Two same types of robots are required and they are controlled with same position and force by bilateral control. One robot is in contact motion and the other is never contacted. The gravity and the friction effects can be identified by disturbance observer. A robot itself is used as a parameter identifier. Purity of external force is obtained by subtracting the disturbance torque in a noncontact robot from one in a contacted robot. Since this force sensing method does not need a parameter identification, it is very easy to implement it in multi-link manipulators. Sensor-less force control is one of the fundamental techniques for evolution of human-cooperating robots, tele-robotics, robotic virtual reality and so on. Force sensing based on twin robot system named \"Environment Quarrier\" will have a great impact on the academic society, industrial world, the field of medicine and so on. The numerical and experimental results show viability of the proposed method.","PeriodicalId":258936,"journal":{"name":"The 8th IEEE International Workshop on Advanced Motion Control, 2004. The theoretical analysis and experimental results show that changing the Q-filter's order fractionally can give a more effective way to adjust control system's frequency and time responses than just tuning it among integer orders. The tradeoff between stability margin loss and the strength of vibration suppression is a common problem in torsional system control. By introducing fractional order control (FOC) approach, control system can be designed more straightforwardly since control system's frequency responses can be altered between integer order control (IOC) system's continuously, while less control parameters are needed to be decided. Design process and experimental results demonstrate that an \"EASY & STRAIGHTFORWARD DESIGN\" can be achieved by introducing FOC control design concept. For implementation of the fractional order Q-filter, broken-line approximation method is applied. Even the realization issues for fractional order controllers are somewhat problematic. Experiment results show that the controllers can actually be realized quite acceptably.","PeriodicalId":258936,"journal":{"name":"The 8th IEEE International Workshop on Advanced Motion Control, 2004. This time, we measure joint angle and joint stiffness of human arm during force control. When tip force is large, human being selects the posture using joint torque minimum index. When tip force is small, human being selects the posture so that manipulability becomes large. Moreover, the wrist stiffness becomes large so as to keep the posture. In order to adapt for perturbation, a regulator to avoid joint torque saturation is introduced. The effectiveness of this strategy is confirmed by a simulation result of human arm.","PeriodicalId":258936,"journal":{"name":"The 8th IEEE International Workshop on Advanced Motion Control, 2004. The quality of the control is characterized by two quality figures, the voltage ripple and the voltage error. An optimum design method is described to realize good quality figures. When the output voltage is higher (lower) than the reference voltage the lower (higher) switching frequency is selected. In order to reduce the output voltage ripple the lower switching frequency is changed with the variation of the load. Calculation and simulation results of the two quality figures are presented and compared.","PeriodicalId":258936,"journal":{"name":"The 8th IEEE International Workshop on Advanced Motion Control, 2004. While human subjects perform on a trampoline, the researcher converts the action into information with a human model that has sixteen links and twelve joints under thirty-one-degrees-of-freedom. Performance is photographed with an infrared camera, and the captured images are turned into silhouette pictures through binary image processing. The silhouettes determine each joint angle, while modifying a model generated earlier. The continuous changes of joint angles during a flip are also calculated. All the data are finalized with animation.","PeriodicalId":258936,"journal":{"name":"The 8th IEEE International Workshop on Advanced Motion Control, 2004. In this paper, we propose flexible shoe system to apply passive walking manner to ordinary humanoid biped. This flexible shoe system works as an arc-shaped foot. Besides, a 2DOF(Feedforward & Feedback) control scheme is used in this system, that realizes walking with less ankle torque. Computer simulation study confirmed that this shoe system reduces about 80% of energy consumption of ankle joint in some cases. Using an actual small biped, we also confirmed that suitable stiffness shoes reduce about 8% of walking energy of the robot.","PeriodicalId":258936,"journal":{"name":"The 8th IEEE International Workshop on Advanced Motion Control, 2004. Therefore, the effect of windage vibrations caused by the airflow grows with spindle speed. The servo bandwidth is limited by the first-order resonant frequency of the mechanical system. However, the frequencies of the windage vibrations are higher than the first-order resonant frequency. Accordingly, these frequencies are also above the servo bandwidth and are too high to be controlled by a conventional control system. In response to this problem, we have developed two methods for designing a servo control system that can suppress windage vibrations. One method uses a stable mechanical resonant mode, and the other uses a stable resonant mode created by a digital filter. By using these methods, the head-positioning system can control the vibrations above the frequency of the first-order mechanical resonance and the servo bandwidth. Application of these methods to actual hard disk drives showed that they can greatly decrease the windage vibrations in which the peak frequency is about six times the open-loop gain 0-dB crossover frequency.","PeriodicalId":258936,"journal":{"name":"The 8th IEEE International Workshop on Advanced Motion Control, 2004. The delay in the closed loop deteriorates the stability margin because of the phase delay in high frequency region. The proposed method consists of three steps, (1) state estimation with state observer, (2) state prediction, and (3) state feedback of predicted state. For SISO(single input, single output) systems, the proposed method can be rewritten in the scheme of conventional disturbance observer design by using Youla parameterization. This result can be drawn by the analysis of the closed loop system poles and by applying the separation theorem. Improvement of the stability margin is confirmed by simulation in the track following mode of a hard disk drive with the synchronous servo scheme.","PeriodicalId":258936,"journal":{"name":"The 8th IEEE International Workshop on Advanced Motion Control, 2004.
