This original implementation of this control algorithm was limited to a 60-Hz sampling rate. A direct conversion of the original implementation of the algorithm to the C language provided a small speed increase. Detailed profiling tests of functional blocks indicated that the exclusive use of integer calculations, avoidance of integer division, and the use of look-up tables provided the most efficient operation. The final C version of the algorithm resulted in sampling rates of 400/500 Hz (with/without data storage for postprocessing). A special version of the program increased the sampling rates to 625/770 Hz (with/without data storage).","PeriodicalId":260036,"journal":{"name":"1993 (25th) Southeastern Symposium on System Theory","volume":"283 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1993-03-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116093991","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Optimization methods are investigated to obtain not only the best method, but also alternate methods which provide high quality results in reasonable time. The colormap generation is presented as a two step process which includes an initial colormap selection followed by the optimization of the colormap. Three optimization techniques are investigated: the Linde-Buzo-Gray method, simulated annealing, and a new minimum variance method developed by the authors. Color images with an original 32,768 possible colors are coded using only 256 colors.","PeriodicalId":260036,"journal":{"name":"1993 (25th) Southeastern Symposium on System Theory","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1993-03-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114938998","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The wideband properties of the signal render the single-number radar cross section (RCS) inadequate for target response simulations. Instead, a characteristic function describing the response of the target to the waveform must be obtained in either the time or frequency domain. A first approximation to the temporal impulse response of a target can be obtained from physical optics (PO). The target's response can then be obtained by convolving the signal with the temporal impulse response of the target. A computational method for obtaining a PO signal response is described, and the results are compared to analytic responses for some primitive volumes (flat plate, cone, sphere).","PeriodicalId":260036,"journal":{"name":"1993 (25th) Southeastern Symposium on System Theory","volume":"65 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1993-03-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128944562","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

They assume known spatial frequencies and use this knowledge to reduce the number of parameters required for estimating the disturbance. Use of this partial knowledge of the disturbance is expedited by a continuous-time disturbance model implemented in a sampled data form (hybrid estimation). The estimated disturbance is then used to generate a feedforward compensation signal that is added to a feedback control signal to improve system performance. A difficulty encountered in performing the parameter estimation is the tendency of the parameters to vary with time given simple harmonic inputs. This tendency can be reduced by averaging but sensitivity to parameter variation is lost.","PeriodicalId":260036,"journal":{"name":"1993 (25th) Southeastern Symposium on System Theory","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1993-03-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122199613","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A thermoelectric cooler is used as the actuator and temperature sensing is performed by thermocouples. The changing of setpoints at various stages of the experiment is automatically performed by the computer, using the information from a particular process parameter. The procedure offers a significant improvement over presently available standard procedures, which offer little, if any, dynamic control over various physicochemical processes.","PeriodicalId":260036,"journal":{"name":"1993 (25th) Southeastern Symposium on System Theory","volume":"2 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1993-03-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134143735","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
