From the various reports recently released by the committees set up at the Ministry of International Trade and Industry, the Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications, the Management and Coordination Agency, the Japanese Industrial Standards Committee (JISC), and other ministries and agencies, those related to the OSI are summarized. An outline of the various policies being developed in response to these reports is presented.<<ETX>>","PeriodicalId":262795,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 6th International Conference on the Application of Standards for Open Systems","volume":"5 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1990-10-02","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122722137","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The market is evaluated, with emphasis on the issue of data networks versus ISDN. Topics associated with PC communication, teletex terminals, and telefax in the ISDN are addressed. It is concluded that OSI is of high value in certain areas, but it should be admitted that large quantities of low-cost simple terminals which do not conflict with an orderly evolution of the OSI architecture are of value both for the user and the ISDN.<<ETX>>","PeriodicalId":262795,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 6th International Conference on the Application of Standards for Open Systems","volume":"110 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1990-10-02","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125176573","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
