This work describes a dynamic mathematical model for a bioprocess, which takes place into a Continuous Stirred Tank Bioreactor with delay in the recycle stream, containing four unknown parameters, which were calibrated using particle swarm optimization through the minimization of an evaluation function. Two kinetic expressions, the Monod and Haldane equations, commonly employed to describe microbial growth were tested in the model simulations. The identification problem is formulated as a multi-modal numerical optimization problem with high dimension. The performances of the identification methods are analyzed by numerical simulations.","PeriodicalId":265358,"journal":{"name":"2nd International Conference on Systems and Computer Science","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-10-17","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131811442","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The project described in this article focuses on harvesting energy from the environment through as many ways as possible, and efficiently using the harvested energy in off-grid buildings, dynamically adapting the consumption to currently available energy levels. The main energy sources to be used for harvesting are: solar energy, wind energy, wasted wireless communication energy and hydro energy. Through its web and Android interfaces, the project offers functionalities such as analyzing energy harvesting efficiency, monitoring building-wide energy consumption, setting up profiles and managing consumers individually.","PeriodicalId":265358,"journal":{"name":"2nd International Conference on Systems and Computer Science","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-10-17","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130697301","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Data access and/or data possession can determine positions of privilege, but the real competitive advantage will derive more and more from the ability to identify relevant dimensions and flows and, of course, from that to extract meaningful multidimensional descriptions aimed at detecting and foreseeing emergent behaviors (particularly relevant those concerning small communities) or, in other words, from the ability to transform “big data” into”smart data”. Prerequisite for obtaining this goal is the identification of appropriate models and adequate spaces of representation that may inspire the development of appropriate strategies and methods of analysis. Few examples will be provided.","PeriodicalId":265358,"journal":{"name":"2nd International Conference on Systems and Computer Science","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-10-17","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127337560","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A multi-level system architecture is described which relays acquired data and alerts to relevant third parties. Its main purpose is to build a system that monitors the house of a patient and is capable of collecting data from all the nodes. The system contains ambient sensors that monitor temperature, humidity, pressure and light. Beside the ambient sensors, the network also contains body sensors situated on the patient that monitor different health parameters like temperature, heart rate and motion capture. Efficient correlation among the two data-sets can lead to rapid response in case of an emergency with a high degree of autonomy and independent living for the patient.","PeriodicalId":265358,"journal":{"name":"2nd International Conference on Systems and Computer Science","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-10-17","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115336717","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The system takes as input plain text (product review for instance) and uses two different resources for tagging the sentiment words: a sentiment words dictionary and SentiWordNet. Once the sentiment words are identified, the initial text is annotated with segmentation markers when polarity shifts. The system also outputs the counts of positive and negative sentiment words found in text and optionally annotates them with their valence.","PeriodicalId":265358,"journal":{"name":"2nd International Conference on Systems and Computer Science","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-10-17","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124733675","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

According to the extensive literature, numerous results have been already developed to stabilize dissipative systems. However, they are still not explored enough in the context of MPC. Therefore, it naturally arises the need to investigate stability properties of dissipative dynamics for this particular class of controllers. In order to construct the efficient algorithm it is a fundamental requirement to get the full information about the plant dynamics. In general, this is very hard to obtain or, even not possible at all. Hence, we aim to stabilise the approximate dynamics containing a set of unknown parameters. Typically, for this type of problems the controller relies on a properly defined adaptation rule which forces the unknown parameter to converge inside a specified closed, convex set. Eventually, the controller drives the state solution to the optimal set-point. Asymptotic stability properties are analysed with respect to the specific quadratic supply rate and linear protocol. We assume that the output is available for a feedback all the time.","PeriodicalId":265358,"journal":{"name":"2nd International Conference on Systems and Computer Science","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-10-17","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129984605","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A simple identifiability condition, is derived by transforming the port-Hamiltonian systems to the observable canonical form. Indeed, the observable canonical form, gives the possibility to represent the transfer function in a simplified form, similar to ARMAX models, used in identification. In order to test the identifiability of Port-Controlled Hamiltonian systems, a test was realized in the case of a LC circuit.","PeriodicalId":265358,"journal":{"name":"2nd International Conference on Systems and Computer Science","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-10-17","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126845443","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The flexible transmission system, for which an optimal closed-loop solution is proposed, is represented by a 4th order complex plant, with a 2nd order delay, identified in open-loop[1] for which also a pole-placement control strategy is proposed. The closed-loop identification tests, with the flexible transmission system, are realized in the case of a constant-trace adaptation gain, with a parametric initialization starting from the parameters identified in open-loop.","PeriodicalId":265358,"journal":{"name":"2nd International Conference on Systems and Computer Science","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-10-17","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134251216","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
