The coherent oscillation frequency and the mean direction of the random collective pinning force of the vortex bundles are evaluated by applying the random walk theorem. The flow velocity of the vortex bundles is obtained self-consistently. The temperature- and field-dependent Hall and longitudinal resistivities induced by the bundle flow for type-II superconducting bulk materials and thin films are calculated. All the results are in agreement with the experiments. Data reported in the literature for the most established technologies, like SNS (Superconductor-Normal conductor-Superconductor), SINIS (Superconductor- Insulator-Normal conductor-Insulator-Superconductor) and others, are analyzed and compared. The properties of Nb/Al- AlOx/Nb overdamped SNIS (Superconductor-Normal conductor-Insulator-Superconductor) Josephson junctions developed at INRiM are also presented, since these junctions can optimize crucial parameters such as the current density and the characteristic voltage. Operation at temperatures above 4.2 K is also discussed, in view of using cryocooler setups to replace liquid helium refrigeration systems.","PeriodicalId":262552,"journal":{"name":"The Open Superconductors Journal","volume":"57 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-02-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126956696","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The studied ground state compounds of the new FeAs based superconductor family crystallize in tetragonal P4/nmm structure, with lattice parameters variation following their ionic radii. The resistivity measurements exhibit clearly the appearance of a metallic step below say 150-130 K, which is reminiscent of the SDW (Spin Density Wave) magnetic character. Also, It is observed that oxygen stoichiometric ReFeAsO is not formed and rather the same is slightly oxygen deficient. The Mossbauer spectroscopy (MS) carried out on some of them at 290 K and 90 K i.e. both above and below the SDW temperature exhibits the Fe ordered state at 90 K. Further the MS is proved to be the most efficient technique in picking up the FeAs based impurities in these materials. The heat capacity measurements on SmFeAsO, clearly demonstrates the SDW temperature with a hump in Cp(T) at around 130 K. Further Sm spins are ordered anti-ferro-magnetically (AFM) at 4.5 K. Superconductivity is also induced in SmFeAsO with Co substitution at Fe site with Tc = 14 K. The general behavior of the ReFeAsO is discussed and it is concluded that (a) they can be synthesized by an easy and versatile methods, (b) their ground state is not oxygen stoichiometric, but deficient and (c) MS is the most efficient technique to pick up the Fe based impurities in these materials, that is yet rampant in this new class of superconductors.","PeriodicalId":262552,"journal":{"name":"The Open Superconductors Journal","volume":"227 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-08-11","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126843378","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The precursor particle size effect on Bi-2223 phase growth was studied, as well. Precursors in this experiment were made by four different techniques with different particle sizes, and samples were sintered at same temperature for different sintering time. For the four different precursors, the amount of 2223 phase in the reactant was determined by analysis of X-ray diffraction. Experimental results were analyzed in the view of 2223 phase growth kinetics. Particle size dependence of the mean lifetime of 2212 and 2223 phases were studied. And the effects of special area of precursor particle on 2223 crystal growth were also analyzed. The velocity of the 2223 phase growth was investigated, which was found to be dependent on both the precursor particles' diameter and its total surface area. The velocity of the 2223 phase decomposition was determined, as well. The optimum sintering time tmax and maximum amount of 2223 phase were calculated, and they were found to be dependent on the mean lifetime of 2212 and 2223 phases. When the particle size decreases, the optimum sintering time decreases, and the maximum amount of 2223 phase increases.","PeriodicalId":262552,"journal":{"name":"The Open Superconductors Journal","volume":"125 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-07-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121186135","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It is found that the core levels of Pb4f and O1s states shift towards low energy with the mercury doping induced, and at the meantime, the core level of Bi4f state shifts towards high energy. The results and analyses reveal that the mercury doping induces a systematic change of the electronic structure of the system, which consequently affects the superconductivity. Accordingly, the suppression of superconductivity at low doping level (x<0.2) is attributed to sup- pressed charge-disproportionate state whereas the recovery of the superconductivity in the doping level region 0.3<x 0.4 is due to a new M-I transition which converts the system from an insulating state to metallic one with the dominant carri- ers of charge being holes.","PeriodicalId":262552,"journal":{"name":"The Open Superconductors Journal","volume":"32 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-02-27","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124908935","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
