The two objective functions pertaining to minimization of CO2 emissions and purchasing costs are in some cases conflicting and are thus considered separately. This paper presents an exact method to solve the proposed bi-objective optimization model where the bi-objective mathematical model is transformed into a single objective function model using the weighted comprehensive criterion method. The model is solved using branch and cut algorithm in MATLAB software. Computational experiments were carried out using two random instances, and the results show that the algorithm gives the bi-objective Pareto optimal solutions with significant difference in computation times when the speed is constant or varies between the routes. Using different weighting factors, this model can be considered as a decision making tool that allows decision makers to use the solution that fits the most with their organization's strategy.","PeriodicalId":265345,"journal":{"name":"2017 7th International Conference on Modeling, Simulation, and Applied Optimization (ICMSAO)","volume":"66 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-04-04","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132500608","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The principal objective is to design a standalone renewable energy system to meet the desired electric load with high renewable fraction, low excess power and low cost of energy. Hourly simulations and optimization were performed to determine the performance and cost of the different hybrid power configurations. The results show that the solar PV/Diesel generator/battery/inverter power system offers the best performance compared to PV/Diesel generator/inverter; Diesel generator/battery/inverter and Diesel generator alone. From the total energy produced from the hybrid system, 87.6 % is used to meet all the AC load, 7.8 % is the excess electricity and 4.6 % are the system losses in both the battery and inverter. The proposed hybrid power system is sustainable, economically viable and environmentally friendly: high renewable fraction (53.25%), low excess power (7.8%), low levelized cost of energy (0.286 $/kWh), and low carbon dioxide emissions (67756 kg CO2/year).","PeriodicalId":265345,"journal":{"name":"2017 7th International Conference on Modeling, Simulation, and Applied Optimization (ICMSAO)","volume":"25 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-04-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115723159","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The two activated charcoals used in this study (PAC1 and PAC2) were powders. The desulfurization for diesel fuel was done at room temperature using 10 % by mass of the adsorbents with contact time of 1 hour. The surface chemistry and structure of the sorbent materials were studied using surface area analyzer and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) integrated with energy dispersive spectroscopy (EDS). The desulfurization process was evaluated using X-ray fluorescence analyzer. The activated charcoal samples showed to reduce the sulfur content down to 66.2% of the original sulfur content (398 ppm). The metal content of the sorbent materials, before and after desulfurization process, was determined using inductively coupled plasma (ICP) technique. Prior to analysis, the samples were prepared using microwave acid digestion. The desulfurization process resulted in a lower metal content in the fuel. The effect of the desulfurization process on the ignition quality, physical and chemical properties of the diesel fuel was studied. The amount of carbon residue, diesel index, calculated cetane index, and carbon aromaticity were evaluated. The ignition quality of the diesel fuel was improved by the adsorption desulfurization.","PeriodicalId":265345,"journal":{"name":"2017 7th International Conference on Modeling, Simulation, and Applied Optimization (ICMSAO)","volume":"17 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-04-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123066590","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

From engineering point of view there are two important questions: (i) how it is possible to avoid delamination failure in structures and (ii) how to reduce a propagation of delamination failure mode. In our work we intend to propose a general method of solutions using stacking sequence optimization. Two general optimization problems are formulated and each of them corresponds to the above mentioned problems, and then solved with the use of genetic algorithms. The analysis deals with compressed cylindrical shell.","PeriodicalId":265345,"journal":{"name":"2017 7th International Conference on Modeling, Simulation, and Applied Optimization (ICMSAO)","volume":"5 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-04-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"117281955","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The solutions of such class of problems become difficult as we use probabilistic algorithms. Therefore, a general method using the Markov chain and stochastic equations is proposed to reduce the total number of iterations (computations) that are necessary to obtain a global optimum (or a quasi-global). The proposed method can be applied both for isotropic and anisotropic (composite laminates) structures. The method is illustrated by a numerical example.","PeriodicalId":265345,"journal":{"name":"2017 7th International Conference on Modeling, Simulation, and Applied Optimization (ICMSAO)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-04-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125808810","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this paper, we present our novel approach of predicting universities for graduate studies based on one's whole profile. A model is built which is able to predict the list of top-‘n’ universities based on the user profile. In our implementation, a user profile comprises one's undergraduate grades, graduate examination scores of GRE or GMAT, other exams like TOEFL, research experience and publications, work experience, and number of relevant projects. Data is collected from a variety of sources comprising peoples' profiles, who got through to graduate programs and is fed into the model, in order to serve as benchmark for an incoming query. For the model to predict the list of universities best suiting the user, Collaborative Filtering is used in order to compare the user's profile to the existing dataset. The output is a list of universities, to which an individual could apply to, based on the profile.","PeriodicalId":265345,"journal":{"name":"2017 7th International Conference on Modeling, Simulation, and Applied Optimization (ICMSAO)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-04-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126637720","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The designed PLL architecture acts as a frequency synthesizer to provide three distinct frequencies of 800 MHz, 2.0 GHz, and 2.4 GHz to the respective chips of the digital radar system. Full frequency plan and spurs analysis have been conducted. The outcome shows that it is best to implement the frequency synthesizer off the chip where the main transceiver is being developed. This ensures both full synchronization of the transmitter and receivers as well as reduced on-chip interference. Each component of the PLL system is individually designed using a suitable simulation program. The components are then combined to provide the overall PLL system delivering the desired frequencies.","PeriodicalId":265345,"journal":{"name":"2017 7th International Conference on Modeling, Simulation, and Applied Optimization (ICMSAO)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-04-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129319838","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Estimation as an important part of the calibration has been conducted by using various algorithms. This paper presents the implementation of nonlinear least squares (Gaussian least squares differential correction) algorithm to estimate the geometrical parameters of 3PRR planar parallel kinematics manipulator having nonlinear kinematics which can be used in a hybrid serial-parallel kinematics machine tool. The independent parameters are first estimated followed by the dependent parameters. The convergence to the true values with zero estimation error is guaranteed with any initial estimates provided that no measurement noise is introduced. Subsequently, the estimation by incorporating noise from all measurement devices is conducted which gives the estimates with certain estimation errors. While the estimation errors are affected by the noise level of the measurement devices, it is shown that larger size of measurement samples increases the estimation accuracy. Finally, the uncertainty of the estimates is evaluated by using Monte Carlo simulation.","PeriodicalId":265345,"journal":{"name":"2017 7th International Conference on Modeling, Simulation, and Applied Optimization (ICMSAO)","volume":"65 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-04-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126992719","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
