We have used both quantitative and qualitative methods, each offering a different level of insight. In this paper we would like to present how an investigation can benefit from using all of those methods. We start by using quantitative methods that provide us an overall perspective, from which we can focus on specific segments of data that represent points of interest on which we apply qualitative methods that provide a more detailed perspective. Therefore, we begin our evaluation by using web analytics and advance towards the state of the art concept data analysis methods, like Formal Concept Analysis. The investigation has been conducted on a locally developed e-learning platform called PULSE. However, these methods can be applied to any other e-learning platform.","PeriodicalId":264787,"journal":{"name":"2015 23rd International Conference on Software, Telecommunications and Computer Networks (SoftCOM)","volume":"50 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-11-02","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122491678","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

As a result, the range limit of the technology is no more present, which enables the creation of extensive, and complex network applications. However the modifications were done only in the lower layers, leaving the Attribute Protocol (ATT), and the Generic Attribute Profile (GATT) layers untouched, which is a significant drawback in the development of multihop network applications. In this paper the concept of Service Mediation is introduced, that is based on Named Data Networking (NDN) approach, and not only holds the solution of this problem within, but also shows great potential to create intelligent, automatic and teachable networks and applications. The experimental development and the preliminary validation tests showed satisfactory results also, which enables the approach to be used in real-world environments.","PeriodicalId":264787,"journal":{"name":"2015 23rd International Conference on Software, Telecommunications and Computer Networks (SoftCOM)","volume":"16 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-11-02","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133694015","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Today, using wireless communication for electrical machines is interesting for both real time monitoring and diagnosis purposes. In this paper, our contribution is to study a new technique to monitor the rotating electrical machines using wireless communication IEEE 802.11. The protocol IEEE 802.11 is recommended for this type of applications because it provides a faster connection and better security. Using the application of wireless communication to monitor the rotating electrical machines is not self-evident, as the ElectroMagnetic Compatibility (EMC) problem between devices isn't necessarily guaranteed. So, a study of the electromagnetic field to obtain a good reliability for wireless communication is crucial. This paper studies the effect of the rotating electrical machine flux. This study, based on Finite Element Method (FEM) offers much more information on the phenomena characterizing the operation of electrical machines. Finally, the experimental results of rotating component are built to validate the feasibility of the proposed system and to study electromagnetic wave propagation characteristics of both stationary and rotating transmitter inside and outside electrical machine.","PeriodicalId":264787,"journal":{"name":"2015 23rd International Conference on Software, Telecommunications and Computer Networks (SoftCOM)","volume":"48 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-11-02","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134409598","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The antenna consists of one linear array with six series-fed patch antennas. In radar and smart-antenna applications it is very important to use antennas with high gain and low sidelobes in order to avoid the interference and to increase the gain of antenna array. The aim of this research is to design an antenna array that has suppressed sidelobes as much as possible in azimuth by using Kaiser-Bessel amplitude coefficients. Our designed antenna has a gain of 15.1 dB with an angular width of 14.6° at a frequency of 2.4 GHz. The measured 10 dB return loss bandwidth equals 18.7 MHz. Patch antenna array is analyzed using CST MICROWAVE STUDIO 2014.","PeriodicalId":264787,"journal":{"name":"2015 23rd International Conference on Software, Telecommunications and Computer Networks (SoftCOM)","volume":"66 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-11-02","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126979411","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

After each idle time a new busy period is being initialized simultaneously with the Nth arrival occurrence, where the threshold value N is fixed. By applying the approach being a mixture of different theoretical techniques: the idea of embedded Markov chain, Volterra type integral equations, continuous total probability law, renewal theory and linear algebra, a closed-form formula for the mixed double transform (probability generating function of Laplace transform) of the probability distribution of the number of packets completely processed up to fixed time t is derived. The considered queueing system can be used in modeling the operation of a wireless sensor network (WSN) with power saving mechanism based on “queued” waking up of radio transmitters/receivers of nodes (sensors). An illustrating numerical example for a hypothetical network traffic is attached as well.","PeriodicalId":264787,"journal":{"name":"2015 23rd International Conference on Software, Telecommunications and Computer Networks (SoftCOM)","volume":"29 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-11-02","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114923921","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This issue is the direct result of two major features: the frequency reuse factor equal to one and the heterogeneous deployment of networks (HetNets). Many solutions have been proposed by the 3GPP project since its early Release 8 in order to mitigate interference. The most recent one is Coordinated Multi Point (CoMP) which implies that a set of transmit points provide coordinated transmission in the downlink. However, this is not possible during Handover scenarios since LTE-Advanced networks and beyond implement hard handover which requires a single connection for each user at any time. In this paper, we propose a new Handover algorithm based on CoMP joint transmission scheme in order to minimize the Inter Cell Interference (ICI). Performance evaluation results show that our proposed algorithm considerably reduces the ICI level and enhances the average throughput per user during Handover.","PeriodicalId":264787,"journal":{"name":"2015 23rd International Conference on Software, Telecommunications and Computer Networks (SoftCOM)","volume":"93 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-11-02","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133234085","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
