature is of importance to the reliability improvement of Web applications which run on the Internet","PeriodicalId":265471,"journal":{"name":"10th IEEE International Symposium on Object and Component-Oriented Real-Time Distributed Computing (ISORC'07)","volume":"55 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2007-05-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115060321","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

To date there have been very limited systematic studies evaluating different approaches to integrating real-time publish/subscribe services in QoS-enabled component middleware. This paper makes two contributions in addressing these key research questions. First, we evaluate the pros and cons of three different design alternatives for integrating publish/subscribe services within QoS-enabled component middleware. Second, we empirically evaluate the performance of our container-based design and compare it with mature object-oriented real-time publish/subscribe implementations. Our studies reveal that both the performance and scalability of our design and implementation are comparable to its object-oriented counterpart, which provides a key guidance to the suitability of component technologies for DRE systems.","PeriodicalId":265471,"journal":{"name":"10th IEEE International Symposium on Object and Component-Oriented Real-Time Distributed Computing (ISORC'07)","volume":"32 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2007-05-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124567870","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
