It is shown that in high frequency systems the frequency dependence of the transmission line (TL) and other related losses are essential to be considered in the model. In this paper fractional-order domain is used to model the lossy transmission line, which compensates for losses and provides higher flexibility and more reality for the TL analysis and simulation. As for the frequency dependence of the TL skin effect is included in the model, due to its high impact in high frequency applications. Analysis of a TL is processed in the Laplace-domain which effectively simplifies the solution. Though, the difficult or even impossible part is to obtain the required original time-domain from the results by analytic means. In order to overcome this difficulty a numerical inverse Laplace transform (NILT) method is introduced in this paper. The NILT method is implemented successfully, and the voltage/current waveform distributions along the lossy fractional-order TL are simulated and the results are displayed. Exponential dependence of frequency of oscillations on DC control voltage is created in lossless integrators by utilization of two exponentially controlled variable gain amplifiers and diamond transistors. Proposed solution maintains all beneficial features (especially independent levels of output waveforms on tuning process) of the oscillator concept employing two lossless integrators in the single loop and electronically controllable negative resistor serving for adjusting of condition of oscillations. In this paper we analyse the causes that produce side-lobes and propose a technique for their reduction, based on time-domain constraints which, in the case of base-band signals, turn in the definition of a particular low-pass filter. In real world applications, the pulse compression is performed by using bandpass signals as excitation, and among these the chirp signals are largely adopted: the useful bandwidth is thus shifted from the base-band. We consequently modify the filtering procedure defined for processing base-band signals, and propose a reactance transformation of the frequency axis to define the filter for the reduction of side-lobes in the case of band-pass chirp excitations. The paper shows that the application of the proposed filtering technique to chirp signals is particularly simple. The proposed DWT-WHT technique has been applied to frequency domain channel equalizer (FDE) employed in orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) systems. Computer simulations have been performed to verify the performance of the proposed method in stationary and non-stationary frequency selective Rayleigh fading channels. One of the perspective spectrum sharing methods, which is currently under a heavy investigation by academia and industry as well across whole Europe, is called Licensed Shared Access (LSA). This novel technology allows for controlled sharing of spectrum between an original owner (primary user, incumbent) and a licensee (secondary user), such as the mobile network operators (MNOs), which coexist geographically. Despite certain benefits, there are still several issues to be solved before the LSA framework will be implemented in commercial infrastructure. One of them is the need to move secondary users (SUs) from the rented LSA band whenever the incumbent needs it. The potential solution for this problem is represented by spectrum handoff, which aims to help SUs to vacate the occupied licensed spectrum and find suitable network resources to resume the unfinished transmissions somewhere else. Inspired by this, we propose a decision making model considering several SUs attributes (RSSI, RSRP, RSRQ, SINR) in order to efficiently implement the handoff procedure and treat SUs to maximize total service time, spectrum utilization and SUs satisfaction. As an input for our simulation model, we have used the set of measurements performed in real 3GPP LTE-A indoor cellular system located at Brno University of Technology, Czech republic. Although the amino acid chains that constitute proteins are originally symbolic chains they can be converted into numerical sequences and processed as signals. One recent approach represents a protein as a set of images derived from numerical representations of the protein based on the physicochemical properties of amino acids. Then a feature vector is extracted from texture descriptors of the set of images. In this paper we adopt the same approach of representing proteins as sets of images but we propose to generate the images from evolutionary or structural characterization of proteins instead of generating them from physicochemical properties. Several types of these products have been widely used in the last two decades. They play a major role on the low voltage network as they produce and inject undesired noise onto the transmission lines of the PLC channel. This noise can be of a serious and negative effect when using the power line communications system to control the automatic switching of lamps in residential areas and public places. The main colour low energy indoor light sources that exist in the market, such as, LEDs and CFLs have been tested for the noise generation on the PLC channel and the results are analyzed and shown in this study. MFCCs start by dividing the speech into windows and calculating the Fourier Transform (FT) of each window. The frequency resolution obtained using this scheme depends on the time width of the window. A small window would fail to provide a good frequency resolution, while a big window would fail to obtain a good time resolution. This phenomenon is explained by the way the FT defines frequency; it tries to map the signal to a set of predefined bases. In this work, we propose a speech feature extraction method, we will refer to as Mel Hilbert Frequency Cepstral Coefficients (MHFCCs). MHFCCs use the Hilbert-Huang Transform (HHT) instead of the windowing and the FT scheme used in MFCCs. The HHT is an adaptive time-frequency transform suitable for non-linear and non-stationary signals. It generates its bases from the signal itself. This enables it to obtain a high frequency resolution representation of the signal regardless of the duration of the time window used. The vocabulary in each language is projected onto a separate high-dimensional vector space, and these vector spaces are then compared using several different distance measures (i.e., correlation, cosine etc.) to measure their pairwise semantic similarities between these languages. A substantial degree of similarity is observed between the vector spaces learned from corpora of the European languages.
