This model obtains credit risk information, such as default probability, from the market prices of bonds. The model simultaneously estimates implied default probability and recovery rate through comparison of the price fluctuation structure of issues. The market value of properties poses a problem since, as a general rule, real estate has low liquidity and transaction prices are not published. However, because investment corporations that issue investment corporation bonds proactively disclose information (property acquisition prices, NOI, etc.) about owned properties that serve as collateral assets, we can estimate the recovery rate from this information. Then, from market price data for investment corporation bonds, we can obtain new information, including the term structure of default probability for each bond rating and the validity of the pricing model.","PeriodicalId":257474,"journal":{"name":"2013 IEEE 6th International Workshop on Computational Intelligence and Applications (IWCIA)","volume":"12 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-07-13","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121165766","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

DE has been widely applied to solve various optimization problems. Additionally, many modified DE algorithms have been developed in an attempt to improve search performance. In this paper, we propose island-based DE with varying subpopulation size. Island model is one of the effective parallel distributed model in evolutionary algorithms. In the proposed method, total population is divided into independent sub-populations called islands. The basic island model uses same control parameters for each subpopulation. In contrast, we allocate different control parameters to each island. Therefore, each island has a different convergence characteristic by using own control parameters. At fixed generation intervals, migration among islands is performed in order to preserve diversity of subpopulation. Additionally, by incorporating the operation of individual transfer, proposed method can vary subpopulation dynamically according to the function landscape. Numerical experiments are performed to illustrate the performance of the proposed method compared with basic DE. The results show that the proposed method outperforms basic DE on standard test functions including various landscape features.","PeriodicalId":257474,"journal":{"name":"2013 IEEE 6th International Workshop on Computational Intelligence and Applications (IWCIA)","volume":"5 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-07-13","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125494647","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In AP, a single prototype tree, in which respective nodes have different pheromone tables, is prepared, and an ant searches solutions under the prototype tree. The structure of the prototype tree does not change during search. Therefore, premature convergence often occurs. To solve the problem, we propose parallel AP using genetic operators of GP. In this method, multiple prototype trees are generated and the structures change by GP operators such as selection, crossover and mutation. We applied our proposed method to symbolic regressions and logical function synthesis. As the results of experiments, our proposed method showed better performance than the conventional AP.","PeriodicalId":257474,"journal":{"name":"2013 IEEE 6th International Workshop on Computational Intelligence and Applications (IWCIA)","volume":"6 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-07-13","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124646273","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Such dynamics are usually associated with concept drift, which indicates changes in the underlying data distribution. In this paper, we present our current work that extends from our previous work where we applied data stream mining techniques to the prediction of Taiwan Stock Exchange Capitalization Weighted Stock Index Futures, or TAIEX Futures. In order to analyze the type of concept drift existing in the TAIEX Futures data, we study various methods and propose an ensemble based method. The proposed method uses Drift Detection Method to determine the number of instances given to a sub-classifier that is a component of an ensemble and corresponds to a concept. By observing changes of relative weights of sub-classifiers, we can determine whether a concept occurs repeatedly. Moreover, compared to another ensemble based method, the proposed method achieves higher accuracy without knowing a parameter that is important for another method.","PeriodicalId":257474,"journal":{"name":"2013 IEEE 6th International Workshop on Computational Intelligence and Applications (IWCIA)","volume":"56 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-07-13","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129519088","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

To give an RA diagnosis, a hand radiograph is taken and analyzed. Hand bone radiograph analysis starts with the detection of the boundary of bones. It is, however, an extremely exhausting and time consuming task for radiologists, not only because of the complexity, but also because of the precision required for a correct diagnosis. Automatic bone boundary detection is thus required. The Level Set Method has been widely used in boundary detection. However, the convergence and stability of the level set are strongly affected by the speed function and the parameters of the level set, which often leads to either a complete breakdown or a premature termination of the curve evolution process, resulting in unsatisfactory results. In this paper, we propose a modified speed function of the level set for bone boundary detection in hand radiographs. And in order to preserve the boundary of an image and to reduce noise, we further apply diffusion filter to substitute Gaussian Filter in the standard Level Set Method. Evaluating the experiments using a particular set of hand bones radiographs, the proposed method worked well for almost all of the images that we used.","PeriodicalId":257474,"journal":{"name":"2013 IEEE 6th International Workshop on Computational Intelligence and Applications (IWCIA)","volume":"42 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-07-13","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125904166","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In order to complete our purpose, the evaluation criteria for saddle setting by using bio-signals of a cyclist who pedals a bicycle have to be established firstly. We focus on patterns of muscle activity of the leg muscles that activate in pedaling exercise, and assume that undesirable pattern of muscle activity would appear in the pedaling motion of inexperienced cyclists. We use principal component analysis (PCA) to extract the features of muscle activity from the leg muscles. Our previous work has already clarified that the PCA scores come close to zero in the pedaling motion performed by a skilled cyclist at the saddle height which is subjectively evaluated good. In this paper, we add other degrees of freedoms of saddle setting such as fore-and-back position and angle adjustment to the experimental device. Surface electromyogram (SEMG) of the leg muscles has also been used to measure bio-signals of a cyclist during pedaling exercise. With the use of the aforementioned experimental environment, the effects of setting height and fore-and-back position to the pattern of muscle activity of the leg muscles are investigated in this paper.","PeriodicalId":257474,"journal":{"name":"2013 IEEE 6th International Workshop on Computational Intelligence and Applications (IWCIA)","volume":"23 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-07-13","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114190965","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Illumination problem is one of the most important aspects impeding the effectiveness of face detection. The well known Haar-like face detector developed by Viola and Jones is also largely weakened under adverse lighting conditions such as backlighting or uneven lighting. In this paper, a novel segmentation-based illumination normalization method is presented for the purpose of compensating non-uniform illuminations and increasing the robustness of Haar-like face detector. First Otsu method is employed to segment the input image. Then the proposed illumination normalization method called Half Histogram Truncation and Stretching (HHTS) is applied to locally attenuate the illumination and enhance the visibility of local patterns (facial structures). Finally Haar-like face detector is executed to locate faces. Experimental results show that it can remove non-uniform illuminations efficiently and significantly increase the performance of the original Haar-like face detector.","PeriodicalId":257474,"journal":{"name":"2013 IEEE 6th International Workshop on Computational Intelligence and Applications (IWCIA)","volume":"127 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-07-13","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122902528","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Our method is to learn relationship of pixel values between high-resolution (HR) image and low-resolution (LR) image using CGP, and we construct a SR rule of generating SR image from a LR input image. A single pixel and its neighbor pixels of the LR input image are set to the inputs of CGP. And then, pixel values of the SR image are obtained from the calculated outputs of CGP. Therefore, the SR image is generated from the LR input image. In addition, multiple CGP can improve the quality of SR image. Because our method is to perform for each pixel independently, our method is suitable to parallel processing. Therefore, in order to reduce computational cost, we use parallel processing with graphics processing unit (GPU). Experimental results show efficient processing is constructed. Our method is little less quality than one conventional work which is the state of the art method on image quality, however to perform overwhelmingly faster than the conventional work. We can construct fast and accurate single-frame super-resolution.","PeriodicalId":257474,"journal":{"name":"2013 IEEE 6th International Workshop on Computational Intelligence and Applications (IWCIA)","volume":"89 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-07-13","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116532661","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
