Suharyati","doi":"10.33751/albion.v4i1.5246","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.33751/albion.v4i1.5246","url":null,"abstract":"This study aims to analyze word stress and factors that cause the differences in pronunciation in the news reading videos of students majoring in Public Relations. Using the descriptive method, this study focuses on how students pronounce words stress by comparing the pronunciation with Standard American English (SAE). Through the transcription of the news reading, it is found that there are 30 words containing word stress. Working with 10 selected informants, results reveal that the students can pronounce 16 words with the correct stress. 11 words are pronounced in different syllables and 1 word is pronounced without stress. The rest of the data indicates diverse answers by the informants but still highlights the mispronunciation. This research uses the descriptive analysis method with data analysis techniques in the form of a literature study using the perspective of literary psychology and a psychological review of depression and intrinsic elements such as character and characterization, plot, conflict, and settings. The novel is set in Hungary in the 1950s during the Stalinist regime. The novel portrays the sufferings of lower-class people caused by the regime’s cruelty. On the other side, the novel also briefly portrays the good life of nomenklaturas or the upper-class people who supported the regime. Dissatisfied with the regime’s cruelty, the lowerclass people rose against the government, including the nomenklaturas that were close to the government. Moreover, it encompasses so many genres, especially horse horror films film has been well-known in the context of Indonesia’s film production. Horror films have a tight bond with the Indonesian audience since most people believe in mystical and supernatural occurrences. The existence of the religious leader becomes important to drive out the ghosts from hauntings. Maximum by Riza Pahlevi is one horror film that portrays the coming of the Islamic religious leader as the problem solver over the haunting problems in the movie. The purpose of this research is to analyze the representation of the Islamic religious leader in the film Makmum by Riza Pahlevi. The research made use of a qualitative approach and took the denotative and connotative semiotics concept by Roland Barthes. The data collection technique was conducted through document analysis. Extrinsic elements, namely psychological theories, through the perspective of psychoanalysis, are used to find out the factors that cause the character changes to occur in the main character. The research approach in this study is descriptive qualitative. All the metaphors in the two songs indicate that the pattern of comparison or similarity is patterns of form and appearance, position in structure, function, and space and time. Furthermore, the classification of social criticism based on social problems are matters related to mental health and environmental issues. The result of this study shows 268 words consist of derivational and inflectional affixes. Derivational affixes contain 59 words, with the process: Verb to Noun, Adjective to Noun, Adjective to Adverb, Verb to Adjective, Noun to Adjective, Noun to Verb, Verb to Verb, Adjective to Adjective, and Noun to Noun. Inflectional affixes consist of 209 words, with the process: -s or –es plural, -ing (progressive), -s third singular person, -ed past tense, -er (comparative), -est (superlative), -en (past participle), and ‘s (possessive). The most dominant and productive types of derivational and inflectional affixes are derivational suffixes and inflectional suffixes. This research uses descriptive methods and qualitative approaches to find correlations that have been mentioned previously. This study shows in several lines, the problem of racism experienced by the black race is described by the Spades card game. This study shows that the use of the Spades card game in the poetry is closely related to slavery during colonialism and the problem of discrimination against the black race during The Great Depression. This research process involves the whole story, intrinsic elements: characters and characterizations, settings, and conflicts, as well as extrinsic elements: gender discrimination, patriarchy systems, and power relations. This qualitative research is supported by descriptive analysis methods and literature study techniques which result in findings that politicized gender disparities are the cause of gender discrimination. The main character, Sabine, experiences several forms of gender discrimination namely limited access to education and not allowed to work. Her only choice is to be a good housewife with three to five husbands, and to bear as many children as possible. In addition, it has been recognized to be mediated quasi-interaction which shows a monological manner in term of the communication between the contents and the audience. It also can portray the representation of a certain culture in a particular country, specifically Indonesia. In addition to the local culture, Sundanese is the second ethnic majority that mostly dwell in the province of West Java. What is more, the ethnicity still shows rare portrayals on film since there are not many movies that incorporate the Sundanese culture into their stories. Rocker Balik Kampung (2018) by Uli Rahman is one of the films that integrates Sundanese culture to be the big theme. It focuses on a Sundanese rocker who has successfully made a living in the metropolitan city. Moreover, the chief of his village sends a messenger to look for him and bring him back to the village since he is going to get promoted to become the next chief in the village. Furthermore, he experiences dilemmas since he needs to encounter some protests from the notable village elder. This research was aimed at investigating Sundanese values and ideology on Rocker Balik Kampung (2018) by Uli Rahman. The research used qualitative approach through semiotics analysis by Roland Barthes. The analysis utilized denotation and connotation level of signs through various scenes on the film. The data collection technique was done using document analysis.
