The proposed detection method utilizes wavelet transform combined with artificial neural network to detect ferroresonance. Using this method, ferroresonance can be identified and differentiated. The results show that the proposed procedure is effective in identifying ferroresonance from other transients such as capacitor switching. Moreover, they indicate that the used neural network model has an acceptable precision in the recognition of ferroresonance and by adjusting the right parameters, the highest precision is achieved.","PeriodicalId":265345,"journal":{"name":"2017 7th International Conference on Modeling, Simulation, and Applied Optimization (ICMSAO)","volume":"126 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-04-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116312483","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Due to the expansion of well-equipped smart buildings that feature multitudes of sensors and meters that enable collection of large amounts of data, FDD data-based methods have become very popular. Sensor and meter data, however, have been found as insufficient for FDD purposes, and it needs to be complemented with event/fault data that is more difficult to obtain. To account for the unavailability of event/fault data, BMS can benefit from sharing each other's data and utilize it for collaborative FDD. To support collaborative FDD and sharing of data, we rely on cloud computing. In this paper we present a framework for collaborative FDD of smart buildings that utilizes cloud computing and enables BMS to share and benefit from each other's data.","PeriodicalId":265345,"journal":{"name":"2017 7th International Conference on Modeling, Simulation, and Applied Optimization (ICMSAO)","volume":"6 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-04-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116473041","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, due to some shortcomings of these conventional materials, researchers are seeking new strengthening materials. This paper explores the use of Aluminum Alloy (AA) plates as a newly strengthening material. The bond between the strengthening material and the strengthened one is the most important factor in the success of the strengthening process. Therefore, the main objective of this paper is to model and simulate the behavior of bond stress-slip between AA plate and concrete surface. A finite element model for a single shear test has been developed and the results were compared to the experimental results. The bonded length of the AA plate is taken as 200 mm which represents 80% of the concrete prism length. It was observed that the bond stress, loading capacity and failure modes of AA were comparable with those of CFRP plates. This validates that AA plates can be used with confidence as externally bonded reinforcement EBR material.","PeriodicalId":265345,"journal":{"name":"2017 7th International Conference on Modeling, Simulation, and Applied Optimization (ICMSAO)","volume":"17 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-04-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122123839","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The aim of this study is to compare Xpert MTB/RIF and GenoType MTBDRplus to determine overall accuracy of diagnosis using these two tests. Based on search on PubMed, Embase and Google Scholar databases, publications were identified that compared Xpert MTB/RIF and GenoType MTBDRplus on the same dataset. A total of 6 studies with 4921 specimens were selected. Based on sensitivity and specificity, a pooled estimation of diagnostic odd ratio (DOR) and area under summary ROC curve (AUC) was calculated based on Random-Effect model. Both assays showed encouraging results for tuberculosis diagnosis but Xpert MTB/RIF depicted slightly better results based on recent studies.","PeriodicalId":265345,"journal":{"name":"2017 7th International Conference on Modeling, Simulation, and Applied Optimization (ICMSAO)","volume":"30 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-04-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124799640","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Safety and dependability of such systems are crucial especially for walking assist systems. In this paper, upper body joint model of a user of a walking assist system is extracted using a depth sensor and a probabilistic model is proposed to detect possible non-walking states that might happen to the user. The 3D model of upper body skeleton, is reduced in dimension by applying Principal Component Analysis (PCA). The principal components are tested to have a normal distribution allowing a multivariate normal distribution fitting for walking data. The model is shown to be capable of recognizing four different falling scenarios and sitting. In these non-walking states, the motion of a passive-type walker called “RT Walker”, is controlled by generating brake force to assure fall prevention and sitting/standing up support. The experimental data is gathered from an experienced physical therapist capable of imitating different walking problems.","PeriodicalId":265345,"journal":{"name":"2017 7th International Conference on Modeling, Simulation, and Applied Optimization (ICMSAO)","volume":"50 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-04-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131714762","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The placement problem involves determining the optimal number and locations of DAPs, while maintaining a desired level of quality for each communication link that connects a smart meter to its associated DAP. Having smart meters on different feeders in the power network, connecting to the same DAP in the communication network may lead to inefficient data aggregation. Therefore, the placement problem must not consider the communication network in isolation from the power network. In this paper, a DAP placement scheme is proposed to jointly consider the topologies of both power and communication networks, in achieving a higher communication efficiency, and fulfilling a desired level of transmission reliability. In the proposed scheme, a mixed-integer non-linear optimization is formulated to determine the number and locations of DAPs that would reduce the delay in the network, so that the amount of data traffic and the system cost are minimized. Numerical results show that having the number of DAPs equals to the number of feeders is the optimal one. In addition, it is concluded that having less number of feeders and lower data arrival rate would lead to a smaller delay.","PeriodicalId":265345,"journal":{"name":"2017 7th International Conference on Modeling, Simulation, and Applied Optimization (ICMSAO)","volume":"65 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-04-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115772473","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It is a hydrodynamic device that has most influence on the transient response of a vehicle such as gear shifting and vehicle launching. In order to study such characteristics accurately, dynamic analysis of the torque converter is necessary. The zero order torque converter model of Kotwicki has been widely used for control design purposes, since the dynamic modeling method has not been readily available to control engineers. A dynamic model for the stand-alone torque converter system that allows mathematical analysis and performance prediction for transient powertrain controls based on four-first order nonlinear differential equations is presented. The results confirm that the model predicts hydrodynamic torque converter dynamic response accurately, the prediction being robust to variation of the operating condition.","PeriodicalId":265345,"journal":{"name":"2017 7th International Conference on Modeling, Simulation, and Applied Optimization (ICMSAO)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-04-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116216256","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This advantage, however, performs well in high signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) albeit requiring infinite iterations at low SNR, thereby resulting in more unwanted computations and decoding delays. In this paper, a simple turning point (TP) measurement from the BER and average iteration number (AIN) graphs of the Genie stopping criterion has been introduced. The motivation is twofold; to terminate the iteration at the early stage in low SNR and maintaining the same level of performance of the existing method in high SNR, by using the proposed TP measurement. From the simulation results, the enhanced CE-based stopping criteria improve the early termination in low SNR and maintain the BER performance for various frame sizes compared to existing stopping criteria.","PeriodicalId":265345,"journal":{"name":"2017 7th International Conference on Modeling, Simulation, and Applied Optimization (ICMSAO)","volume":"78 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-04-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"117199103","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
