NSIs are associated with an increased risk of diseases that can be transferred through skin exposure, such as Hepatitis B, Hepatitis C, and the human immunodeficiency virus. Certain factors can influence the mechanism and frequency of NSI among nurses. Objective: To determine the factors associated with the frequency and mechanisms of NSIs among nurses at a public hospital in Selangor. Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted from April to September 2020. A total of 233 nurses were conveniently sampled from a public hospital in Selangor. A questionnaire was distributed to capture data on socio-demographic characteristics, frequency, and mechanisms of NSI. The inferential statistics were conducted using SPSS 22. Results: Of the 233 respondents, the incidence rate of NSI was 23.6%. Most cases of NSI occurred during the morning shift (12.4%), and the most common mechanism of NSIs was the action of recapping needles (6.9%). Factors associated with the NSI were gender, age, ward, and working experience. Conclusion: The prevalence of NSIs is relatively low in this study. However, nurses should still apply universal precautions to prevent NSIs. Several risk factors that influenced the NSI should be highlighted among nurses and nursing management to prevent its incidence.","PeriodicalId":261912,"journal":{"name":"Malaysian Journal of Nursing","volume":"65 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126750807","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

One way to detect Covid-19 is the RT-PCR method. This method is a must that is applied to preoperative patients in the operating room. The purpose of this study was to determine the level of anxiety in preoperative patients with RT-PCR swab results Methods: Research design was correlation analytic with cross-sectional approach. The population was preoperative patients with RT-PCR swab procedure in operating room from July-September 2021. There were 36 respondents with purposive sampling. Anxiety instrument was done with Hamilton Rating Scale for Anxiety (HARS). The data were analyzed by using the Spearman Rho test. Results: The results of this study showed that the most dominant level of anxiety experienced moderate anxiety with an level of 30.6%, while the level of severe anxiety reached 13.9%. The Spearman test showed that there was a relationship between the results of the RT-PCR swab and the level of anxiety in preoperative patients, namely a very strong relationship p = 0.000 (p <0.05) and r = 0.594. Conclusion: The implication of the study showed that the results of the RT-PCR swab detection of Covid-19 preoperative patients had the most positive reaction, where the patient had delayed surgery and would undergo self-isolation. The anxiety level of preoperative patients was most dominant experiencing moderate anxiety due to delaying in surgery. Development and distribution of leaflets as a tool to provide education on surgical services and management of preoperative surgical precautions before undergoing RT-PCR swabs are recommended.","PeriodicalId":261912,"journal":{"name":"Malaysian Journal of Nursing","volume":"22 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132560275","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

As hospitals have more patients, the ED becomes overcrowded with non-emergency patients. An inaccurate triage decision not only delays patient treatment but also incurs unnecessary expenses for the facility. Patients in the waiting area should be reassessed to determine their conditions. Treatment for patients on a first-come, first-served basis without regard to the triage acuity level of their illnesses for severity, may result in delays for critically ill patients. The rationale of triage in the ED is to prioritize incoming patients and identify those who need to be seen first. Methods: Descriptive study using cross-sectional questionnaires for non-random sampling. Quantitative approaches were chosen as the study type. Questionnaires were completed by 41 of the selected sample size. The aim of the study is to determine the level of knowledge and skills in triage assessment among nurses in Emergency Department Hospitals in Saudi Arabia. Results: Response rates of 100% were obtained from the study. 19 (46.3%) of the participants were aged between 31-40 years old. Most of the respondents have Bachelor’s in nursing which are 38 (92.7%). Respondents with experience in ED of about 11-20 years are 18 (43.9%) of the total. 100% of respondents say that they are familiar with the Canadian Triage and Acuity Scale (CTAS) triage primary assessment. 100% will change the CTAS level when the patient deteriorates, and 100% agreed to give Paracetamol to the patient with a body temperature of more than 38 degrees. Seven skill level questions were completed with 100% correct answers. There is no significant relationship between triage knowledge and triage skill Conclusion: This finding indicates that there is a high level of knowledge and skill in triage assessment. Hence high knowledge and good skill should be maintained by continuing education, in-service, and training.","PeriodicalId":261912,"journal":{"name":"Malaysian Journal of Nursing","volume":"29 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134414198","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
