On this occasion is rectifi ed a regrettable confusion (owing to M. Neagoe in his recent article, see footnotes 3 and 6) made between this piece and other one discovered at Cârna-Ostrovogania, in Grave no. 46, in a Žuto Brdo-Gârla Mare cemetery. \" e article is a good opportunity to re-discuss the other pieces representing miniatures of shoes or of human feet known in the area of Gârla Mare culture, most of them founded in southern Oltenia. Equally, older debates concerning the functions and possible signifi cances of these miniature fi gurines, sometimes confused with waterfowl protome, are resumed. \" e author expressed her doubts that clay miniatures of shoes could be pendants worn around the neck, and believes that the low number of such pieces, in comparison with other fi gurines (anthropomorphic statuettes, waterfowl protomae etc.), on this way discouraged the idea that these pieces have any religious or spiritual connotations. \" e author maintains a working hypothesis, expressed with another occasion that such pieces could be attached to any version of anthropomorphic statuettes belonging to I A2 variant characterized by a vertical channel that goes through the bust of the fi gurines. To this variant of fi gurines occurs, on the skirt or at the hip, some perforations with still unknown utility.","PeriodicalId":265051,"journal":{"name":"Analele Banatului XX 2012","volume":"36 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133593320","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

On the territory of ancient Banat coffins or other types of wooden funerary structures, are present in five unmarked necropolises (Szeged – Szőreg, homokbánya, Kiszombor B, Vojlovica – Pančevo, Foeni, Giarmata) and two barrow necropolises (Vizejdia/ Vizesd – Puszta and maybe Dudeștii Vechi/ Óbesenyő)2. Probably the number of coffins was higher, but due to environmental condition, robberies and incomplete documentation especially on barrow graves, the information concerning the funerary wooden structure are seriously lacking in details. Despite all of this, on the territory of ancient Banat, extremely varied wooden structures have been documented: box shaped coffi ns, possibly even burial chambers (at Vizejdia), coffi ns made out of thee trunks (closed with “S” and “C” shaped iron clamps) and funerary stretchers, on which the deceased was placed for transportation and, ultimately, buried with it3. All this diff erent wooden arrangements refl ect various infl uences: eastern remnants, roman funerary rites, but also local traditions, all of which give us clues towards the complexity of funerary rites and the diff erences within the Sarmatians tribes settled in Banat.","PeriodicalId":265051,"journal":{"name":"Analele Banatului XX 2012","volume":"31 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129600614","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It is possible that the bracelet could be a piece from a bronze hoard lost today. Broken from old time, the bracelet is decorated by incisions (Fig. 2). From the morphological point of view the most important element is the triangular section, so it could say that the piece belong to a large category defi ned on this element. Such bracelets are typical for the hoards belonging to the so called Cincu-Suseni type, from the beginning of the Early Iron Age (Hallstatt A) especially in Transylvania (Fig. 3).In the area of the lake Bistreţ were searched some objects with fl utted pottery belonging to the same period, to the so called Vârtop culture. In 1730 there were already about 30 schools in Banat. In the elementary schools, the teacher was elected by the local community and in the early period he had also the responsibilities of an organist and notary of the commune. Together with the priest and the mayor, they formed the elite of the village. The first secondary school, a secondary school with teaching in Latin, was founded by the Jesuit Order on November 6th, 1725. At its peak it had six classes, three teachers and the number of students varied between 50 and 70. The austro-ottoman war of 1737–1739 led to the destruction of many villages colonized by germans in the south of Banat and affected the school system. The main purpose of the German Catholic elementary schools was education in the spirit of religion by teaching reading, writing and church music. After the end of the war and the colonization during the reign of Queen Maria Theresa, the number of village schools in German language grew rapidly. A new stage in the history of German education in Banat was marked by the introduction in the province of a new school reform. “Die allgemeine Schulordnung für die deutschen Normal-, Haupt- und Trivialschulen” was sanctioned by the Queen on December 4, 1774. One of the fi rst measures of the administration of the province was the foundation of a Normalschule and of a school board to which all schools of the province were subordinated. \" e teachers showed a lot of interest in the new method of teaching, so that at the end of 1777, the school board found that almost all teachers of German schools participated in courses to get used to the new teaching methods. \" e progresses made in this respect on the territory of the military border were even faster as the Aulic War Council sent several teachers for training in the Normalschule in Vienna. In 1787, there were 30 schools with 37 teachers and 1407 students in this territory. Despite some shortcomings, this school reform led to undeniable progress, tripling the number of schools between 1766 and 1801. With the incorporation of Banat in Hungary in 1779, the place of the “Allgemeine Schulordnung…” was taken by “Ratio Educationis”, introduced in Hungary in 1777. In the first half of the XIX-th century the German language schools suffered a slight decline, especially as the attempts to gradually impose Hungarian language in public life and school multiplied. After the revolution of 1848–1849 and the organization of the new province “Serbische Woiwodschaft und Temeser Banat”, which had its center in Timisoara and was directly subordinated to the central authority in Vienna, the ministry introduced German as language of instruction in secondary schools. In elementary schools, the teaching language corresponded to the native language of the majority of the students.
